Can you find a good deal on a cake stand?

Lauren, on April 10, 2012 at 5:12 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 18

Are you paying the ridiculous deposit/rental fee for your bakers cake stand??

Or have you found one yourself?

it was a 40 dollar rental fee and a 100 dollar deposit (wtf??) to rent one from our baker.

Do you need a cake stand?

I would love to have one, preferably in white..(shabby chic theme)

and i need one that is 14 " or more wide.

anyways if you found one send a pic and price or any advise on where to find one for a good deal.

Honestly my mom always wrapped a piece of heavy wood board in silver aluminum foil... I'm gonna jazz it up a bit more but do essentially the same thing.. a DIY cake stand if you will =). I really wanted a silver cake stand, but the price point is too high and I'm not sure I can get one big enough for the base layer of my cake anyway.

You could always buy one of the cheapy ones from the craft store and paint it whatever color you want, it's probably what I'm gonna end up doing because I don't want a silver one but I don't want it to be clear either

The deposit is because a lot of those things go missing.......

how about glass bricks? You could even light them from the inside with tiny white lights.....

One of my couples used a cement birdbath as a table/stand. It was adorable.

If you have a Home Goods or TJ Maxx around, check them out. I found mine there. I paid $30 for it. I spray painted it to gold to match my theme. It had an 18" base to accomodate my biker cake topper.

Have you checked out efavormart.com? I found my daughter's 22" cake pedestal there. She plans on reselling it.

I am doing a dessert buffet with 5 or 6 smaller cakes, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, etc.. I have some friends and family that frequent garage sales that are on the lookout. It will result in mis-match cake stands and platters, but it will be okay. After the wedding, they will probably end up back on the garage sale circuit.

Lauren, even if you find one that is not white, you can always spray paint it for cheap! i would go to DI (the thrift store on auburn) they always have awesome stuff, hobby lobby (kell and i can take you, its down the street from my house) always has sales and i think they have a lot of white ones too.

I bought a big round gladd plate and a nice glass candleholder from a thrift store, spray painted them white, then used gorilla glue to make my own DIY stand. You can find a lot of possibilities if you go to thrift stores or TJ Maxx

I found these, they are DIY, really simple to make

I will be having the 2nd one, My FH is Framing the stand with 2x4's with a couple braces in the middle for strength, then putting a mirror on the top, with the diamond mesh on the sides

Just bought a large glass one at Hobby Lobby for 50% off (paid about $8 for it). It's plenty large and you could dress it up or spray paint it to get the look you want.

My friends and I actually purchased our wedding cake stands from a woman who makes beautiful cake stands with removable cake skirts. Seems that most bakers only provide those boring looking plain cake rounds to display your cake...why spend so much money on a gorgeous cake to just put it on a dull piece of cardboard? You can buy the stand kit I think it's called and it comes with a stand, a cake skirt and matching flower and ribbon for only $65!!! She has a good selection of fabric skirts and crystal ones too. The best thing about this cake stand is you can change the skirt over and over to match every event! This is the stand I purchased. Check her out on cakedress.com!
