DIY Advice Needed - Gift Card Box

Rachel W., on October 22, 2011 at 10:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

I'm thinking about making something similar to this. I am not really crafty but can't see paying over $100 for this. Any advice on how to go about it? It's made with fabric. I could do without the stones, but love the flowers.

Any ideas?

I'm planning to do this also. I'm going to buy 2/3 square boxes from a craft shop either in the colour I want, or if I can't find it, cover with wrapping paper or fabric. There are a few instructions on you tube.

I completely understand not paying that much for a box. I fell in love with a box on etsy myself but coudln't justify paying over $90 for it! Instead, I used paper mache boxes from Michael's. I actually spray painted ours but am sure that you could wrap them in fabric. They were very inexpensive ($7.99 for a set of three). I cut the holes, painted them, and glued them all together.

You can get those kinds of flowers on that box from just about any craft store. I think I remember seeing some at Michaels. And you may be able to just spray paint the boxes, unless you want to do fabric.

I actually just finished mine today! Just have to add a crystal brooch on the top.

I know there are a few ladies on here that have made paper flowers that look really similar to the ones in your picture. You could just add the crystals in the middle!

Here's a tutorial for some origami flowers. Don't know if you'd want them to be paper.

They really are fairly simple to make and you don't have to be a craft-type person. The plus is that you can decorate it in your colors with any trim and flowers you like. Good luck!

If you go to your local craft store you should be able to find everything you need. I would stick with either wrapping paper or spary paint and a glue gun. Wait to buy the paper or paint until you have the gems and ribbon so you can make it match. Another idea, is anyone in your wedding party crafty. Call them in for some help.

I know I was called in to assist with candle center pieces for my girlfriend.
