how many carats your ring is? Does it matter the relationship? I find myself a little put off by this but I know I tend to be funny-acting so I'm wondering if I'm in this thing alone. So I got my ring saturday night. But Sunday we were at dinner with some of his family. His one SIL IMMEDIATELY asked how many carats as well as one of his nieces. I mean for real? His niece preceded to analyze it and tell me how much she thought it was. Maybe it's okay b/c they're family? Hell I didn't even ask how many carats it is.

I don't get those questions because my ring features an emerald-cut midnight sapphire instead of a diamond. Probably everyone who looks at it thinks FH is a cheap bast@rd, but I adore it and can't imagine a more perfect ring for me.

Genereally its very rude... though imho it depends on the relationship. I wouldn't show my ring to my family via fb until they saw it in person (I think that would be weird). So my family took to jokingly ask me if I held out for a carat or some # of carats when we talked. then my bff (who is my sisters boyfriend incedintly) asked bc he is trying to buy my sister one after the school year ends and doesn't want for me to have a bigger ring (i didn't mind that too much since my sister is a little vain and would notice if mine was even a 100th of a carat bigger) I really don't know what size it is though ... if someone randomly asked me I would be miffed at them.

@ladylee..I understand your point. You asked for the opnion so I gave it. I guess I just dont let people get under my skin that easy. If its .3 or 3 I'm still rockin it so Im going to reply with a smile. Ive learned that some people just dont know WHAT to say so they smile because they are happy and say the first thing that comes to mind. Size to me personally doesnt matter my answer would have been yes whether it had a stone or had none. Obviously the ring had no bearing on your excitement for the marriage because you have been planning and doing all types of projects for your big day without one, no one in your church even knew and your fiance is the pastor.

@ Bride to Be, I didn't take offense to your statements. I apologize if my response came across that way.

I wouldn't be offended if someone asked me the cart size of my ring..I love my ring, I think it is beautiful and a nice size, but I only love it because the love of my life bought it for me. It has so much more worth than just the carat size, and whether the one asking is shallow or just curious it doesnt really bother me. On the other hand though, I would NEVER ask someone the carat size of their ring. The women I am closest to (cousin, sister, bff) would volunteer the info anyways, but I would never even care to know exactly how many carats someone's ring is. I would be more interested in hearing about the proposal and wedding plans!!! Smiley smile

FH's sister asked and I told her I didn't know...when my mom asked me on the phone what it looked like and how big it was...I described it and then said it's a size 7..she's like no dumba$$, how big is the diamond (well she didn't say those exact words) but I am completely clueless about diamonds..all I know is I love what my diamond represents Smiley smile

My fmil asked me to try on my ring the night he proposed!! I was so shocked I gave it to her and thank you Jesus, it didn't fit over her knuckle. Asking to try on someone's ring is sooooooooooo RUDE! Smiley smile

My sister asked to try mine on as well. It's hard for me to be rude to family, so I let her. But when I got it back I blew through the ring before putting it back on (old superstition).

Honestly I don't care what people ask me. But i'm a very open person so I don't mind sharing stuff like that with others....But hellllll no would I be letting some other woman try on MY ring. I am beyond superstitous(sp) when it comes to stuff like that so that definitely would not be happening.

I do think asking that is rude, not necessarily because I care that people are finding out the weight or price, but because of the responses they give me after I give them the info. Several people have asked me how much my ring is because it is a beautiful nice sized ring, or they will ask me the total carat weight. I have no problem telling them it's a 2 carat ring, or that we bought this ring from a friend that got divorced. After I mention the "we got it for a tenth of the price from a friend who got divorced", people give me the strangest looks and start telling me the ring is cursed/has bad karma/it's bad luck. I'm like "screw you all you friggin' jerks". LOL. I believe it was a blessing for our friend to be so nice to us, and for helping us get a nice ring after having to put off our engagement because of medical debt due to our car accidnet 2 years ago. People always choose to see the bad in things... and refuse to be happy for the wonderful surprises life throws at you Smiley smile
