Days Off

My friend thinks it's normal to take the week of your wedding off from work. But we are leaving for our honeymoon right after, so I am concerned about taking too much time off. Do you feel like it was really helpful/important to take several days off before your wedding? How many? I don't want to...

Do you feel like it was really helpful/important to take several days off before your wedding? How many? I don't want to ask for too much, and I am also not sure why it's necessary to take a whole week off.

I don't work full time, but I am a dance teacher and I will be taking off the Wednesday before my Thursday wedding, and possibly the Tuesday as well. I will have family in town that I'll want to visit and I will be doing last minute wedding prep such as nails and anything else that comes up. I don't think it's necessary to take off the whole week, but it also depends on your job, stress level, and what you still need to do for the wedding. I think this is one of those areas that differs for each bride.

I'd say at least 2 days before so you can relax, take care of last minute hiccups, make sure everything is set and ready but mainly RELAX haha, stress up until the day you start taking off from work

I’m taking Wednesday-Friday the week of, and the week after for our honeymoon. I don’t get PTO at my job and have flexibility. Unfortunately, I lose pay for while I’m gone.

I will only be off work the Friday, for rehearsals, and the day of my wedding and then off for my honeymoon. I don’t have enough PTO to cover all of the days.

I’m a workaholic, I’m only take the Thursday and Friday before. My honeymoon I planned for a 3 day weekend except I took and extra day. We are doing our honeymoon 2 weeks after. I work 7 days a week by choice so I guess I’m going to try to do as much as I can before the big day.

That's really up to you! There's no rule saying how many days you should take off. If you want to work the day of your wedding, that's your choice.

Were taking three days off before the wedding to travel everything up to the venue/setup/ and finish anything we need before hand. We have two weeks after the wedding before the honeymoon, but we will be taking two weeks for the honeymoon. 10 day honeymoon, 2 days travel, and a day before we leave and a day when we get back.

I am taking off the wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before. I have family flying in so I plan to spend Wednesday with them. Thursday we are getting nails and stuff done as well as baking cookies all day for our cookie bar. Friday is rehearsal and setup. We are then going on a honeymoon Sunday-the following Monday.

I am getting married on September 14th of this year and have decided to take three says off before the wedding and then a week off after the wedding. Really what it all comes down to is how much planning you do beforehand. If you finish all the “last-minute” details two or even three weeks before the actual wedding then the week of you won’t have much to worry about and you can afford to stay at work those last couple days.

I'm taking the day before off for my wedding. So betwen the wedding and honeymoon I'm taking about a week and a half off. I think taking a day or two off before is good but i dont think a week is needed but everyone is different.

I'm taking the week before off, but my wedding is out of town and we're not going on a honeymoon.

I'm working the week of my wedding, Monday-Friday a full 40hr week. This is so I can collect a full paycheck while away on my honeymoon. I took a week off for my honeymoon itself and am using my paid leave to keep ontop of Bills.

I’m taking a day and a half. Most girls take just a day or two before the wedding.

I am taking 3 days off beforehand and the whole week after. My fiance is a teacher and our wedding is in the summer so he doesn't have to take any time off (lucky guy, lol). My sister is coming in from Hawaii and she's making our cupcakes so I want the time to help her out and get the stuff for them and all that plus to do any last minute stuff. We aren't taking a full honeymoon but plan to take a few days at the end of the week after so I just took the whole week off.

Like others have said, it's a personal preference thing. In my opinion though you may want some time before and after to relax since the whole wedding process can be so stressful.

I'm taking off the day before (Friday). The week after the wedding we already would have Monday off, so I'll be taking Tues-Fri the following week for a total of 5 days. We will honeymoon for a week. I too am reluctant to take the full two weeks (we only get 2 weeks a year of vacation) all at once. Can you take half days or a few hours?

I have been thinking about this as well! I work a normal 8-5 job monday thru friday. Because we are not leaving for our honeymoon right away I choose to take Friday off and thats it. We get married on Saturday big family brunch on Sunday and return to work on Monday. I also took the following friday off because thats when we leave for our honey moon!

I feel the same. We are taking the Thursday and Friday off the week of our wedding (our wedding is on Saturday) and leaving Sunday for a week. We'll just have to make sure the smaller stuff is already taken care of so we can focus on the bigger stuff those two days.
