Are you having a cake stand?

Nicole, on March 11, 2013 at 2:27 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

I just saw a bunch of cake photos that did not have the cake on a cake stand. I assumed you had to have one. My cake vendor is a new business and does not have a stand. I could rent one but all the rentals I saw are silver and would clash with my gold accent color. I decided to make a wooden one and cover it in fabric until I saw the one below! Are you renting a cake stand? Making your own? Pics please :-)

We bought supplies for our own at one of my Favorite stores: Goodwill! It was quite serendipitous that the candlestick when turned upside down fits perfectly into the grooves of the plate. So far, this is $8. We plan on buying one more glass plate for the base so that the candlestick isn't the only thing supporting the plate.

I don't think you have to have a cake stand. My venue has a cake stand I can use that totally matched my colors. The one in the picture is cute though! Maybe head to an antique store or thrift store and find something that could be re-purposed?

We're renting a silver cake stand for like $15. Our accent color is also gold/champagne but you can mix metallics (or so the fashion world says!) I'm not going to sweat it.

    @Jennifer that looks great!

@KristnB after I saw the pic I immediately thought of a mirror I bought at Ikea years ago and have never hung but with the right base it might be perfect!

@RayRay, you're right, I mix metallics in my fashion sometimes, not sure why I was stressing it!

We bought a save-on-crafts cupcake tree stand for $35 (http://www.save-on-crafts.com/cupcaketree1.html) We are going to cover ours with fabric and ribbon and then sell it after we are done with it.

My cake gal brought in a vase, filled it with some strawberries and put a plate on top of the vase for the cake. We had a small cake, with cupcakes, so it didn't need to support a lot of weight.

You definitely don't need a "real" stand, as those can get expensive. There are lots of options to DIY one, or rent one.

I wasn't going to have one...then I found a cute wire one at factory craft supply online today while I was shopping for other stuff and bought it on sale. It is white but I plan on painting it black and weaving ribbon and tulle in some places around the wire. For 12$ I figured why not, its cute Smiley smile I also snagged a big metal easel for $14 for our big chalkboard frame at the entrance Smiley laugh

We're renting one as well - they're 3 graduated stands that are actually one piece.

Here's an example from google images.

Our reception venue provided them. I didn't even notice them to be completely honest.. I just had to look back at pictures to remember what they looked like.

We also did our first dance and cut our cake immediately because we wanted to party.

I wasn't going to have one until I found one at Home Goods that I loved so it gave me an excuse to buy it, and it was only $15!

I'm the odd one out here...I'm ordering a custom ceramic cake stand on Etsy (names and wedding date). But, I love cake and love to bake so it will be used again and again.

I bought my stand at Home Goods and hubbie spray painted it gold. The main reason we had one was to elevate our cake. We had only 62 guests, so we wanted some elevation.

For my daughter's wedding, I bought her silver pedestal at efavormart.com. She needed 22". I resold it. She also wanted her cake to be elevated. Actually, she wanted it to be a focal point. It sat on a raised platform behind the cake table. My daughter's pics are courtesy of Michaels Photography of Bensalem, PA. The baker was Dough Main Baked Goods.
