John Winters was the best decision my husband and I made. We knew our photographer was the most important vendor for us, so we booked early! Good thing too - John books up FAST. We did our engagement shoot at the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm in December 2020, and John completely blew us away. He was funny, fast-paced, and had an incredible eye. We were nervous because neither of us had done professional photos before, but John took care of us. We adore the photos. When our wedding came around, John knew exactly what questions to ask us and how to handle all of our family members during the madness of the wedding day. It rained so John made some quick adjustments for my father/daughter first look, and the photos are PERFECT. I cannot recommend him enough when anyone asks about wedding photographers. Our photos are everything I hoped and dreamed they would be. Tons of hilarious candid shots that I never would have seen without John's expert eye. I feel like I get to relive my wedding over and over again every time I look at them. John is 100% worth the investment - you will never regret working with him. -

John Winters delivers! What a wonderful wedding photography experience he created. We’re over the moon with our photos. These are the memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime and now we have them captured in the most creative, spirited, dramatic, and fun way - thanks to the inventiveness and talent of our photographer, John Winters.
From the start, we knew exactly what we wanted: Someone with a lot of heart, creative vision, bold ideas, emotional colors, and thoughtful compositions - John is all of these things (and more.) He made us feel at ease on our zoom prep calls. He brought a delightful second shooter with him and worked quickly (even while setting up difficult shots) - an essential skill during a fast-paced wedding.
At the church, he sprayed things in the air to create dramatic texture (photos were WOW!), positioned himself in the perfect spots in perfect timing to capture the unforgettable moments, and seemed to be everywhere without being obtrusive.
We didn’t want boring, standard, posed shots of our wedding. We wanted a more documentary/journalistic take – someone who could make us *feel* how we felt on that day when enjoying the pics years from now. That’s exactly how John approaches his craft. Along with our gorgeous, unique portraits, we have funny shots of bridesmaids crying into rose petals, kids passed out, grandparents drunk on the dance floor. John captured it all – and he did it with style! Thank you, we’re grateful.

Best decision ever
We just received our pictures last night, and it felt like we were re-living the day. We wanted photographs that were romantic and candid, colorful and alive. John's enthusiasm for living in the moment shines brightly in his photographs. Each photo felt so real, like if I waited a moment more, the subjects would dance out of frame. I could hear my fiancé's vows over again, and our guests sniffling and laughing. Looking at these pictures indoors at midnight, I could feel the warmth of the sun from our perfect day. And John himself is amazing. He helped us through the wedding planning process. He answered my random emails in the middle of the night. He braved a snowstorm so we could take EPIC engagement photos. He was like a newfound friend to us. He was the very first vendor we hired, literally the week we got engaged, and we are so grateful for him. We really, really loved working with John. We know you will too! He's absolutely the best, and if we need anymore photos of anything, John will always be our first choice. -

There are not enough good things to say about John. Completely cool and collected while I tittered around before the ceremony, bugging out about nonsense, John was able to talk to me down, all while capturing all the little moments happening. Such a wonderful presence at our wedding, and just a truly gifted photographer whose photos made us laugh and cry. He has such a gift for candid shots. He is an expert at his craft, you can't do better than hiring John for your wedding. -

John was more than amazing ! Not only was he professional but he was so funny and personable as well. We did not even consider him as a hired photographer at our wedding he was a friend and guest of ours as we considered him family at this point . John is amazing!
John’s work is amazing. I continue to get compliments on my photographer, both for his photos but also how he interacted with my bridal party and guests at the wedding. His work speaks for itself - worth every penny!!! John provided excellent communication throughout the THREE rescheduled weddings we had due to covid. When moving dates (besides the venue of course) John Winter's was the only vendor I HAD to have available before rebooking my date. I would recommend John over and over again. -

I'm super late getting this review out, but I have to take the time to say how amazing John was to work with! Getting married is stressful enough, but doing it during covid while still trying to work full time was crazy! I had very little assistance planning our wedding that went from 150ish to 100ish to 30ish as covid restrictions changed. Not being able to meet with many vendors in person and just trusting the professionals we hired was a leap of faith. But I would hire John Winters Photography again in a heart beat! He was professional and timely, rolling with the punches while giving us beautiful candid photos. I can't stand tons of posed shots and John listened to that and made a nice mix. When we posted them to social media, my mother called me CRYING! The photos took her breath away, she was so happy that with everything else that didn't go quite as planned in 2020, our photos turned out amazing. It would not be the last phone conversation like that and I've been asked for the contact information for our photographer close to a dozen times. John takes the time to get to know you as a couple (even from a distance) and that care shows up in his work. Thank you John for your patience with this nervous attention detailed bride and TONS of thanks for photos we will truly treasure for the rest of our lives. -

We just received our wedding photos back from John (way ahead of schedule) and we are beyond ecstatic! The quality and quantity of shots were amazing and far exceeded our expectations. John is a professional through and through which showed from the first meeting we had with him. He listened closely and expressed interest in getting a good feel about what we wanted and filled in the gaps where needed. He graciously made himself available during the wedding planning process and coordinated with other vendors such that he was able to hit the ground running on our big day, and did he ever! John arrived early and got everything set up even before he was technically "on the clock" and believe me he kept taking shots until the very last minute! First class work ethic if I ever saw it. To top that off, he is extremely personable and fun to be around. He was also pretty good about stepping out of his comfort zone since we had a non-traditional wedding, and showed remarkable curiosity and willingness to learn about our culture. All in all I would recommend John without reservation- anytime, any day! -

