My husband and I are so glad we chose to have Chris and Leann photograph our wedding. After having some issues with our previous photographer we were left to scramble and find someone just 4 months before our wedding. Thank goodness we found Chris and he still had availability. He was easy and quick to respond during the entire planning process, and put all of our anxieties at ease after meeting him. The day of he was such a calming presence for me, and made sure we didn't stray to far off from our timeline of events that day. We got our preview and link to the online pictures of our wedding less than two weeks after our wedding and our USB from him shortly after that. His work speaks for itself, and he made sure he got plenty of posed but also beautiful candid pictures of my husband and I. Amazing! Highly recommend
Chris was so much fun, he fit right in with our group. Our day ended up being rainy and he was willing to go stand in the rain to make sure we got all the pictures that we wanted. Also, the turn around for pictures were SO fast and they all turned out beautifully. I would highly recommend him!

Our Wedding Day Photos
The two personalities fit perfectly with my wedding party. The guys loved Leann. She really captured the guy's personalities and what was important to Jeff. Put a lot of thought into your shot list. I did not do a great job thinking that through. Chris was so laid back and made the best of everything. I appreciate his go with the flow attitude and his kindness. It was a high stress day and he made the part that can be uncomfortable a lot more comfortable. I was very happy with my pictures! Thank you Chris and Leann!

Incredible Wedding Photographer
Chris was absolutely incredible for our wedding day! He was so great at getting candids and making us feel comfortable in front of the camera the entire time. He was great at coming up with locations with magnificent backgrounds which we are obsessed with. As well as getting great shots of us as a couple, he was able to shoot our location and details of the wedding so we will be able to remember them! In addition, he was able to capture multiple pictures of our guests that we have been able to look back and share with them! We are so happy with how every pictured turned out and how helpful and professional he was through the entire day! Couldn't recommend him enough!

Amazingly creative, easy-going and authentic photography! Best decision we made
As local northern Michigan residents, we were very familiar with the photographers in our area but we wouldn’t have chosen anyone besides Chris for our wedding day. Chris is not only an absolute joy to work with but he is so creative in capturing the beauty of the moment naturally without over editing his images. Every image seems as if you are in that very moment - which we have always fallen in love with! Chris and LeAnn did a wonderful job working with all of our families and were very helpful in choosing the location of our shots based on the weather that day. We couldn’t believe the quantity and quality of the photos that were captured that day. I personally have watched his customized image slideshow (with our wedding songs) probably a million times! Great Fun, Great Photos, Great Price
I didn't know taking photos was supposed to be this fun! Chris was an absolute champ! We planned to have Chris for our up North 2020 Wedding but when that was not to be and we moved our wedding to a different state, we traded our deposit for engagement photos. We looked for a photographer for our 2021 wedding in Wisconsin and meanwhile and got our photos back from the engagement session. We were head over heels in love with these photos and couldn't choose anybody else. Chris so kindly agreed to come to Wisconsin for our wedding and we were overjoyed.
Chris made our whole day so simple. He kept things light and fun and when he needed to get unruly groomsmen to behave, he did it with great expertise. We spent alot of time with Chris on our wedding day and he was simultaneously professional and artistic. Chris capitalized on some beautiful lighting and some non-traditional spaces and it made for gorgeous pictures. I liked how bright Chris's pictures turned out and how wholesome they felt. Every photo was unique and simple. Nothing felt posed and Chris was so willing to let my husband and I just play and be ourselves. Chris gave guidance on our timeline and helped us get pictures with almost all of our guests. Chris returned our photos in a month which was such quick turn around and his pricing was no-nonsense simple. He never tried to nickel and dime us and was always quick to communicate.
Chris was great at managing family and friends. He has a well trained eye and exuded joy during our time with him. We loved working with Chris and we loved the product he created.

