Anyone else planning to walk down the aisle to a very non-traditional song?

Jennifer, on September 21, 2012 at 10:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 42

Hey WW friends Smiley smile. I'm Jen and I'm new here (just got engaged a couple weeks ago!). My fiance and Adam and I are from Long Island, NY and have just started planning/thinking of ideas!

Just wondering, is anyone else planning on including some less-traditional wedding songs in their ceremony?

Adam is a BIG video game fan. One of his favorites is Final Fantasy VII. I've listened to the soundtrack (and some YouTube videos of string quartets playing the songs), and most of the songs are very pretty. We figured this could be something fun to throw in to surprise our video game-savvy friends, while our relatives think nothing of it, since it just sounds like a nice classical piece of music.

However now my problem is finding a string quartet that will actually know how to/be willing to play video game cover songs....any suggestions/tips from anyone who's done something similar?

Thanks for the help! Smiley smile

Jen

If you aren't set on having live ceremony musicians, you could always use pre-recorded music.

All of our ceremony music was non-traditional piano instrumentals. I walked down the aisle to a composition that is very near and dear to my heart and was written and recorded by one of my friends. Our DJ had an outdoor set-up and played our ceremony music and thought pre-recorded it still worked out beautifully.

I still have to find out if the chapel will allow it, but I actually want to walk down to "Eyes on Me" from the Final Fantasy 8 game (Your FH may be familiar with it, or you can find it on you tube). It was a song that meant alot to FH and when we got together, began to mean alot to me as well. I just plan on having the song on CD, though. No string quartet for us. lol.

Yep, my daughter walked down the aisle to Michael Jacksons "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" sung by my grade school friend with her husband on sax (he was the sax player for Cherry Poppin Daddies) and on keys our friend Ramsey, who actually worked with Michael.

I'm using Beauty and the Beast the Jim Brickman version, while it is instrumental it's not traditional. I think music from the Final Fantasy series would be really cool. It's very pretty music!

Thanks everyone! I'm gonna try my best to find a live quartet to do it, but if not, I guess an outdoor DJ set up could work just as well!

Welcome to WW. We were non traditional all the way. DH walked to "Book of Days" by Enya and I walked to "Setembro" by Quincy Jones. Our recessional was "Signed, Sealed, Dilivered" by Stevie Wonder.

I haven't decided 100% if I am walking to this song, but it will be played right before the wedding if I dont. John Lennons Imagine....I've always loved that song and we both have always loved the meaning of course.

"Little Martha" by the Allman Brothers...my fav band...it is such a "me" song. Grandma is pretty irritated, but I'm thrilled. Two of my dad's super talented guitar playing friends are learning it now to play it at the ceremony. Good luck with finding a quartet, I think your idea us awesome!

True by Ryan Cabrera. I love the line "I've waited all my life to cross this line to the only thing that's true."

OH MY GOD Gamer in Love, I LOVE "EYES ON ME"!!!

Sorry, just had a total fan girl moment. I freaking LOVE FFVIII (even more so than VII) and I would TOTALLY have that as my walking out song if I wasn't waiting for something else to pop out at me.

    Carry on.

If you're looking for a string quartet, try local colleges and/or school district music teachers. You'll probably either find the musicians or people who know them...

I'm not a big gamer, but I'm also not a big fan of classical music. I love older music though. So, my whole ceremony has older songs with lyrics. I'm walking down the aisle to Stand by Me and my recessional is It's in His Kiss. I don't know my BP precessional yet, but it will be something along those lines.

We really wanted an instrumental of our song, First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes.. I even contacted Vitamin String Quartet a year ago to ask them if they could cover it.. they never did Smiley sad

The real version works beautifully though.. It's a very dear song to us.. Can't wait to use it. Smiley smile
