Days Off

My friend thinks it's normal to take the week of your wedding off from work. But we are leaving for our honeymoon right after, so I am concerned about taking too much time off. Do you feel like it was really helpful/important to take several days off before your wedding? How many? I don't want to...

Do you feel like it was really helpful/important to take several days off before your wedding? How many? I don't want to ask for too much, and I am also not sure why it's necessary to take a whole week off.

I'm planning on taking the week before off- mostly to spend time with my out of town family and to get last minute stuff taken care of, if there is anything. I don't really have much to do that's DIY since my venue takes care of the flowers and décor, but I know i'll be plenty busy spending time with my out of town family who arrives early (at the very least my mom and brother, as well as my dad and my sister. Or at least my sister. I'm basically kidnapping her for the time she's here!). I know if I were to work the week before while everyone's here, I'd be way too tempted to leave early or call out anyways.

I’m not doing that. I don’t like leaving my workload on others which happens with my type of jobs. I’ll be taking my wedding day off and that’s it. We’ll be taking our honeymoon several months later.

I'm taking the day before the wedding, the day of, and the day after. Then working for 5 days and then leaving for our honeymoon for a week

We are taking the Thursday and Friday before and the Monday after. We will be taking a honeymoon the following year. We want to use the money from the wedding to plan for our escape somewhere warm in February or March.

I am only taking the Friday before the wedding off since we will be out the whole week after and will not return until that following Monday (10 days total including weekends). I work a regular 8-5 job so I am planning on getting my hair and nails done after work during the week as well as any last minute details.

Well, my wedding is on a Friday, so I will be taking that Thursday off to spend the day with my Brides Maids and Maid of Honor to pass out their gifts and have a day of pampering. Of course i will be taking Friday off, and we have the entire weekend... We have not decided on how long of a honeymoon we will have and what days w plan on taking it.

Normal is a "relative term"... meaning it depends on who you are. Just consider this: do YOU and your FH find it to be a good decision for everything that you guys are planning? If it's not a must to be at work, then don't beat yourself up. But if you know the extra days off is pushing it, then why even risk it? The best part: you still get your beautiful wedding, honeymoon, and time with your love (oh, and the peace at mind away from the time clock). The only difference is a few days at/ away from work. Make the decision knowing it benefits you, and does not worry you or your dear love. Smiley heart

I work a Tues-Saturday shift normally and my plan was to take 3 whole weeks off for planning my wedding AND going on a 2-week honeymoon right after. I get 140 hours of paid leave, so I've been saving my hours all year and taking minimal time off until then. I still need to book my honeymoon though, so things will be a little more set in stone once I have the plane tickets.

My wedding is this Sunday 5/26 & I only took off tomorrow (Friday). I didn't think it was necessary to request off more days.

My fiancee took 3 days off while I'm only taking 2 (we have different work schedules). We are planning our honeymoon for a later time. Driving down to Vegas Thursday and doing last minute things that day and Friday. Wedding on Saturday. Relax Sunday and drive back Monday. Back to the grind Tuesday.

I’m taking two weeks off for the wedding! Although I’m a nurse, I work four days a week 10 hour shifts. Instead of scrambling that week, I’m scheduling time to relax and finish up odds and ends!

I don't have a lot of help, no vendors I'm working with so I'm taking off 2 days before the wedding and then we're just taking a short road trip/honeymoon. So just 1 solid week and then back to work

I’m getting married 11/30 right after Thanksgiving so I will already have off that Thursday and Friday off for the holiday. I don’t have other vacation days except for what I’m using for the week after for our honeymoon.

My fiancé and I are getting married on a Friday in October. I will take Wednesday off for any tidying up. Thursday will be off to travel and setup. Since we got engaged 10 months ago, I have been saving my PTO (I am completely ready for a vacation), and I am so looking forward to a 15 day honeymoon to Thailand! We have been together for 13 years and love to travel and this is one that we have been saving for.

I’m taking about two weeks off work I work for a grocery store, October 10th-23rd I’m taking three days off before the wedding day due to church rehearsal and dinner rehearsal and taking stuff to the venue. Also it’s my birthday a day before the wedding and everything is going to be just the last finalizing everything and then the wedding day. Then come back from after my wedding celebration back home from the venue and then take off from our honeymoon on Monday on a cruise for 5 days that’s a well deserved wedding weekend/birthday and honeymoon break two weeks is just enough, especially since we both work for the same company 😊

I'm taking a week off (actually 9 days in total) but that's mostly because I moved out of the country last year and I never see my friends or family very often now. I wanted to make sure I'd have as much time as possible with all of them since it probably won't be another 6 months before I see them again (I moved from LA to Sweden and our wedding is here in Sweden). We're not going on our honeymoon until September (our wedding is in 3 weeks), so I'll have a few good solid 2-3 months of work and school before we take time off again.

I'm taking the day before my wedding off. But I'm going on my honeymoon that night. So I don't think you need all them days off

I will be taking off the Thursday and Friday before the wedding to drive back home, set up, get my nails done, and any last minute things I may have forgotten between now and then.

I haven’t decided how much time I’m taking off before as it largely depends on what we finally decide to do for our honeymoon. I will pretty much have to take time off though as Between work and commute my days can be 12-13 hours or longer, if traffic gets bad enough. I get home so late I don’t have time or energy to do anything but eat a light meal and drool on myself.

Plus our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner will be on a Friday and there’s. I realistic way for me to either a) work a full day and go straight there or b) work a full day, go home, and then go to the venue. So that Friday I simply can’t go in and I may try for Thursday, too, but if I can’t get Thursday I can’t have a bachelorette party at all. Most of my friends are out of town and I am 100% opposed to asking them to travel twice for me. I’m not worth that headache and stress.
