How far in advance did you book your makeup artist?

Lauren, on May 7, 2013 at 1:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

Hey ladies - how far in advance did you book your make up artist? I STILL have 8 months left but am wondering when I should book one for a trial and all that. Most of my other stuff is booked I just have to book make up artist and hair stylist!

any info would be appreciated - thank you!

I booked a year out, wanted to get it out of the way. I guess it would depend on the area and date.

My wedding is in November and I have a MUA trial on Thursday. Hair trial will be in the next week or two. I want to get it all done sooner rather than later!

The original makeup artist I wanted is booked through 2014 so I used who she referred and booked three months out.

I booked my MUA last March but that was when my wedding date was for August 2012. So technically I would have booked 5 months in advance. Now that my wedding is this August that would mean I booked over a year in advance.

I booked in April for an August wedding, so 4 months out. I did speak to one MUA who wouldn't book more than a year in advance, but I think 8 months out seems reasonable. Like everything else, the best vendors tend to book up quickly.

If you like their work by viewing their portfolio, I would book them right away. Usually you can schedule a hair and makeup trial closer to the date of your wedding. Although you might have something in mind right now, your ultimate style decision/ vision might change by the time of your wedding (mine did!)..especially when you buy accessories such as a veil, jewelry, etc.

I booked mine about 9 months out, because I liked her and she was SUPER affordable, so I wanted to jump on that deal. BUT she's prego now, so I'm back to square one Smiley sad

I contacted her about 10 months out then did my trial this past January then booked her a couple of weeks ago b/c she doesn't book that far in advance. Because we had been in contact so long though she had me in mind and would have called me before booking anything on that date to give me first dibbs.

Do it ASAP if you can! i wanted airbrush, and so that limited who i could use. i had a bit of a tough time finding someone when i started looking 7 months out. I also had a summer wedding so that might have made a difference, but i wish i had started looking sooner. I did end up with someone awesome though!

I was last minute Sally and had zero problems booking a MUA who did airbrushing. I visited a few websites, called the owner of a grouo of MUAs and she sent one out. Easiest part about the wedding lol.

I booked like 1-2 months out.

I did a boudoir photo shoot when I first got engaged so that I could find a makeup artist for the wedding. But I only officially booked get three months before the wedding. We had discussed the date and everything almost a year in advance, though.
