Do you wear your ring to bed?

Heather, on July 12, 2012 at 9:08 AM

I know it is a weird question but I just got engaged and I am not sure if I should be wearing my ring to bed haha. It is such a high setting that I feel like I might poke FH in the eye! And our puppy sleeps in the bed too, don't wanna hurt him LOL. I know I don't have to, but I was just wondering...

I don't wear mine to bed. I also take it off when I shower/swim, wash dishes, exercise, cook or do something where my hands get dirty. My jeweler and I've read that to keep it from getting worn and messin up the prongs it's best not to leave it on during those times. I have free cleaning and replacements for life but I don't wanna have to use that unless necessary...I'd rather not go days without my ring, ad I'm def OCD about taking care of it lol

I don't wear it in bed because it is a high setting for me and has 5 diamonds on each side and I don't want them to come loose for any reason! I don't wash the dishes or shower in it either but I do wear it when I am swimming.

I only wear mine to bed if I forget to take it off. But most times, I take it off before I go to the gym, when doing dishes/cooking/cleaning, when showering, or going to the pool/beach. I have the setting come loose on other family heirloom rings, and I don't want to chance it!

I wear mine to bed. I was doing disches and showering with it on but was warned not to by the jeweller. **tip to those with a white gold band-having "rhodium plating" done to your ring about once a year will protect it from getting worn and looking not so great anymore. http://www.primestyle.com/news/News/Rhodium_Replacement.html

I'm with Julie. I wear mine constantly and have trouble remembering to take it off if I'm, say, punching down dough or something! I am so not taking that sucker off! haha!

I take mine off basically when I am home. I guess I should say, I only wear it outside of the house with the exception of when I go hiking or to the beach/swimming

I don't wear mine to bed. I have a little jewelry stand that FH bought me that I put it on every night. I don't wear any jewelry to bed for that matter.

I have a pearl so NO. I treat it like a precious little baby lol. It can easiy get discolored or knocked off the setting if its hit too hard. I mean, its securely fashioned, but I dont take chances with it. I dont even pump gas with that hand when I am wearing it. I typically put it on to wear it out during the day and thats it. Smiley smile I was never much of a ring weaerer though. Our wedding rings are going to be pretty small and simple so I will wear that all the time Smiley laugh

I rarely take mine off. Only to clean it, or cook certain foods.

Have a horror story...went to sleep w/my ring on one night and woke and it was GONE !!! After crying, running threw the house and tearing things apart, my FH found it under our pillow...somehow I had taken it off in my sleep **I have no idea, as my ring does not come off my finger easily**. I was horrified that I would never see my ring again !! Moral of the story, put your ring in the box at night Smiley smile

I never wear any jewelry to bed or shower. I also take mine off when cleaning, yard work, etc. The dish soap and other cleaning products can build up and make the diamond look dull.

Yes I wear mine to bed..I've never had a problem scratching or anything, maybe it was a bit odd after we first got engaged, but I've gotten used to it..I love having my ring on while I sleep and snuggle with DS :-) I do take it off though when showering, prepping raw meat, beach/swimming..sometimes dishes unless I forget to take it off.

My background is in fine jewelry, and as sentimental as I am, I'm also well-aware of the horror stories that go along with women who wear their rings 24/7. I've had to calm down many brides-to-be, or newlyweds, or even women married for years because they lost their diamond. Yes, sometimes it truly is just an accident. But it can usually be avoided. I had a newly-engaged woman come in, in tears, because while they were moving, she got her ring caught in a door and it got smashed (NOT covered under warranty, as it wasn't 'normal wear and tear'). It cost her almost $400 to have it repaired. Even sleeping with your ring on can damage it. Those prongs holding your rock in place are strong, but even so...gold is a soft metal, and those little things can get caught and bent (even if you can't see it). The more often you wear it, the more of a beating your ring is taking. Again, it might not be visible, until one day you look down and your diamond is gone. (CONT)

I cannot stress to you enough how important it is to BUY THE WARRANTY AND GET IT CHECKED REGULARLY... You would be shocked at how common it really is to lose a stone. It's heartbreaking, especially when you know it could have been prevented. I used to want to take the girls and shake them when they told me it was just not possible to take precautions with their rings (putting it away while sleeping, in the shower, working out, working with your hands, doing hair)...lol. But I DO understand the attachment to your rings. Just be careful. Get it checked more often if you wear it against jewelers recommendations.

I take my ring off to sleep. When I worked for Zales we would recommend that you don't wear it to sleep. If a side stone would be loose and fall out while tossing and turning you might not be able to find the stone.