Absolutely Wonderful Photography Team!
Our wedding venue had a list of preferred vendors that we used as a guide when we chose who would be a part of our wedding day. Be aware that just because a vendor is on the list, does not automatically mean that the vendor is wonderful and you won't have any issues. We emailed and spoke with different vendors in the different categories, but sadly we ended up questioning why some of the vendors even made the cut. This was definitely not true of Chris Van Winkle Photography. Both Chris and his assistant, LeAnn, were amazing! We had emailed him images we wanted to recreate and they came prepared with the images printed on paper, which were crossed off as we went through the day. Chris even shot a heart-shaped photo of all of our guests with a drone that turned out beautifully! They were both easy to work with and our bridal party and guests were also very impressed the day of the wedding, as well as when they saw the photos and slideshow within a month after our wedding. We loved all of the personal touches and have watched the slideshow he created (with songs from our wedding) numerous times! The pictures they took will allow us to remember all of the special moments from the most magical day of our lives. We will be forever grateful and we can't wait to make canvases for our forever home that we'll be building soon...

He is professional, personable and very is good at his job. Our wedding pictures as the wedding couple and our families were fantastic. He also does a great job at keeping the wedding party in tune for the pictures required to make your special day memorable. He did a great job taking pictures during the entire day/night and it was fun to see the wedding guests interactions and experiences that we were not present for. Awesome Wedding Photographer!
Chris was fantastic! He and LeAnn were professional yet relaxed and were so fun to have throughout our entire wedding day. He gave great tips for posing in certain shots, but also let us be our natural selves. The lighting wasn't great at our ceremony spot and he quickly knew a great backup option. In addition to getting the photos back quickly Chris also prepared a beautiful slideshow set to music that we loved seeing and sharing with others. Highly recommend!!

Chris was our ideal photographer
While my daughter's wedding was almost 5 weeks ago, I am still coming down from the wedding high of how beautiful and happy it all was. Thanks to Chris I don't have to just remember it, but can look at the picture and relive it. The slideshow he compiled set to two songs the wedding couple picked was breathtaking and I couldn't stop watching it, it was that amazing. Chris got all the important planned shots, as well as capturing moments and expressions that are so fun to look back on, perhaps seeing some for the first time since we could not be everywhere at once! His style is professional, yet fun and pleasant. And he doesn't do any cornball contrived shots, which my daughter and I really appreciated. We both highly recommend him.

Chris and LeAnn were just perfect for our wedding day! We met with Chris prior to our wedding and we were at ease with how chill yet very knowledgeably he was with his craft. We provided a list of all the unique elements our wedding had and Chris and LeAnn both made sure to capture every detail!We were so delighted that they were able to capture everything! During the day of the wedding, they were both on time and very efficient with their photography. They were both very flexible and friendly during the entire day! We had such an amazing day and Chris and his team were a big part of that! We loved his work and that is why we chose him as our photographer. But his personality was what made him the perfect choice for us.
His relaxed personality and exceptional organization (both ahead of time and day of) allowed me to really enjoy all the moments of our day. I can be a little Type A when it comes to planning and it just felt like we were in really good hands the whole time, so I didn't need to stress about the details. He kept us on track without feeling rushed through the day. He was a blast to work with which definitely helped everyone to loosen up. Lastly, he had a great presence- he was there capturing each moment while still giving my husband and I space to enjoy our time together on our special day. Simply the best! It was an absolute honor to have Chris photograph our wedding. In fact, next to marrying my wife, hiring Chris was the best decision we made regarding our wedding. He captured so many moments of our wedding which conveyed the spirit and essence of our wedding day,

