Drinking on your wedding day

Lara, on April 21, 2015 at 8:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 93

Do any of you ladies have a plan? Married ladies, how much did you drink? Based on a thread yesterday, several married ladies regret not drinking enough...but I'm wondering, where that is? My tolerance is pretty bad lately (4 drinks and I'm feeling like death the next day) so I'm want to have a plan, but still loosen the nerves. Any thoughts?

I want to do a decent amount of drinking but we are planning to leave on our honeymoon the next day, so I don't want a hangover. (flying with a hangover is the worst!)

I'm planning on loading up on water and having 1 mimosa while getting ready and no more than two glasses of champagne throughout the reception. I know I'll need to loosen up but I don't want to be too tipsy and risk not remembering some stuff.

Plus, I don't want to be hungover the next day because we are having a brunch with family and some other guests.

I've been wondering the same thing Lara! I definitely want to drink, but I know:

    1. It's going to be a LONG night and I don't wanna over do it.

    2. We're going to be with our families and although everyone will be partaking for the most part, I don't want things to get crazy, haha.

I've read something about drinking a full glass of water between alcoholic beverages to keep yourself from getting drunk and feeling yucky.

I tend to be a "lightweight" so 2-3 drinks for me all day is enough. I don't want to be slurring lol

My heels are pretty high so I would not be drinking too much. I think 2 glasses of wine or mimosas will do! Don't drink too much water, you don't want to use the bathroom every 5mins with your wedding gown on.

As long as you drink a glass of water after every drink you should be fine. I did not do that, so I drank too much.

FMP, that's ANOTHER thing I'm concerned with. I know I should drink a full glass of water in between drinks, but I don't want to be peeing all night!

Christine, solid point, I don't want to be "the drunk bride"

Christina, I think that's a solid plan, one pre-wedding drink and 2 during the reception. Must sip slowly!

I had a few mimosas getting ready and then i think maybe 2 drinks total at the reception. I was one that regretted my drinking level because I couldn't even hold on to a bottle of water. I had a horrible headache from dehydration. I peed once before the ceremony and once during the reception and that was it. If you're dancing you sweat a lot out and don't pee as much! But at least have some water so you don't end up not feeling well.

Wow some ladies work out before the wedding, but I've been training my tolerance. I've worked it up to one bottle, so 4-5 glasses of wine is my perfect level. This past Saturday I drank two ciders earlier in the day and a bottle of wine at night and I was perfect. If your not trying to lose weight I would practice on weekends before

I'm with E=MC2....it's like exercise, lol.....

Seriously though, know your own 'sweet spot' between anxiety ridden and drunk. And know what you CAN drink; I'm fine with champagne and white wine; one shot of vodka and it gets ugly fast.

I'd pick something that is diluted with juice or soda so you have more volume with less alcohol. And don't forget that nerves and lack of food (both of which can happen on your wedding day) can amplify the effect of alcohol.

then I waited til we cut the cake and that's when I just slowly drank beeer and toward the verrry end is when I started drink jack and coke! lol

definitely don't get too drunk to where you cant speak to everyone and visit the whole night

I'm pacing myself. I can't drink wine after wine for 6 hours straight and not feel it the next day anymore. Plus it makes me SOOOO tired! I'll try to stick to 2 or 3 for the night. Smiley smile

I'm going to have a mimosa with breakfast. A glass of wine or two with dinner. And that's it.

We're having an after party with the wedding party once the guests leave for the night, so I'll have more then. I DO NOT want to be drunk for my wedding.

I drank a glass of champagne beforehand and had about 5 or 6 at the reception of beer and wine (bad idea). The second I sat down to eat, someone had a drink in front of me. I stayed sober enough to remember everything, but I was definitely down for the count about an hour into the after party haha. We danced from about 8:00 until the end (besides a 20 minute break for cake), so it's not like there was a whole lot going on for me to specifically remember. I just wanted to have fun, and I did!

I definitely drank - and got drunk. I had a bottle of champagne in most of my getting ready pics, but my tolerance is pretty high. I had a few glasses of wine during dinner, but after table visits and most of our older guests left I got pretty drunk. I was for sure hungover the next day.

E=mc2, you are so right. i've been trying to up my tolerance, but I remain unsuccessful as I was reminded when I woke up on Monday morning feeling like death warmed over.

Celia, I think you hit the nail on the head, for me at least. Once I mix things, all hell breaks loose. I think I likely need to stick with one drink for the whole day/night...white wine probably, maybe vodka soda. I do want to be at the after-party and remember it, so maybe that's the plan.

I'm planning on sticking to champagne and making sure that I am not mixing and that I am drinking enough water! Also towards the end of the night I will drink more once all the formalities are out of the way. We are paying a lot for the deluxe open bar, I'm 100% taking advantage. We don't leave for our honeymoon until 2 days after so I should be good.
