Anything you want captured with quality, photographically speaking, you should have coverage for. Some photographers are willing to do overtime on the spot should the need arise, but you will probably pay more per hour in those moments than if it had been part of the original package.

In my experience, those who try to time it just right and do the bare minimum get unpleasantly surprised when things fall behind schedule and suddenly the to-the-minute scheduling of vendors doesn't work out so well. I recommend giving yourself more time than you think you need. It's better to have it and not need it, than the other way around.

Here are 2 articles I wrote about how much coverage, and how to make the most of your coverage. Hopefully these will help you.

I can say that 99% of my brides opt for 8 hours of coverage. If your ceremony & reception are not in the same place, you will need more coverage (not necessarily more than 8 hours, but you definitely would be hard pressed to get by with less).

We have ours for 4 hours (I might pay the fee and her her there for 5 hours). As it's set-up right now, they will show up at the venue at 4 p.m. We are arriving at the venue at 3 p.m. to start getting ready (which is why I will probably pay the fee for the extra hour). Our ceremony starts at 5 and goes immediately into the reception (since they are at the same location).

ALL day! I wouldn't settle for any less...photography is the most important thing to me, and I splurged on it. All day (appx 9-10 am when we start getting ready until the end of the reception at 10 pm). 2 photographers, no limit on photos...I would hate to have to stress about when they are leaving.

    All day, two photographers.

I asked ours what time she normally comes in the AM, and she said she tries to time it so she's there when I'm getting my hair and makeup done. She said she tries not to take many photos before people have some makeup on, or the girls give her the stink-eye. Smiley smile

Not sure if that helps with the start time or not.

Our ceremony was at 5:30, and the reception went until 11:30. Our photographers came around 3, and were supposed to leave at 10:00 but stayed almost until the end. It was their choice though. I was happy they did because they still captured some fun moments at the end of the evening, including our last dance.

9 hours with 2 photographers. That will cover from me getting ready to almost the end of the reception--will miss the last hour, I think. She will stay if we ask so we'll play that by ear

"Any advice on how to use the time wisely?" it's hard to give wise answer without specific time... 4hours total? 6,7,8 total... is your prep, ceremony, reception all in one location? Smiley smile

We had ours for 8 hours. They left at 10:30 and the reception ended at midnight. I didn't think it would matter since I didn't feel like I needed tons of pics of people dancing, but now I do wish we'd had them there until the end of the night. There were lots of fun moments after they left that I wish we had documented, including our last dance.

We get all day, from getting dressed, until we leave, and with two photographers, a husband and wife team.

All day...for several hours before the wedding (while we get ready) until the end of the wedding. So for about 7 hours.

We have ours for an unlimited amount of hours. 2 Photographers are worth it if your wedding is larger! I'd love to spend the extra $$ on a second but it seemed a little ridiculous with how small our wedding day will be.

"I will be booking two photographers for 9 hours" be sure to ask:

---2 pros photographer with real experience shooting wedding

    ---1 real pro+ 1 shooting assistance (learning)

Most cases you can get a way with: 1 real pro + 1 shooting assistance (learning)

If you wants lots of "guests pictures"... get a photobooth Smiley smile