Amazing and Talented Wedding Photographer
We can’t say enough good things about Chris and Leanne! From our first conversation over the phone to the last photo snapped, everything was perfect! We talked to a few different vendors and I immediately knew I wanted Chris just from our phone call. He is so easy to talk to and worked so well with everyone in our family and wedding party. Chris was super reasonable in price but his photos and work ethic were worth so much more! We met with Chris a few days before the wedding and we could have talked with him for hours. Chris was the absolute best to work with! We weren’t stressed at all and he just went along with our timeline changes, making rev mediations as we went. Our pictures turned out incredible! Our 14year old lab was wandering through the whole thing and he managed to get several shots with her in it like it was planned.
Leading up to the wedding Chris communicated with us on the time line and such. He was present, but not overwhelming.
If you’re looking for a laidback, exceptional photographer this is your guy! Everyone from the day commented how there was always a camera around, capturing some of the best moments like the groomsman splitting his pants, to my shoes coming off, to getting basically one picture of every guest that came! Absolutely wonderful!
Chris was great! He was super responsive leading up to the wedding and was incredibly easy to work with despite us living several hundred miles from our venue. He took wonderful photos that truly captured the spirit of our wedding and got them back to us far more quickly than I expected! The best part about working with Chris was his understanding of what we were looking for and being able to adapt throughout the day. My wife hates super staged photos, so Chris made sure we only took natural looking photos. When my wife got tired of staged photos, aside from the obligatory family-group shots of course, Chris made sure he stopped directing us and just stayed close to get the perfect shot. I can't recommend Chris enough!

Castle Farms - LaFleur Wedding
Chris is amazing! He was flexible with us and joined in on the fun atmosphere. Chris is a timely professional who is clearly passionate in his work. I really appreciated his awareness on the big picture of the day, and also the details or "small things." We were able to trust that he was getting awesome photos while we enjoyed the night. Some of our favorites were the shots he got of our sweet 90 year old grandpa. I highly recommend his service!

AMAZING experience working with Chris! Highly recommended
Chris was absolutely amazing to work with. He has a very laid back personality. Chris was always quick to answer my emails during the planning process (even when he was out of the country). The day of the wedding he was professional, flexible and made taking the pictures fun. The final prints were better than we ever expected.

Chris was a consummate professional, both in the planning stages and on the day of. He was truly an invaluable part of the day, and worked to fix small problems we and even our wedding planner didn't notice.

Beyond the amazing pictures Chris provided, he is truly a calming presence which is something that is absolutely essential for your wedding day. He made the day super fun and easy and we cannot thank him enough for it! He got us our pictures back within 3 weeks!!!!!!!! Even after the wedding, he has been extremely accommodating promptly responding to all the annoying questions I have had for him. I have no regrets and would recommend him to any one! Chris was an absolute pleasure to work with! Not only initially did he work with me on price and the timeline that was best fit for our special day but he also was very quick to respond to any emails I had with questions or concerns. On the day of Chris came right in and was super personable and relate-able. Made me feel very comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera. Unfortunately I didnt have the greatest of venue coordinators but thankfully I had Chris. When they werent helping to make my day run smoothly Chris stepped in and made everything PERFECT! I highly recommend if you want someone who is going to go above and beyond for you and your day and also take INCREDIBLE photos go with Chris Van Winkle! He not only did he do an amazing job at our wedding but the next day he did a trash the dress video shoot with a drone that we will cherish forever!! ALL HIS IDEA!! My husband and I enjoyed him so much we talk about meeting up with him next time we are in Northern Michigan!

There are so words to describe how awesome Chris is! The first time we met with Chris he invited my husband and I over for coffee at his condo to discuss and ask questions on how our wedding day would go. We both knew he would be perfect for us. He is laid back and a total surfer dude, but incredibly professional.
The day of our wedding Chris also was gracious enough to drop his assistant at our cottage to ride over in our boat across lake charlevoix to our venue. Everyone felt so comfortable the whole day. We LOVE our pictures. They came out perfect. And Chris was able to send them to us within a few weeks. We would deffintly work with Chris again for future shoots

If you are looking for an amazing photographer, look no further because Chris and his team are it. We started our journey with Chris during engagement pictures during the fall of 2017. We had to reschedule a few times due to the late color change and he was so accommodating. With a limited amount of time due to weather conditions on the actual day we did our pictures, Chris made everything work and made a dreary rainy day turn into some of the best pictures that we absolutely love. He was so easy to work with, extremely efficient, incredibly nice and his talent really shows through on every picture. Flash forward to our wedding this July at the Shanahan Barn in Charlevoix, MI and Chris and his team captured every single aspect. Even our guests were talking about how amazing and talented they were. From our first look near lake Michigan, to a beautiful ceremony, family photos and awesome candids of our guests. We honestly could not be happier. We have so many amazing photos to choose from we will never be able to decide which ones to print.

