Anyone Using Parasols in Your Wedding?

Spunky kraut, on December 14, 2010 at 11:55 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 24

I'm having vintage (1930s feel) wedding outdoors. I'm thinking it would be nice for BM & I to have parasols. I've seen some people have them for guests too...is that overkill? And if I go that route where can I find ones that are relatively inexpensive, but still nice? (I'd really like ones without the Asian detail, as it doesn't fit with my wedding theme).

I did the WW search last night and had trouble finding specific sites to try except Ebay. I'd like to hear from brides who used parasols, or who are planning to use parasols to see if you can recommend certain sites or vendors. I trust recommendations from all of you WW ladies. I don't want to gamble my $$ on an untrusted vendor. Thanks in advance for your advice! Smiley smile

Thanks Fins! I'll have to PM her and ask her where she found them. Hey, did your venue ever get back to you abt the time change? Hope that got squared away for you.

I saw pictures from a wedding where the bridesmaids had parasols instead of flowers and it was very pretty. How many guests are you having? Might be better to put more money into yours and the bridesmaids than get a bunch for everyone. I've seen the, starting at like $2 but they seemed low quality.

We're having about 70-75 guests. Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I also started thinking that they would probably be in the way of people seeing if I had them for the guests.

Doing it for the bms if I can find them in the right color, but not for the guests. For them we're putting sandalwood fans on their seats for use during the outdoor ceremony.

I like the fans idea more and more now. Won't get in the way of people seeing. Did you buy the fans already? If so, where did you get them?

My friend did parasols. A friend of hers is very crafty and made them for her as a wedding present. They were pretty, and the girls had a lot of fun with them for pictures.

Our bridesmaids will have parasols and carry pomander balls from the wrists. I will have a parasol also, but I'm only using it for pictures; I won't be walking down the aisle with it. We're going to use the paper ones. Save on crafts has them and so does Luna Bazaar.

Mrs Jaques' pics are actually what inspired me to use the parasols in the first place, by the way! : )

I got them for myself and the BMs, but unfortunately we could really only use them inside because of those pesky 50mph winds. Like Fins said, we did get some decent photos, though, especially at the TTD shoot. :-)

I got them from eBay for $10 apiece: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=160363612463&si=cPxGNHxLv5s1sokgRsLIijZjjgE%3D&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#ht_1177wt_1139

Those are the exact same ones. The colors were not quite as they were pictured--the pink was MUCH lighter, not hot pink, and the orange was brighter. They were still nice, though, and actually quite durable--not up to 50mph winds, but I still have my orange one. And the fans that came with them were nice to have in the heat; we gave them to the GMs instead of boutonnieres. Smiley laugh

    Few more below.

I actually think having some for the guests would be nice--these cheap ones were perfectly nice and looked really good in photos precisely because they were relatively thin, so they did interesting things with light, while still holding up. I think they'd be good to have for people at an outdoor wedding if there's not a lot of natural shade.

Oops, just read the Asian detail bit, but there seem to be silk parasols on eBay without them, like these: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Red-girl-silk-parasol-painted-gold-pattern-/320403439141?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4a99887e25#ht_2211wt_905

    http://cgi.ebay.com/2-x-Very-nice-Plain-hot-pink-silk-Parasol-wedding-favor-/220487461408?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item335613aa20#ht_2991wt_905

Just search "silk parasol" or "plain silk parasol," and you'll get some options. They're so cheap, you could just order one to check the quality and then if it's good, order more from the same vendor.

I also used parasols and got mine on amazon.com. They wear fabric covered and were under $10 each. I don't have pics at work, but I got a lot of compliments on using them. We didn't have a theme, so they worked well. Here's the link to the seller.

We used them in my best friends wedding. I think they were great for photo ops. We didnt have them walking down the aisle but we did walk into the reception with them (reception was outside).

For both fans and parasols check out weddingbee.com in their classified section. Lots of good stuff!
