Did you end up with a completely different dress than planned?

Just curious to know your experience? What did you have in mind (silhouette, fabric, neckline, etc.) and what did you end up with and why?

Sort of... I tried on my grandma's wedding dress when I was in high school and always thought that would be my wedding dress, too, since it looked awesome on me! And I haven't really changed sizes.

Then I saw how stressful it was to plan with my family when my brother got married and realized, I'm going to need to elope if I truly value my sanity and how it impacts my relationship! LOL. My fiance is totally on board with eloping first and having a party later.

But of course if we're not telling my family until after the elopement, I can't really ask for my grandma's dress without lying about "I need it for a show" or something, which seems like bad karma.

So I'm making myself a dress for the elopement and saving my grandma's dress for a renewal of vows/family party later, once things have settled and neither of our families can go TOO crazy over micro-managing every detail or whatever. LOL.

Yep! I went looking initially thinking that I wanted a ballgown style with a big skirt, traditional, lacy, etc. All of those dresses ended up swallowing me. I looked like a cake topper and at least 50lbs heavier than I actually am (this might have been more in my own head as I've gained weight the last couple of years and am more than a little self conscious of my weight/body shape).

I ended up with a body hugging, art deco style, heavily beaded chiffon dress with spaghetti straps that I fell in love with. It flows beautifully and flatters my figure wonderfully. I feel absolutely beautiful in it, though it was difficult to find jewelry to complement the beading and I'm still looking for the right veil (or debating doing without one).

I wanted an Ivory dress with lots of lace an illusion neck line. I wanted an empire waist and a fuller skirt. I ended up falling in love with a totally different dress. I bought a halter top satin off white dress with a very fitted waist and with jeweled pickups. I going to add a navy blue ribbon with a jeweled applique to the dress. I have always been very self conscious because I have very Apple shaped body and I have chest acne, so I wanted to be very covered. Until I put that second dress on and I have never felt to good in my own skin.

The first dress is what I thought i wanted and the second is what I fell in love with.

I wanted a very simple, satin, fitted, backless dress No lace, no beading. And i ended up falling IN LOVE with a very vintage lace dress with a beaded veil

Every dress I picked had lace. I went through hell to get my mermaid lace dress to fit and then trying to find someone to lace it. Yet, I always gasp over simple satin dresses. Even I don't know which one I'm wearing at 5pm tonight. Though I expect to skin everyone and do the satin. Both are ready to go!!!! Lol!!