Chris truly is phenomenal. His chill, yet professional personality put us at ease right away as neither my wife nor I are comfortable in front of the camera. We had an opportunity to meet with Chris and do an engagement session about 8 months prior to our June wedding. This honestly was one of the best decisions we made during the planning process and would highly recommend it. This allowed us to get to know Chris and better understand the process of our day from his perspective. This also gave us an opportunity to explain what we were looking for. Chris is a great listener, very creative and efficient. He was able to capture us in a number of amazing locations in a short period of time. Leading up to our day he was super responsive to all of our emails and questions. On our wedding day he was a calm voice during the craziness. We'd bring something to his attention and his response was always "Don't worry. I got it". Those are amazing words to hear on your wedding day. Chris and LeAnn were amazing. Fast and effective at taking pictures and we got beautiful shots. I loved them but the true test was my mom -- she's very particular. I sent her the link and waited... When she called and raved, I knew that they were truly amazing and that Chris had hit it out of the park. Chris and LeAnn also have fun, laid back attitudes which were great during the hectic nature of a wedding day. And they were fabulous about getting the shots we wanted -- both formal family shots and fun ones (like us having a beer in a local brewery or us walking to our reception).

First off, we absolutely love love love all of our pictures! I have been waiting patiently to get them back and hoping it wouldn’t take too long, but Chris exceeded our expectations by getting all of them back to us not even a week and a half after the wedding! He was able to capture every special moment, and got amazing candid photos of practically every single person, couple, and group in attendance! We were blown away by the number and quality of close up, memorable, candid shots he got throughout the entire day. Most photographers might throw out all of those silly pictures, but Chris and LeAnn were able to beautiful capture every silly, fun, and sometimes embarrassing moment and those turned out to be everyone’s favorite pictures.
Chris and LeAnn are amazing to work with. They seemed to be everywhere they needed to be but went seemingly unnoticed. They made the entire day effortlessly seamless. We never felt obstructed by them - where some photographers may interrupt to pose you, or stop you and make you reenact something so they could get a better shot - in fact it was the opposite. Chris and LeAnn were able to capture every beautiful moment and then some, at times without us even knowing they were there! They were a huge help in getting us where we needed to be on schedule and were such a joy to have around on our wedding day. Through their experience they were also very helpful at guiding us through all aspects of the day. They were very flexible and worked with us to fulfill our every request. They also know some pretty great spots around town for pictures.
I would 100% recommend Chris as your wedding photographer!

Chris photographed our wedding for us and he did an amazing job even though it had begun to rain and we were fighting against the darkness with the sun setting. All his photos came out beautifully and you can't even tell it was raining. He got all the shots we wanted and even some we hadn't thought of. Chris and his second shooter were polite and understanding which is what we needed during such a stressful day. I would highly recommend him to others.

We had a wonderful experience with Chris and LeAnn! We initially met Chris for our engagement photos which turned out beautiful at the Mackinaw City and Mackinac Bridge. The water and harbor pictures were gorgeous! Our wedding was at the Cross in the Woods in Indian River and Perry Hotel in Petoskey. He captured perfectly the church and it’s natural surroundings. He knew all the great spots around the town!! All the photos came out Beautifully!, And everyone enjoyed our photo slideshow which was very elegant, creative and well-done! It was their sincerity that made the day even more relaxing. That isn't even including how much FUN they are. The photographs they took were absolutely amazing and everyone was so impressed.
Upon initial contact Chris was very responsive and helpful with any questions we had. He was able to build upon our ideas of what kind of pictures we would like taken.

