Oh TOTALLY. I was open to different styles and shades of white/pink/champagne and totally thought I was going to go for something like the first photo. Got the dress on (and many other white dresses in varying styles and shades) and felt either too princessey, not myself or just washed out because of my skin tone.
I saw the red gown while trying the dress in the first photo and it totally blew my mind. We're having a holiday wedding, so I went for it! A little nervous about the front showing too much or being a little too much skin, but maybe that's just my anxiety lol.
When I went to try on dresses I had no intention in buying but I was just open to trying anything on in hopes to just have a good time with my friends and see what I would like. Honestly I think they did most of the pulling! My dress is sooooo different than what I expected. I always wanted strapless and simple. This is what I got!

I did, but I wanted to be sure so I tried other dresses on as well. I just knew it because that was the dress I didn’t want to take off
I said I wanted strapless and sleeveless, true white and no lace. I found and fell in love with a cream colored, lace bodice, with lace straps and I’m so glad I was willing to be wrong and try on something else!
I knew I wanted something more fitted and with a sweetheart neckline, no sleeves, and lots of lace, but I tried on multiple styles. I wound up with a dress that was slightly different. It was a fit and flare with eyelash lace, an off white/ivory color, a beautiful train, snap-in off the shoulder sleeves that also tied in the back with a second (faux) train from my sleeves, sweetheart neckline, and all lace...with a bow belt (two bows associated with my dress and I am *not* a bow person).
I had a very humbling experience when dress shopping, ha. I had made an appointment with David's Bridal and a cute little boutique store here in town. I had looked online at DB in advance but only found one dress that really stuck out to me. So I basically told myself that DB was going to suck. I would just go in, try on a dress or two, and then go to the other place.
Well, I got to DB and met our attendant. She was great! She really knew the inventory, she listened to what I wanted, and she was so helpful. I was so happy to have her as our girl that I might even ask for her when we go bridesmaid dress shopping.
Anyway, I tried on the dress I had picked out. I had my MIL and 3 of my 4 bridesmaids with me. There wasn't much of a reaction to the dress, and my MIL said she "didn't love it." Lol. So I trusted their opinions and went down the line to the other dresses. The second dress I tried on ended up being the one I bought. At first I thought, "Meh, it's pretty," but after only a minute or so in front of the mirror, and after the reactions from my group, I was like--yup, this is the one. I loved it more and more by the second.
I tried on a few others but there was only one close contender. Then I went to the boutique shop and was only there for a few minutes. Being that there was just the single owner managing the small shop, and about 5 - 7 other people in there, she wasn't able to give us the attention we got at DB. That aside, I kind of already had my heart set on the 2nd dress from DB. So I went back and bought it that day. I'm still so in love with it.
The moral of the story: Be open to anything! And trust your group to know you better than you know yourself. Ha.
I knew what I wanted from the get go. I went in super open minded so I tried on all sorts of styles.
One thing that I absolutely fell in love with was a modern design, deep cut v, fit and flare/mermaid dress with an added overskirt to make my romantic.
I originally wanted a lace dress with long sleeves and an illusion back. I wanted the silhouette to be A line or mermaid style and instead I ended up with this!
NO! I actually thought I had found the dress the first day! I loved it and it fit everything i wanted in a dress. But when the day came that I had everyone come to have me "say yes" my sister said ,"have some people pick out some dresses to prolong the process". And the second I tried on the dress. I was in love. I even tried it on again at the end. And im still in love with it!
