Did you end up with a completely different dress than planned?

Just curious to know your experience? What did you have in mind (silhouette, fabric, neckline, etc.) and what did you end up with and why?

Hi! I knew from the start I wanted something non-traditional, whether that was pattered or a color. I also knew I felt best in A-line dresses (just from
other events I’ve worn gowns for). I love sweetheart necklines but I really thought I would get something with straps. I also didn’t expect the skirt to look anything like this. I thought I would have something tulle with floral appliqué, and while I am absolutely obsessed with that look, I’m very happy with my dress!

Looks beautiful on you. The neckline and beading is so petty.

I first started looking and fell in love with the first dress. I was so dead set on having a blush colored dress. The pictures don't show it well but it was blush in person. I also didn't want sleeves. I really liked the sweetheart neckline.

I ended up getting the second dress in ivory and it has slight off the shoulder sleeves! The style is kind of similar. The second one has a much longer train. I got this one because the second I tried it on, I almost cried. Despite not having color, it had everything else I wanted: sparkle, lace, that princess feel. You could order it in moscato but to me that color looked more tan than blush so I passed.

    Hi!

I just finished dress shopping a few weeks ago. Before shopping I had many pictures saved of what I thought I wanted. I was sure that I didn’t want anything fitted and that I wanted more of a princess style dress. I tried on so many dresses like my pictures but none of them felt right and I couldn’t say yes. I ended up asking the attendant to pull dresses that she thought would fit my body type. The first dress she pulled was a mermaid and very fitted, and that ended up being the one! My advice that I can give through my experience: save pictures of things you like, but if you try them on and they don’t work trust the attendant to help you. It’s their job and they are usually very good at it!
    good luck! Smiley smile

I thought I would do long sleeves, but then I got worried about getting too hot after dancing haha. Also thought it would be fit and flare, but I’m going with an A-line silhouette, which I also liked, but really thought I’d wear a fitted dress!

I honestly didn't know what type of dress i wanted. I know i fell in love with a long sleeve dress. I remember looking at this dress on picture and thinking who would wear that. When i saw it in person, i was like that might be too sexy. The consultant, i guess thought i might like it. She put it on me and i fell in love.

I absolutely wanted a long sleeve styled dress so much, but it was out of my budget. I knew that I needed to keep my options open and fell in love with the first dress I tried on. It was a similar style without the sleeves and I paid almost 4 grand less lol it was awesome!! I didn’t want to get hot and gross from dancing or feel suffocated so I’m glad I went with the dress I got. ❤️

I planned on a tight fitting lace dress but ended up with this a-line dress that I even made bigger with a petticoat! It was perfect for me.

Sooooo gorgeous!!! Love that dress. Not sure how an A line would look on me though. I am open to different silhouettes.

I sort of did! I originally really wanted sleeves, but I tried on a few dresses with sleeves and it was kind of uncomfortable actually? I also was deciding between all lace and only lace on top and found out I wanted the contrast. And I ended up really liking an A line instead of a sheath, and a longer train. I think knowing which dresses I like vs which actually look good on me was something i had to see for myself. Here’s a pic of my dress! I’m so excited!

Was it just more flattering to your shape than a fitted?

Honestly, no. I felt confident in both styles and at least my family said I looked good lol. But the one I chose just made me feel more like a bride.

Definitely bring inspo pics but keep an open mind to other styles! Bridal consultants usually have a good eye for what would look good on you!

I knew I wanted a sheath gown with beading and a detachable ballgown. It took quite a bit of time to find a dress that checked all the boxes for me, and I had to mix and match the elements from a couple of different dresses, but I ended up with exactly what I wanted going in! Definitely don’t be afraid to tell the consultant exactly what you want to find.

I sure did! I went in wanting mermaid style. The dress I got is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE. I thought I wanted lace, didn’t get that either & I LOVE my dress! I have a ball gown with a sweet heart neckline. It’s very simple but elegant. I added a beaded sash & beaded/gem two tier veil for a pop of personality & I adore it. My stylist recommended that I have an open mind, so when my sister picked it out, I went along with it. It was the first dress I tried on & I did try on others to make sure it was the one. Dresses will look different in person vs online. Keep an open mind & you may just be surprised!
