Days Off

My friend thinks it's normal to take the week of your wedding off from work. But we are leaving for our honeymoon right after, so I am concerned about taking too much time off. Do you feel like it was really helpful/important to take several days off before your wedding? How many? I don't want to...

Do you feel like it was really helpful/important to take several days off before your wedding? How many? I don't want to ask for too much, and I am also not sure why it's necessary to take a whole week off.

I think it depends what works best for you guys! My work gives us 3 weeks of vacation time, but we have to use 2 consecutively (🙄 normally, but it’s been helpful for the wedding). I was going to take the entire week before and after off, but realized my FH and I only really need a few days to get stuff done beforehand. As of right now I’m off the Wednesday before our Saturday wedding, the entire week after the wedding, and until Wednesday of the following week. That way I’ll be able to go to the DMV and take care of name change stuff.

I guess it maybe depends on the job you have and how much you have left to accomplish the week before. I am a teacher and we are getting married in September which means school will be in. My administration is allowing me to take off 1/2 day Thursday, all of Friday and then the week after for the honeymoon. I really would not feel comfortable asking them for more time because that is already pretty generous of my work place.

The only way I'd be able to take more time off is if I got a new job with fresh pto/vacation. I am only taking the day before the wedding because that's all I have allotted. If I didn't have a 2 week family Italy vacation I would've had more PTO. FH is taking two days off before the wedding because he works night shift and he wants to get back into a daytime sleep schedule before the wedding.

We are not leaving for our honeymoon for a month after the wedding but I am only taking the Thursday and Friday before off. We have some of the bridal party flying in on Thursday and I wanted a day to get any last minute things done. Friday I will likely be down at the venue setting up most of the day and the rehearsal is at 4. The venue is almost 2 hours from our house so taking Friday at a minimum was a must.

I am also taking the following Monday off just to unwind from everything and soak up being married with a quiet day at home just the 2 of us and our dogs.

If I could take a whole week off before I would, but since I started a new job, I am only able to take Friday off, then back to work on Monday. Sucks but my honeymoon is 2 weeks later, so I just need to hang on for that. For my first wedding I took off Thursday and Friday before a Sunday wedding and I had plenty of time to finish everything I needed to do.

We are getting married on a Sunday so I am personally not taking any time off before since I will still have Friday after work and all day Saturday to do any last minute things. I'm super organized and we have been planning for 18 months so I don't see us needing a ton of time before to do things as most things have been done already, even little details.

We have a Friday wedding and I will most likely take off Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. We will use these days to get last minute things done like packing overnight bags, bringing stuff to the venue, manicures for the girls, and the rehearsal. We are not going on our honeymoon right away but I will probably take the following Monday and Tuesday as well to wind down and possibly do a mini-moon somewhere

I will be taking one day off (Thursday) before my Saturday wedding as I don't work on Friday's. Our venue lets us use the space from Thursday-Saturday so we'll start setting up on Thursday. I'll be taking Monday-Monday off after the wedding for our honeymoon.

I would love to be able to do that but then we wouldn’t have been able to take as long of a honeymoon! We lucked out in getting married the weekend after Memorial Day so we actually will have off on Monday the week before the wedding. We are also taking off Friday to spend time with out of town family. But we will be at work Tuesday through Thursday unfortunately, lol

We got married on a Friday. I took the Wednesday and Thursday off - Wednesday for last minute errands and picking up people at the airport, Thursday for rehearsals - and that was plenty. My parents are also retired and helped a lot with last minute running around. We didn't take a honeymoon right after (waiting until the first anniversary or sometime near that) so I was back to work the Tuesday after the wedding. So in total I had 6 days off including a standard weekend. I had also only been at my current job a few months, so I didn't want to take too much time off so early.

Right now I am planning on taking Thursday, Friday and the Monday after the wedding off. It will depend on when people start to fly in for the wedding, but my job/boss is flexible if I need more time off I just would have to ask. Plus I really never take any days off as it is lol.

I was planning on taking a half day Thursday and all of Friday off before the wedding. We're leaving the Tuesday after for our honeymoon and will be gone for 10 days so I don't want to overdo it. I'm pretty organized so I think I'll be fine. The only reason I'm taking a half day on Thursday is because my MOH is flying into town that day and I want to pick her up from the airport!

I took Wednesday-Friday off the week of my Saturday wedding and then was gone the whole next week for our honeymoon. For me it was totally perfect, definitely had some errands to run the week of the wedding but it was also nice to not come back from the honeymoon to two whole weeks of emails. I couldn't have imagined working all week with what we had to get done

I am also going on my honeymoon right after the wedding. Therefore, I am only taking the Thursday and Friday off before my wedding.

For my Saturday wedding, I had planned to take Thurs and Friday off. My MOH flew in Thurs to help with things.
I did end up working Thursday morning and leaving in just enough time to get my MOH from the airport.
I only had enough PTO for a week off and honeymoon was right after the wedding. There’s also nobody who can do my job, so I had to prep things ahead of time with specific instructions for another person to do on just the crucial tasks. The rest sat there until I returned.

A week off before would have been nice but the day and a half was enough to get everything done we needed. It was really busy though!

Good luck with your special day!

I'm getting married on a Saturday and I'm taking off the thursday and friday before for last minute things and pampering. Just so I don't feel rushed and stressed. Then we are off the whole week after the wedding too for our mini-moon.

I totally understand your concern. We were only able to take the day of the rehearsal dinner off of work because we will be gone on our honeymoon this coming Saturday for a whole week off of work (we waited 3 weeks to take our honeymoon). It will depend on each person and their job situation. I do not think its normal to take that much time off of work though and I find it difficult to believe that most jobs will give a lot of people that much time off PLUS a week long honeymoon!

I’m most likely taking the week, or at least 3-4 days before. My wedding is in a different state so I’m going to want to prepare as much as I can before hand
