We aren't having a "wedding reception"--just lunch after. Also, I don't want any "getting dressed" photos. So, we have her for 4 hours and that's going to be plenty for what we want. However, she is open the rest of the day and will stay if we want her to and we just pay her by the hour then.

A very dear family friend is also going to take about 2 gazillion photos because that's his hobby Smiley smile

Think about what photos you want. We saved money by getting ours for only three hours, for getting ready pictures, pictures of the ceremony, and formals afterward. The reception immediately following was just a luncheon, and we didn't feel the need for professional photos of people eating. I've seen others who have had the photographer for long enough for special reception events (first dance, cake cutting, etc.), but not for the remainder of the reception. Others want unlimited coverage, because they want photos all the way to the end of the reception (and perhaps a send-off).

4 hours, 1 photographer. The lovely ladies on here, plus my photographer, helped me create a schedule for the day so we can get shots of everything.

    4 hours Smiley sad

I am sad about this but it is what it is..

I am going to get as much done right away..& there will be no "Before pictures"

Ceremony, Hour of posed shots of Bride and Groom, BP and family, then reception and the dances and cake cutting, and the Bouquet/Garter toss will be out of the way at the beginning.

I have always imagined having pictures of me getting ready and a picture of our send off. The wedding starts at five and the reception ends midnight. How long did it take everyone to take the "getting ready" shots?

Not a definate...But the one i found will be there during prep and all of our before wedding shots (however long it takes) and then charges more for reception but since we have ours on a thrusday they will only charge $50 an hour during reception. So we might have them stay for 2-4 hours of the reception.

I have mine for 6 hours two hours prior to the start of the ceremony through to the end. Additional time is available at $150 per hr. so going to play that by ear. One photographer which is fine since I'm only having about 50 guests.

Currently I have one photographer for 4 hours for partial getting ready (staged, 20-30m), then ceremony which will be under 30m, plus family portraits then bride/groom portraits. We're doing a luncheon so I don't need professional photos of that.

As a wedding professional, I tell couples to get coverage based on how formal or relaxed their reception is. I've seen informal reception activities finish within the first couple hours, and I've seen more formal receptions go overtime.

Informal receptions usually just have a ton of photos of people dancing. Formal receptions have a lot of toasts, speeches, performances, and full gamut of wedding traditions.
