it was late on a friday night, and i was headed to a friend’s house for a small party she was having. my then-boyfriend was with me, but didn’t really want to be there. i promised we wouldn’t stay too long, just long enough to catch up with our hostess, brooke, as i hadn’t seen her for a few days. when we walked in the door, one guy quickly caught my attention. he was pretty good-lookin’, i thought, and so i pulled brooke aside and asked who this guy was. she told me his name was chris, and that he had been eying me since i had walked in the door. that comment made me giggle like an elementary schoolgirl, and i blushed. when we rejoined the others, i sat with my boyfriend, but kept stealing glances at chris from the corner of my eyes. we left soon after, before i had a chance to actually talk to him. we met a few more times after that, but i, being a quiet person by nature, never really managed to have an in-depth conversation with him. a few months later, in january 2011, i was in the middle of a fight with my boyfriend. i was at brooke’s house, and guess who walks in the room? chris! he saw the frown on my face, and instantly made it his mission to make me smile and laugh that night. i was being stubborn, and made it my own mission to ignore his mission. he tried talking to me, and even told me to slap him to get out my anger. finally, he just stole my shoes and socks and tickled my feet until i had to laugh. i went home that night, knowing i was falling for him. a couple weeks later, my boyfriend and i finally broke up, and i once again wound up at brooke’s. she got me to text chris, and we went on a date the following weekend. we began our relationship on january 17, 2011, and he asked me to marry him on april 24, 2011. some might say we moved a little fast, but when it’s right, it’s just right. he’s my other half, my best friend, and i couldn’t imagine life without him.
