Lets discuss waxing... shall we?

Kimi K, on August 6, 2011 at 9:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 98

Bikini Wax, The Hollywood Wax, The Brazilian ... has anyone on here ever gotten waxed? Any advice (besides not to do it)? Any recommendations?

I figured I'd start experimenting now rather than wait until closer the wedding date!

Laser Hair Removal! Expensive, but worth it in the long run. I've also heard good things about the Tria (???). It's a machine you can do the hair removal at home! It will probably take more treatments- but it will be cheaper in the long run than paying for all of them...

@Sabrina: Brazilian waxes often leave a small strip, triangle or oval shape piece of hair in the front, while taking all the hair in between all the way to the back by your bum. Waxing Hollywood style removes all of the hair, front all the way to the back. (via about.com) I actually found a diagram with different waxes... I'd post it on here but it may get flagged... google images "Different types of Waxing" it's the second picture from the left. it's quite funny!!!

Buttt I would really like to only because we are going to Florida for our honeymoon so that'd be nice not have to worry about that. My friend is an esthetician- and she LOVES doing those LOL ...

Your thread title made me chuckle..but no i"ve never had any waxing done, not even my eyebrows..I'm afraid a whole brow could be swiped off by accident lol..i need to go get them shaped though with a tweezer soon, better than I do on my own.

but ya any other areas yikes!! I'm chicken also. Maybe one day tho!

Ha ha, in my neck of the woods they do Hollywood but call it Brazilian. I think the landing strip is called "French" but that could be wrong :-)

Anyway, I love it, or the results to be precise. There're topical creams that help, but the key is to find someone who is FAST, FAST, FAST!

BTW Kimi, I love the change of topic from the cost of DJ LOL!

So am I the only one who's done it?! I will NEVER, EVER shave again!! I don't get ingrown hairs anymore, none of those stupid red bumps, and I get waxed once a month. If I was really trying to keep things "clean" I'd do it every 3 weeks. The names of things depend on where you go. A Brazilian is everything off the front and back. A modified Brazilian is leaving some hair (strip or triangle). It really doesn't hurt all that bad. In fact, the back hurts less than the front. All I can say is there's nothing like feeling TOTALLY clean, and that's what you get with waxing.

So there's your TMI for today Smiley winking

I think the names could change from place to place... I thought brazilian was EVERYTHING but everything online is telling me otherwise.

If I get it done - I'm getting it all done (go big or go home) I've been wanting to do it for a while now but I keep chicking out. I figured now is the time to do it. I don't want to worry about anything on my honeymoon! ;o)

    Hahaha Sabrina!

I actually found a blog (more like 1 post webpage) and she explained exactly what to expect/what will happen etc. I'm a little 'shy' just openin up my vajayjay to someone with hot wax & paper strips lol I think the hardest part will be finding a very credible spa with amazing reviews!

I was terrified the first time I did it... It hurt like hell, but not for very long. Then, it was over. Most places suggest you take some Advil/Motrin or something beforehand to reduce inflammation. I don't know if it helps- and I doubt it affects the pain- but it's not that bad. It hurts more because you freak out about it...

@Sabrina: that's why I figured i'd start experimenting now ;o) You're not supposed to have sex a few days after getting it done (apparently you're SUPER sore down there and with the friction it can get irritated) and the week after your period is the best time to go (less sensitve) I'll be sure to get it done on a friday so I have all weekend to lay around sitting on ice if need be lol

OK, funny story....I always have a strip left. Well, one day last year, my regular gal forgot and I panicked as she put wax further to the center than usual. I said, "UH! Aren't we leaving a strip?!" And she said, "Oh gosh. Let me see if I can fix that." Well, suffice it to say, I didn't have much of a strip left. After that, I lovingly referred to it as my "Charlie Brown Christmas Tree" and had her take the rest off the following week! HAHA!

There are several types of wax too. The place I go to doesn't use strips. The wax itself dries. I go to European Wax Center and have (had, before I moved away) a yearly wax pass.

And I would recommend 2 or 3 days before the wedding. No more than a week before. The more you wax, the slower your hair grows back, but the first several can still grow back more quickly, depending on how hairy you are, race, etc.

@Kimi, you shouldn't be sore... And as Jennifer B., I'm much happier than with shaving, and actually the area is much less irritated. It's actually less of a big deal than people think :-)
