Did you go into debt for your wedding?

Niecy Sparkles, on June 20, 2014 at 9:45 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 91

Omg I worked about 75hrs/week and I nearly killed myself. Me and FH have our wedding paid off in full and I still have plenty of time to spare.

What a relief!!

Did you pay yours off with cash, card, loan?

No debt.. we used cash and wrote checks. We have enough debt already, we didn't think it was smart to pile more on! Congrats on having everything paid off! I know that's a relief

No debt here. Being in debt is not a good way to start out a marriage. Good for you for getting it all paid off before the big day, Niecy! Smiley smile

Paid off with cash. Not all vendors are obviously paid yet because they get paid within 2 weeks of the wedding but the cash is sitting in my account. While we were able to save all the money during our engagement, I also didn't spend any money on ME. That is definitely going to change after the wedding and I will put one whole paycheck to the side to go clothes shopping. lol

We will be paying it off in cash. Saving well ahead of time and sticking to our modest budget. We bought a house last year and don't think debt for one day makes sense. Especially since with a credit card the interest will raise the cost so much in the end

    Thats awesome! Congratulations!

We will not be in debt by the time everything is over. We planned our wedding based on how much cash we can set aside for it in "x" amount of time.

We were both working full time when we got engaged and I had a 2nd job. We were doing great and saved up quite a bit. My dad then gave us $5000 as a wedding gift and FI lost his job. He is a full time college student who is working for his dad (who owns a construction company) trying to make money to pay his bills and help save up for the wedding. I am working 61 hours+ each week between 2 jobs. Neither one of us want any wedding debt but at this point, with him not working steadily, full time, IDK what is going to happen. We started at 699 days and now we are down to 386 and only have $7500 out of $20K saved.... we are not doing so hot Smiley sad

For those of you who already have debt, was hard for you to focus on wedding planning and not paying off your debt? I'm already in debt and dont want to put myself further in debt but struggle with spending so much on a wedding when I could be paying bills off.

No debt but savings will be just about wiped out when all said and done.

I am glad that most everyone is not going into debt for their wedding. i don't know if it is true but I have read that wedding bills after marriage can cause issues and fights with newly weds. They bicker about well you wanted this and you wanted that. So great job ladies.

We didn't think we'd have to, but we bought a house in the middle of the planning process which meant I couldn't save as much as before as I'm spending it on commuting. Our car died two weeks before the wedding payment deadline too so that cost us another small fortune.

We had to put a chunk on credit card.

I'm hoping for some generous gifts otherwise it's going to be a long haul to pay it off!

Good for you! I know it's rough now, but it will soon be over and you rest knowing you didn't go into debt! We somehow paid everything off. But I was VERY mindful of the budget from the very beginning.

No debt - we paid as we went.

I already had debt, but I didn't stress. I continue to pay my bills. I have a clear budget so that I wouldn't get stressed. As long as you don't screw up your credit by using your bill money for your wedding, you'll be fine.

Nope no debt. I was working part time and picking up extra when I could and just went back to full time about 2 months ago. It has helped out a lot. I could pay my bills at 60% of my salary but saving for wedding was hard. Now its a lot easier. I have been bargain hunting like crazy, ordered a ton of ribbon of ebay for as low as $1 for 25 yds!. Comes from China and takes a few weeks to get here but have saved alot doing it. Always looking for sales for linens I needed, and invites etc. I try not to pay full price for anything.

Hopefully no debt for us. I've been working my butt off to make money this summer to meet the budget we set. We're only paying for things we can afford and are paying for them with checks or debit.

In the end I had to take out a $500 loan from my job because I forgot about paying the officiant and we end up having to pay for a DJ at the last minute because his cousin backed out. I was upset about that $500 but that's a small amount compared to some people.

We're paying everything with credit cards, then paying the balance ASAP. However, FH did take out a $2,000 cash advance from a CC with 1% interest, that we will hopefully be able to pay off with the $ made from the wedding.

Nope! We are paying cold hard cash. I don't want to start off our lives together in debt.
