I went back into my Pinterest and found the first dress I pinned well over a year ago. Wasn't even looking for a specific brand just the style I loved. The strapless dress is my dress. I guess I stayed very close to what I liked. 🙂

I thought I wanted an A-line dress with an illusion neck line. I ended up hating all of the ones I tried on. My dress ended up being an all lace fit and flare with lace straps. Keep an open mind when you try things on and be willing to try on something you never in a million years thought you might like, you might be surprised!

Before I even got engaged I was dead set against a white/ ivory/ blush dress, or anything traditional-looking. I hunted for over 6 months for a black Lace wedding dress; even driving to other states. Eventually I gave up on finding one in-store and contacted Anamolie to have one made. And wouldn’t ya know it.... after designing the “black dress of my dreams”... I found “the one” at a bridal store. And it is NOTHING like the one I had spent all that time looking for LOL Now I understand when girls say to have an open mind and try on different styles!
I do like the sweetheart strapless dresses but I don't want to wear it just because my wedding will be late October lol. I associate it more with summer and spring!
Growing up, I always saw myself in a ballgown (I always wanted to look like a princess), but about 2 years ago, I started thinking I'd want a mermaid instead. I went into my first appointment and tried on about 10 mermaids and LOVED them. I tried one ballgown on and hated it! I ended up getting a mermaid with a full beaded and lace bodice with a ruffled skirt. I always knew I wanted a big bottom and a sweetheart neckline, and that's what I got!
I went in wanting a long sleeved a line dress with lace on the top and a super cool neckline. My dress is sheath (I think that’s what it’s called?) and only had capped sleeves. The neckline is very pretty and the top is lace-ish so I did stick with that. I also added a tiny bow to the front, because I did love that on a lot of dresses I saw. I’m still a little sad about the long sleeves tho lol. I am wearing a shear cape with lace on it also so it kind of takes the place of the sleeves. I picked it because it so matched my vision. The second I put it on I felt royal, as cheesy as that sounds, even tho it doesn’t look like a “princess” dress like you typically see!
I am sure the dress you pick will be so gorgeous!! Just a tip, keep an open mind. I told the owner of the boutique I was at to just pick a dress that she thought would look best on me. I didn’t buy the dress she chose, but it was in my top 3 and just so gorgeous. I definitely wouldn’t have picked it for myself and skipped over it the first two times I saw it.
I thought I wanted something slinky and sexy, since this is my second wedding and for my first I did the ballgown/cupcake dress thing. But once I started trying them on I noticed I was looking my stomach in every dress! I’m pretty slim but have had 2 kids and just never recovered the super smooth tummy. I kept tugging at the dresses and just didn’t feel beautiful. So...I’m back in a ball gown. Lol. I wanted something different, and I guess it is different in that it is so simple. I wouldn’t say it is sexy, but I feel more sexy in it than I did the others.
I wouldn't say I did a 180 by any means. I wanted a crepe, fit and flare gown originally. My vision was the completely plain dress. Pictured below:
Once I started trying them on and realized crepe shows every. single. line. I changed my mind on how plain I wanted it. If you want to be put in your place on negative body image, try one of these things on! lol You could see my "no show" underwear line because the fabric is so clingy. I'm 5'5" and 124 pounds so I know I don't have much of a pooch but boy did I feel like I did! I ended up choosing a crepe dress with a little more detail. It had some lace on the stomach area which hides my "pooch". I'm obsessed with my train! As soon as I put it on I knew it was MY dress
I did. I just knew I was going to have a form fitting mermaid that would hug every curve. What I got... a ballgown. I never expected that I would consider this type of gown, but I love it. The mermaid wasn't flattering at all.
Your ball gown is stunning on you, Carlette! It's funny how you can have a vision in your head, and that can go right out the window once you actually start trying on dresses
I feel like this is such a perfect blend of a ball gown and slinky/sexy! You've got the nice fitted top with the straps, and the skirt doesn't poof out massively! It's gorgeous
I wouldn't say it's far off from what I wanted but definitely different! I imaged something with 3/4" sleeves and tulle in the front (I get the starting of hives when I'm nervous so my chest gets red lol).
Instead I ended up with this beauty! Not far off from what I envisioned but definitely not what I expected!
I definitely did! I went in thinking I wanted a gigantic ballgown. When I tried them on, I felt pretty, but none of them felt like "the one". At my next appointment I stuck to more simple dresses and ended up going with a simple a-line illusion neckline dress. I absolutely love it!
My original dream dress was an a-line, off the shoulder white dress. I wanted a dramatic train. But I ended up with an a-line, v neck dress with a beautiful dramatic train that is trimmed with flowers! I am hoping to alternate the straps to be off the shoulder but I don’t know if it’s doable!
