Lets discuss waxing... shall we?

Bikini Wax, The Hollywood Wax, The Brazilian ... has anyone on here ever gotten waxed? Any advice (besides not to do it)? Any recommendations? I figured I'd start experimenting now rather than wait until closer the wedding date!

It's good to exfoliate the area prior to going in....That will remove any dry or dead skin cells. Hair removal will be easier and you might have a better outcome. I've never had a perfect wax and a few pluckings usually have to take place.

Yup had it done before. It was super painful. But afterward, it was fine. It's just at the time that you want to cry and scream. haha

I am considering doing something also, for the honeymoon, etc. But not sure yet exactly what....

For me, I can deal with the pain, I feel self conscious having someone down there examining my situation. - I've always wanted to try though, especially for the wedding. It may be a good surprise for him.

I do it, every 4 weeks. I get a Brazilian, but according to the definitions posted earlier in the thread, I guess it's technically a Hollywood.

Does it hurt? Yes. But is it worth it? Hell yes.

I take 400-800 mg of Motrin before I go, and after a year of going every month, the pain has defintely lessened.

If I can do it, anyone can. Look for a place that uses hard wax, since in my experience it hurts much less.

@ Rachel... lol... and it's not easy to do yourself either! hahaha

@ Kerry- I was told the more you do it the less it will hurt because the roots are smaller. The longer you wait the thicker the root becomes and obviously harder to pull out. I can't wait to go back. and I agree, very worth it!

@ Rebecca Oh that was my fear! It was strange at first, especially since they have to shine a light there but as soon as they start you wont care about them. lol your mind is ummm....pre occupied.

I went once a few years ago. Wasn't completely sold on the brazillian (everything, where I'm at) I think I would leave some if I do it again

I get it done monthly. It's really not as bad as you would think. Although right down the middle for me was the worst. The place I go does sugaring. Their are no strips.

@Sabrina - it's up to you how much they take off.

I get it all taken off, and obviously they do get pretty up close and personal. The middle is by far the most painful, but it only lasts a second. I used to be SO self conscious and worried about what the girl waxing me thought. That went out of the window by the second time though. They look at hooha's all day, so to them, it's just another hooha. No need to stress about it. If you have a good girl, she'll talk to you a bunch and keep your mind off of it. My wax girl (Lynn) and I have become pretty good friends. I just had lunch with her yesterday and she'll be invited to our wedding. LOL Smiley smile

Just out of curiosity what are you ladies paying for the waxing? I've heard about the waxing but wasn't sure on pricing?

    @Stacy - it varies by salon. I pay $39, and tip $10.

Oh my goodness, I love this post! I have been thinking about waxing (shaving is the worst) but am afraid of the pain. Good to know that it gets better. What should I be looking for in a salon? So far it sounds like hard wax/European wax, anything else? Thanks much!

I'm so glad this topic is helping others :o) Now here's a TMI question... How long should you wait after shaving to get waxed? I can only imagine your hair needs to be a certain length so the wax can attach to it.....

@amber: thank for the exfoliation tip!

I had a brazilian last year for Valentines day and was more nervous than need be. It hurts like hell but was over super fast and the results lasted me a long time. I am def going to go again before the wedding. @ jennifer -- I didnt know that there were places that sold year long packages thats awesome! I hate shaving. Ok so youd recommend a couple days before the wedding? Im getting married on a sat and I figured Id go that mon? I think I went like 4 days before but I dont remember. I wish I could afford to go all the time maybe I can find someplace that offers discount packages Smiley smile Is soy really better??

Ok, I think i'm to modest to let someone do a Brazilian, or something along those lines to me.. Its just makes me think about what the tech would say when you walk out that door. I use to work in an OB/GYN office and to be honest some of those women hoo haa's needed a good scrubbing. i'm very hygienic so that is not an issue, but it just makes me wonder what do they talk about when you leave... paranoid I know I will have to find something at home I guess.
