Anyone else planning to walk down the aisle to a very non-traditional song?

Hey WW friends Smiley smile. I'm Jen and I'm new here (just got engaged a couple weeks ago!). My fiance and Adam and I are from Long Island, NY and have just started planning/thinking of ideas!

Just wondering, is anyone else planning on including some less-traditional wedding songs in their ceremony?

Adam is a BIG video game fan. One of his favorites is Final Fantasy VII. I've listened to the soundtrack (and some YouTube videos of string quartets playing the songs), and most of the songs are very pretty. We figured this could be something fun to throw in to surprise our video game-savvy friends, while our relatives think nothing of it, since it just sounds like a nice classical piece of music.

However now my problem is finding a string quartet that will actually know how to/be willing to play video game cover songs....any suggestions/tips from anyone who's done something similar?

Thanks for the help! Smiley smile

Jen

I will be the odd one out on this one. I will not be walking to any music. My aisle will be Harleys on each side of me and as I pass each bike will rev it up. When we exit they will all be hitting the throttle and making a lot of noise for us :-) it would be nice to have traditional music but that's just not him and I.

First of all, congratulations and welcome to WW! You have definitely come to the right place for advice.

Ours was non-traditional. I am a huge classical music/musical fan, but I did not want Canon in D because it's so overdone. Instead, I used Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral by Wagner, Adagio from the Clarinet Concerto by Mozart, and Clair De Lune by Debussy for our prelude music. My BMs walked down to "A Walk in the Forest" by Brian Crain and I walked down to an instrumental version of "One Hand, One Heart" from West Side Story. Our recessional was "Bittersweet Symphony" by the Vitamin String Quartet. As much thought as I put into it, I thought no one would care about the music besides me. I got so many comments about how our guests loved the music we used for the ceremony. Even our officiant said she thought I had the most beautiful song choices.

My FH really loves vitamin string quartet, but I have my mind set on walking to Edward Sharpes "Carries On"

One problem though...the aisle is incredible short.

I'm considering "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" on piano. Like Kelly, my aisle is very short too. I do have my 6 year old nephew carrying a banner "here comes the bride" in front of me - he may take .01 seconds, or he may soak in the attention and take a full minute. Hard to say!

@ Nicole thanks!!! Parts of our day will be fairly traditional but not much. That's not him and I. But what I've found is there isn't much out there for a Harley wedding. I'm having to get creative and I am sorely lacking in the creativity department!! Lol

Jennifer, I LOVE that you posted this! Smiley smile My FH is a big gaming fan and wants the song "Zelda's Lullabye" to be played sometime during our ceremony (I don't know if I'll be walking down to it or maybe have it played during our handfasting ceremony), but when we contacted live musicians (we looked mostly at solo artisits), we asked them right away if they charged extra to learn a song for us.. most said that they would be happy to learn it! The guitarist that we ended up going with has already started learning it and sent us a little "demo"! I think it's such a sweet way to honor the groom's interest, without it being obvious that it's a video game song! Like you said, most people won't think twice when they hear it, but I think he and his friends are going to get a kick out of it!

We are also non traditional - I am walking in to "Love Me Tender" but done by Nora Jones and we are walking out to Georgia Satelites "Don't give me know lines and keep your hands to yourself". @Angie W - we are also Harley and classic car people. We included the Harley in the engagement photos, but are using our 56 chevy at the wedding. Most of my FH's friends have classic cars and they are meeting before the wedding and carvaning in.

My bridal party is walking down to Chapel of Love and I'm walking down to At Last if I can help from bawling, that song just gets me!. Recessional I'm not sure of but I want it to be equally as fun and something old!

I plan on it. I am not a fan of the traditional wedding march song, mainly cause this is my second wedding, and I don't plan on walking to a song with words either. I am planning on walking down the isle to Butterfly Waltz-Piano or Cello Canon in D (guitar).

    Great ideas..

@Kathy R: Cherry Poppin Daddies? I wouldn't get within 100yrds of them with that name....lol

Going traditional here..'Canon in D Major' by the London Orchestra.....but some of the Processional songs will be out of the norm...soundtrack from "How to Train Your Dragon" has a really pretty piece that FW loves and wants to play..so it will Smiley smile

When my parents got married, my mom walked down the isle to The Carpenters- It's only just begun. So I was thinking about having our pianist play it on the piano as I walk down the isle.

After a really big, wedding-stress-driven argument, my husband and I settled on "The Emperor's March" from "The Empire Strikes Back" and the theme song from "Superman" for our recessional. For my entrance, Ihad a piece by Hayden. It all worked out great and set everyone smiling right off the bat.
