Height difference...

Ali, on November 9, 2012 at 5:02 PM Posted in Planning 1 28

I was wondering if anyone else has an extreme height difference with their fiance. I am 5'5" and he is 7' (a foot and seven inches difference!!). I am honestly a little concerned for THE KISS, first dance, pictures, etc. We of course deal with things like this on a daily basis, but I don't want any of these special moments to look or go awkward. I can picture us just stopping in the middle of our first dance because it is going awkwardly. I feel like I might have to get a little creative on this one and think about these little moments ahead of time.

I have a friend who had the same height difference with her DH. None of the pictures or anything else looked awkward, they all looked really sweet! My guess is, this isn't your first kiss ever, so there shouldn't be any awkwardness behind it!

I personally don't think it's a big deal but what you can do is wear really high heels for ceremony and fisrt dance.

Good point.. maybe I'll just tell him to bend down more than usual so I don't have to stand on my tippy toes in heals.. That probably wouldn't end up too well!

I'll try and find extra tall heals for sure... without looking like a stripper hopefully!

I'm 5'5 and honey is 6'3 so I almost know... I would suggest heels, but I'm just wearing my cowboy boots

I figure we kiss barefoot all the time, he can come down to me and I'll be up on my tippy toes like we always do.

I haven't gotten my shoes yet. I would be comfortable around 4-5 inch heels.

We aren't as extreme as you but I'm 5'3 on a tall day and FH is over 6'. I'm wearing flats as always so like Megan he has to come down to my level and I will tippy toe up to meet him. I love the way pictures of us doing this have turned out. I can understand your concern but I know it all will look super sweet. Plus this gives you an excuse to "practice" kissing and even dancing. Smiley laugh

Jason and Alison C, I say get yourself some nice platform heels around 5" and that should take care of the awkward gap. My gf 4'11 got married to my friend 5'10 and it didn't look too bad.

Not near as extreme as you but with me in heels, we did good. I worried there would be awkwardness too but it worked out fine. I say i am 5'4'' though some say I am 5' 3'' and he's 6' 1'' so he is definitely taller than me. I was at his shoulder even in heels.

Good friends of ours have the same. She's my height but her hubby is 6' 3''

Heels!!! That's the only advice I can give you lol. My FH is about a foot taller than me, so I'm hoping that my heels make a little bit of a difference for the kiss, the dance, and the what not. Good luck!

We are so totally like you! DH is 6'4" and I am 5'3". I didn't feel that our first kiss or first dance was awkward at all. Here are a couple of pics and as you can see we both look pretty comfortable doing it!

So cute!!! Thanks for posting the pictures Linda! I can barely reach his neck/shoulders if that gives you an idea. Heels will have to be my friend... even though I hate them!

Fact of the matter is, your height difference is part of who you are as a couple- it won't look weird because it's who you are! And chances are, you friends and family have seen you together so they wont be shocked Smiley smile But I would grab some hooker heels for those moments- just remember your dress. Buynig 6 inch heels are great and all but not if your dress is hemmed for 2 inch heels for the rest of the night- you dont want to be tripping all over yourself because you wanted to look taller in a couple photos.

I have the opposite problem. Both FH and I are 5"7 and while we were taking the e-pics our photographer was trying to pose us in positions that made him look taller.

I think if you do what you natuarally do, it won't look awkward.
