Days Off

My friend thinks it's normal to take the week of your wedding off from work. But we are leaving for our honeymoon right after, so I am concerned about taking too much time off. Do you feel like it was really helpful/important to take several days off before your wedding? How many? I don't want to...

Do you feel like it was really helpful/important to take several days off before your wedding? How many? I don't want to ask for too much, and I am also not sure why it's necessary to take a whole week off.

Right now I plan on taking a day and a half off before the wedding and then 3 days off after for our mini-moon. It'd be nice to take more off but neither of us gets paid time off right now so can't really afford to obliterate a paycheck too much. As it is even with just 4 days out of the office there's so much stuff I'm going to have to schedule beforehand that it's already stressing me out a little. Smiley xd

Am a CNA and work 3 12 hour shifts a week. We get married on a Sunday, so I will work Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday prior to our wedding. Then I will be off of work starting Thursday until after our honeymoon ( which is 7 days following our wedding).

My work has a very flexible time off schedule (I'm a political fundraiser so I can always work remotely) but our wedding is on Saturday & so to prep for the wedding i'm only taking Thursday & Friday off. It think that'll allow for ample prep time for last minute to-do's. Plus we're having it at a private residence so I have to set everything up as well. Fingers crossed!

As for our honeymoon, that's where we went big. We saved up for vacation and will be travelling for two weeks in Europe. Go big or go home, right?!

I’m taking the week off before the wedding and then the week after for our honeymoon. I’m lucky enough to be able to do that since I’m planning on being far too stressed out the week of! Also, my fiancé is taking off Thursday and Friday before our wedding.

We are taking off the day before the wedding and then are taking a week off for our honeymoon the day after our wedding. Going on a cruise to the Caribbean! So excited!

I'll be taking off 18 days. I'm taking 8 days off before the wedding to allow me to do all last minute things without having to worry about work and 10 days after to enjoy us!

I am taking off two weeks for our wedding and honeymoon. I will have the two days before the wedding off for decorating and any last minute issues. Plus it will eliminate alot of stress. We will be back from our honeymoon three days prior to going back to work so that we dont have to rush back into life right away and can enjoy some time together in our home before heading back to work. This will give us time to get settled back in, and prepare thank you cards.

I don't think there are any rules to how much time you want. I'll be taking off 18 days. I'm taking 8 days off before the wedding to allow myself to do all last minute things without having to worry about work and 10 days after to enjoy us!

I'm unemployed right now, but if I was working, I'd probably ask for at least two days to a week off before the wedding. I have an anxiety disorder, so taking the time off beforehand would help. I find it difficult to multitask, so if I were to be employed, I would not want to find out what the added stress of both work and a wedding would feel like.

I have off starting Tuesday before my Sunday Sunny September wedding day off until the Tuesday after the wedding but I might end of taking 2 more days which would give me almost 3 weeks off (2 weeks of pay). We have not completely figured out if we are doing a bigish honeymoon or just doing an "us" thing doing what we like. I need the time before off to finish up all DIY projects, hair/nails for all the girls, hair/beards for all the guys, rehearsal & prewedding paying last deposits. I don't want to stress out before the wedding either. I need me time. FH will be off like 1-2 days off before or more if I tell him I need it(self employed business). I am glad I requested the time off already as I have been unable to work on them since a few family members have been admitted into the hospital this last month & have a long way to go yet. I hope all settles down soon.

If you aren't comfortable taking that extra time... give yourself a to do / organize list that ca be done on the weekends leading up to the wedding. 2 or 3 things per weekend so as not to overwhelm you. Then the couple weeks before the wedding ask for help from some friends and family to get the rest wrapped up.

I am taking the day prior off so that I can focus on making sure everything is set and ready to go... so i am not rushing to get to the rehearsal dinner... and so i can get my nails and pampering done.... annnnnd to take things at a more casual pace, so that I'm not rushing into wedding day in usual work mode (my job is high energy).

We are leaving the day after the wedding for a week long honeymoon and i too dont want to take too many says off. Hope this helps as a suggestion

I think it really depends on your situation if you are planning to DIY everything! Then you should take the week off to make sure all your projects are completed but if you have a venue who comes with a coordinator and everything else included you shouldn’t have to take any time off.

I don't think its normal to take a entire week off. But depending on the day of your wedding a day or two before seems reasonable. My wedding is on a Monday so I think I will just work the week before entirely and of course the weekend will be the time to do last min things. And then i have the entire week after off for our honeymoon. Just see what you need to complete a few weeks before and decide by then. I think you will be safe with a day or so however.

I'm taking off the week before and the week after. My nephew is getting married the Sunday evening before my Saturday wedding. We'll be out of town for that, returning on Monday. Will take the rest of the week to finish errands, getting moved into our house, mani/pesi, etc. Friday, we have the clubhouse to decorate early. No rehearsal needed but my have a dinner for my helpers. Leaving for honeymoon on Sunday after our Saturday wedding and returning on Thursday. Using those last few days to settle in and enjoyed being "home" with new hubby.

In a perfect world, I wanted to take the week before off but like most people I didn’t have the PTO. I ended up taking the day before and a half day two days before. I was still finishing seating chart escort cards and stuff then but I also wanted to relax!

I plan on taking the Thursday and Friday off before my Saturday wedding. I'll be having the rehearsal dinner on that Friday and I just wanna be prepared for everything. I'm also a mail carrier so my hours arent consistent. especially during the holidays where my wedding is Christmas weekend. I've worked from 6am-9pm during December so I dont want the stress of not being able to get my nails and everything done on time for the rehearsal or anything else I may need to get done.

My wedding is on a Saturday, I'm take the Thursday and Friday before off. Then we leave for our honeymoon that Sunday (day after the wedding) and I'm taking that entire week off. All my friends I have talked too, said 2 days is plenty of time. But when it gets closer, we will see how much we have to do, and I might take Wednesday off as well.
