John Winters was the best decision my husband and I made. We knew our photographer was the most important vendor for us, so we booked early! Good thing too - John books up FAST. We did our engagement shoot at the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm in December 2020, and John completely blew us away. He was funny, fast-paced, and had an incredible eye. We were nervous because neither of us had done professional photos before, but John took care of us. We adore the photos. When our wedding came around, John knew exactly what questions to ask us and how to handle all of our family members during the madness of the wedding day. It rained so John made some quick adjustments for my father/daughter first look, and the photos are PERFECT. I cannot recommend him enough when anyone asks about wedding photographers. Our photos are everything I hoped and dreamed they would be. Tons of hilarious candid shots that I never would have seen without John's expert eye. I feel like I get to relive my wedding over and over again every time I look at them. John is 100% worth the investment - you will never regret working with him.

I am absolutely blown away by the incredible wedding photos we came away with. John is a phenomenal photographer, but he's also a great person and very easy to work with. We hired him for our wedding and engagement shoot. He is reliable, personable, and professional. He listened to what our concerns and wishes were with what we were wanting from our photography and accomplished exactly what we asked for.

We were both super awkward for posed photos but he found ways to make us look super natural (no idea how).

I know we weren't easy, because I told him I absolutely hate posed photos, we did most of them before the ceremony and told him that once the ceremony hit, I wanted to enjoy the cocktail hour with my guests and we gave him like 20 minutes for posed photos lol. He nailed it!

Our dream was to have photos mostly candid and of us and our guests just enjoying themselves and it's exactly what we got. I loved how many energetic candid shots he got of our guests in perfectly fun moments.

He is tremendously talented and my husband and I both enjoyed working with him and getting to know him. We also were very appreciative that he was always very responsive when communicating, hit every deadline he had promised with turnaround for our photos, and gave us completely realistic timelines. Special shoutout to his delivery of a few photos earlier so we could use them for Christmas/Hannukah cards!

From the start, we knew exactly what we wanted: Someone with a lot of heart, creative vision, bold ideas, emotional colors, and thoughtful compositions - John is all of these things (and more.) He made us feel at ease on our zoom prep calls. He brought a delightful second shooter with him and worked quickly (even while setting up difficult shots) - an essential skill during a fast-paced wedding.

At the church, he sprayed things in the air to create dramatic texture (photos were WOW!), positioned himself in the perfect spots in perfect timing to capture the unforgettable moments, and seemed to be everywhere without being obtrusive.

We didn’t want boring, standard, posed shots of our wedding. We wanted a more documentary/journalistic take – someone who could make us *feel* how we felt on that day when enjoying the pics years from now. That’s exactly how John approaches his craft. Along with our gorgeous, unique portraits, we have funny shots of bridesmaids crying into rose petals, kids passed out, grandparents drunk on the dance floor. We just received our pictures last night, and it felt like we were re-living the day. We wanted photographs that were romantic and candid, colorful and alive. John's enthusiasm for living in the moment shines brightly in his photographs. Each photo felt so real, like if I waited a moment more, the subjects would dance out of frame. I could hear my fiancé's vows over again, and our guests sniffling and laughing. Looking at these pictures indoors at midnight, I could feel the warmth of the sun from our perfect day. And John himself is amazing. He helped us through the wedding planning process. He answered my random emails in the middle of the night. He braved a snowstorm so we could take EPIC engagement photos. He was like a newfound friend to us. He was the very first vendor we hired, literally the week we got engaged, and we are so grateful for him. We really, really loved working with John. We know you will too! He's absolutely the best, and if we need anymore photos of anything, John will always be our first choice.

There are not enough good things to say about John. Completely cool and collected while I tittered around before the ceremony, bugging out about nonsense, John was able to talk to me down, all while capturing all the little moments happening. Such a wonderful presence at our wedding, and just a truly gifted photographer whose photos made us laugh and cry. He has such a gift for candid shots. He is an expert at his craft, you can't do better than hiring John for your wedding.

John was more than amazing ! Not only was he professional but he was so funny and personable as well. We did not even consider him as a hired photographer at our wedding he was a friend and guest of ours as we considered him family at this point .