Chris' creativity with photographing our wedding party, Church/reception venues, and family formals truly made our pictures unique to us and our day. Chris and LeaAnn were also considerably laid back, which helped eased the inevitable tensions of the day, while they both also knew when to step up and guide our friends/family into photo-ready positions. I can't say enough about how unbelievably pleased we are with our pictures. I can honestly say there wasn't a bad one in the bunch! Plus, the photo slide-show that Chris made....literally brought me to tears. He did a fantastic job of capturing both the important moments and the casual moments that I might have forgotten otherwise. Chris' initial promptness in responding during our "feeling-out-process" of photographers was also an attribute that seemed rare to come by. We knew Chris had abilities from perusing his website. I also follow his Facebook site and was struck by the honest humanity in his photos from all over the world. We were very excited for him to be my daughter's wedding photographer. We were not disappointed, and in fact, we are absolutely elated!
One morning I awoke a bit "blah." When I discovered the wedding slideshow was ready (In addition to hundreds and hundreds of pics), my heart overflowed with joy - it totally made my day. I was amazed by the quality of and honesty in each photo. I have watched multiple times now; the pure joy Chris captured in the faces of both families is just outstanding. He gets the perfect shots - both posed and candid!
There are lots of photos - it took me the better part of an hour just to scan them! I have a wall where we have framed pics of our 4 kids and their spouses. It is going to be very hard to choose this youngest daughter's perfect wedding pic because they are all wonderful.
I would recommend Chris Van Winkle Photography for any type of memories you need to create. He and his assistant were easy going and fun to be around. They helped make this wedding even more memorable.
As an aside, I dislike all pictures of me. I liked every single one he took, so that in itself is very unique.
I can hardly wait until he starts photographing our grand-babies. :)

We got married in May in Traverse City and Chris was our photographer. He was amazing! We planned our wedding from out of state and Chris was so easy to work with. He always emailed back promptly with any questions we had and his easy going attitude made things nice and relaxed for us. Our pictures turned out so beautiful, we couldn't be any more pleased. We were absolutely ecstatic with the work of Chris Van Winkle Photography! He photographed our engagement session and our wedding. Just breeze through some of his portfolio and you will quickly see his style is unique yet classic and simple. I thought it was cool, in the midst of wedding day madness chris pulled us aside to drive us around the park and get some pics of just Jess and I. Those pics are the best of the day! And it was really nice to spend some time alone with my bride. Not only did chris and the team crush it on the photos but he put together and really sweet video / silideshow with a personal touch of letting us pick the tunes we wanted to go along with the video. We leaned on chris for his guidance and expertise when it came to the day of the wedding. He made things much easier for us on the day of the event which created a stress free environment for Jess and I. All and all we have nothing but good things to say about chris and his team. We had a super intimate wedding, and Chris did an amazing job capturing the entire day. He captured those sweet special moments, the silly moments and everything inbetween. And he was an absolute pleasure to work with.
He ran around the entire property with us as we dashed around trying to fight the wind and beat the rain. (And let me tell you...those pictures he took with the dramatic skies were beyond incredible...definitely frame worthy.) As for during the ceremony...I didn't even know he was there, but he got it from every angle possible.
And to top it off, he got the photos back to us super quick, only a couple of weeks after the wedding.
We love our photos, and we loved working with Chris. He's definitely a winner! ??

Chris and LeAnn, his assistant, are wonderful. Chris worked with me from the day that we booked him until after the wedding. He responds to emails within 24 hours, if not sooner, and provides as much information as possible. His laidback demeanor was a perfect match with my personality. I tend to get a bit overwhelmed, but Chris was always available to help get me back on track and feel less stressed. He allowed me to have say in what types of photos I wanted, which left me with no regrets. I was worried I would want to have pictures done, but not get to them, however, Chris ensured that he listened to all of my ideas. Although I had many ideas, Chris guided them to ensure that more traditional pictures were taken in addition to some of my more "fun" ideas. I felt that Chris and I worked as a team, which I thought was very special. Most photographers ask you to take specific positions and don't allow the type of freedom Chris allowed. In the end, it felt like Chris was an old friend or family member. You can very quickly tell that Chris is passionate about his work, but also cares for his individual clients. He makes taking picture after picture fun, rather than making it feel like a chore! I truly appreciate Chris and LeAnn. If I was just starting from the beginning of wedding planning, I would choose Chris immediately.

