Lets discuss waxing... shall we?

Bikini Wax, The Hollywood Wax, The Brazilian ... has anyone on here ever gotten waxed? Any advice (besides not to do it)? Any recommendations? I figured I'd start experimenting now rather than wait until closer the wedding date!

@ Kimi, usually they recommend that hair is about 1/4" and NOT longer than 1/2". They can still do it if it's longer, but it gets painful, messy, and all sorts of things you do not want to know :-

Soy wax all the way! Much better. Don't try to do it yourself...ugh...I have heard many, many a disaster story.

I learned this the hard way - avoid alcohol and caffeine for about a day (at least the night before and day of), or it will hurt a LOT more than it needs to. Also avoid the week before your period, when you're much more sensitive.

Hahaha @Nicole: I watched that episode last night as well.

I have naturally blonde hair - so my eyebrows are blonde/very very light brown so I've never had to get my eyebrows waxed. I know a few salons in my area do it - Yelp is a great tool to find out who does an awesome job - who doesn't. I think i'm going to avoid the nail salons that offer it... and go to a spa. Something about getting my vajay waxed at the some of the nail salons in my area makes me cringe....

So glad you asked this Kimi. I desparately want to get it done but am a big coward. I only recently started doing my eyebrows and that doesn't seem so bad but I imagine the lady bits may hurt a lot more. I only have 2 spa appointments left before the wedding though so if I want to do this I better make up my mind soon.

Will need something A LOT stronger than aspirin. Maybe a glass or two of wine to calm the nerves will do the trickSmiley smile

I usually get a bikini wax, and leave just a bit. I have had it all taken off, which is fine also. I do not think it hurts too much. It is much easier than shaving everyday. My hair barely grows back now. Well worth it. But make sure you go to a goo place to get it done. Our local nail salons do it, but it does not seem to sterile or safe. Go to a good place, it is worth the price.

Darn, I get married in 11 days and I didn't think of this. Subtract 4 days before my wedding and that puts me to the day I'm getting my eyebrows waxed and I only have 7 days. I don't think I have enough time Smiley sad I didn't think I would ever be sad that I couldn't get a Brazilian wax.

Brazilian is the way to do. Leaves the ENTIRE area nice clean and hair free. I have been getting brazilians for years and would have it no other way.

No booze!! Ibuprofen (advil) is supposed to be helpful.

Someone mentioned "you'll bleed more" above? You should not be bleeding AT ALL. If you're bleeding, something is very wrong. I know I have to ask for the wax to be cooled for a moment before it's applied b/c I have sensitive skin, but no one should bleed from a wax. That's dangerous in a list of ways.

Waxes down there hurt, but it should be a fleeting pain. It stings for a few seconds and then recedes. Avoiding booze, caffeine, and the wrong time of your cycle, plus taking advil, helps keep that fleeting pain in check.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents! I LOVE BRAZILLIANS! I get one ever 5 weeks. It's $55 here in MN. and I do a brazillian but leave a strip for 2 reasons. 1) I don't like it all being COMPLETElY gone 2) that center area is the MOST sensitive so I'd rather avoid that area. Anyone considering this should totally do it! You won't regret it!

Also you can get as little or as much as you want gone. I do it all! The sides, the "lips" lol, all the way back to the butt. Ha that may be a little TMI but the little amount of pain is so worth the results!!

I had a bikini wax and was bruised in that area for several days. It hurts.

OH no, never waxed down there before, I'm a coward... I'm so glad FH took it upon himself to shave me, he knows he's way around and I don't have to give any instructions, lol... I'm thinking of checking out more info on the laser hair removal though, I think that's something I might consider before the wedding.