Chris responded so promptly and was so personable. He was always reaching out to us throughout the year and was so easy to get ahold of if we had any questions. Our engagement photos and wedding photos are unbelievable. I have so many family and friends telling us how amazing our photos were. Not only were our photos incredible, but Chris and LeAnn were too. I wish I could give more than five stars. From the very start I knew that both Chris and LeAnn were such a perfect fit for us. They blended in so well with our guests... Made sure everyone felt important.. And better yet, didn't make Kyle and I feel any pressure what so ever to pose for cheesy photos. They worked so hard from start to finish and captured some of the most amazing moments of our wedding. Chris and LeAnn worked so quickly and efficiently to get our formal photos completed so we could join our party.. And quite honestly cannot believe how quickly our photos were returned to us... I was shocked, but so grateful. Our pictures are something we will have to cherish forever, and we will because they're AMAZING. Prior to the wedding, Chris responded to emails, phone calls and texts soo quickly, which I appreciated being as impatient as I am....both Kyle and I are so incredibly happy and excited about the photos we have.. Words do not do justice the work that Chris and LeAnn do. From the very get go, we felt extremely comfortable meeting with Chris. Chris and LeAnn are both the perfect blend of fun to work with, while still showing a sincere professionalism and passion about what they do. We were blown away by our engagement photos, and the ideas that Chris and LeAnn had with regards to setting, lighting, unique venues, etc. Chris stayed in touch without us throughout the year, and working together on our wedding day was working with more than a vendor. Chris and LeAnn truly value the service they provide, but also the experience their clients go through on their special day. If we wanted it, Chris and LeAnn made it happen. If Chris and LeAnn had an idea (and they did frequently thankfully!), they knew how to communicate those in a way that would make us feel like it was the best decision for what we wanted. Chris and LeAnn both spend a real amount of time getting to know their couples, their interests, and what they are looking for. We watch our slideshow so often it's embarrassing to admit, we just got our flash drive of pictures and are blown away, and we thank our lucky stars every day for what Chris and LeAnn did for us. While we really enjoy our posed and planned pictures, the amount of real and raw candid shots that they were able to get throughout our day are so beautiful to have and relive. Our family and friends have been reaching out to us non-stop raving about our pictures, especially friends who have been married recently and gone through this same experience. As most brides, photos were important to me and I had a groom who has never been a fan of having his picture taken. So, I was a little nervous. However, as we got to know Chris and LeAnn, I realized we had nothing to worry! They made my husband feel at ease, and we had an absolute blast taking pictures! We just got the pictures back and are in love with them!
The other point that I would like to stress is Chris' professionalism. As a bride planning a wedding from miles away, he made the process so easy. He was always prompt with his responses and available for any questions.

I am so pleased with the amount of photographs they were able to take and all of them are great! This may sound funny, but thinking back on the wedding day, the thing that amazes me most is that I don't remember them having a huge presence - and I say this as a positive thing. They made sure to get all the family photos and wedding party photos I asked for, but during the ceremony I don't remember seeing them, during the cocktail hour and dancing, I was never distracted, but they got all the pictures! Chris is absolutely amazing! I absolutely love my engagement and wedding photos. They were totally personalized and captured our day beautifully. Chris and Leann are very creative and professional. I was totally impressed with the whole process and would highly recommend him to anyone!

Chris and LeAnn are fantastic! Professional, friendly, great listeners and knowledgeable, gifted photographers.
In planning an out-of-state wedding, I was a bit nervous finding vendors, but Chris was a lucky find. He's great with communication, and responding to emails and questions quickly.
We met the day of our wedding but it didn't feel like we were working with strangers. Chris and LeAnn were wonderful about making us feel comfortable and were fun to work with. They have a great eye for poses and in-the-moment shots. I really liked that before the wedding, Chris emailed a suggested photography list; it made the day run smoothly and efficiently and they captured many memories for us.
After the wedding, they had a quick turn-around for getting the photographs to us. There were a lot of options for color/black-and-white photographs as well as different printing services.