We loved that when we looked through Jonn's gallery, no couple ever looks the same or photo looks the same. John has a gift for being in the moment and genuinely taking in the surroundings to capture the moment that the couple or individual is happening. He's such a riot and fun too! A few years after our wedding he came back to take first year pics of our son and our family. We just had a great time and love our photos of our family through his lens. -

John was absolutely amazing when it came to working with us by being flexible with our itty bitty timeline and our photographer requirements/expectations. Before we decided to go with John we actually already made plans with another photographer who wasn’t able to shoot for our wedding, but recommended John to us. John was amazing enough to keep our first photographers rates! How awesome is that! We truly appreciate how informative he was during our meetings and how fun and easy going he was during our special day!! Upon first meeting John, I found it difficult to get a reading on the guy. He was willing to meet though and was receptive to our ideas and what we wanted and was willing to be communicative w/ anything else moving forward.
John Winters is truly an exceptional photographer and quite the character. Everybody at my wedding loved him. So many people came up to me afterwards and said, "That photographer was amazing!" John was everywhere, and his photographs did a great job of matching the mood. When I was drunk and dancing on the floor, he met me on the floor and snapped some good shots. When we were happy, dancing, and drunk, he had some great blurry dancing photos. He was perfect w/ all the traditional stuff, and capturing candid shots as well. Truly spectacular. Very professional. He made us all feel comfortable throughout, and was open to whatever came up. John has an eye for moments worth photographing, has good vision and framing. Good knowledge of camera and lighting. He was a one-man army. "Rock star" is a phrase that keeps coming up when I describe him to people. I love this dude, and you would be smart to book him for your wedding. I'll cherish these pictures for the rest of my life, and then maybe they will be cherished for a long time after I am gone as well. -

John met and exceeded our expectations from the very start. We had a specific idea of what we were wanting, and John was very flexible & happy to accommodate us. He was incredibly responsive, replied to every message/question within a few hours, and was awesome at checking in throughout the planning process to ensure we were on the same page. John was already present and ready to go when we arrived at the venue and made everyone feel comfortable and at ease. Aside from having a fun sense of humor and friendly personality, the best way I can describe John is balanced. He was great interacting with our bridal party and our guests but also assertive and confident to the point where things were done efficiently and smoothly. He not only captured candids as we enjoyed our wedding day, but took the time and thought to occasionally lead us aside for a few minutes to get more intimate/posed shots, which turned out incredible and ended up being some of my favorite photographs. John was extremely creative with his lighting, which I knew would be challenging since our ceremony took place outside at night. He delivered the classic shots we wanted while also delivering artistic outside-the-box shots that wowed us. He emailed us some sneak peeks within 24 hours of our wedding and delivered our entire portfolio in less than a week and a half (we actually received our portfolio on Christmas Eve, which we were not expecting!) If you're looking for a talented stress-free wedding photographer that will deliver timely and high-quality work, John is your guy. You will be fortunate to have his creative eye and friendly demeanor on your special day. -

What a talented dude! We hired John for our beautiful wedding at Villa Del Lago! He did not disappoint! I also used his serviced for my bridal portraits and I am so thankful I did! We had plenty of time to get creative and have fun! John has a great eye, an extreme amount of knowledge of photography/lighting, and creative inspiration that drives him to produce such spectacularly beautiful imagery with amazing composition! Not to mention, he's pretty funny and is great at helping those of us that are bad at posing look like we know what we are doing! Amazing amazing AMAZING! John was absolutely wonderful. He was prompt (15 minutes early even!), polite, and friendly. His work is truly unique, he has a great eye and really knows how to use the venue and get an interesting shot. The quality for what I paid was better than I could have hoped. His prices are very reasonable, much less than I've seen from other photographers, but the quality of his work is still very professional. I loved every photo! The turnaround time was also very quick. John sent me a few teaser photos the NEXT MORNING and the full photo album was sent in just two weeks! I would absolutely recommend John, I had no issues and was thrilled by the results. -

I can not say enough great things about John. I am SO lucky we found him for our wedding photographer. Not only is he incredibly talented, but he really made the whole process so easy. He even made files suitable for Instagram, the website, and printing for us! He has experience with so many Austin venues and is an amazing resource of knowledge for any bride. John Winters: Photographer Extraordinaire. Book this man NOW.
From the moment I spoke with John on the phone about shooting our wedding-I knew we were in brilliant hands. He was warm and open and I felt connected right away. He was highly reccommended to us and we were so lucky when he said yes to our wedding! We had looked at his shots from previous events and fell in love with his hip and captivating style. On the day of the wedding, he arrived at the bridal suite and just began shooting, capturing moments-funny and heartfelt. Our shots are everything from super hilarious & creative to hip, NYC-moviestar shots and they are SO us. Throughout all our silliness, he also snuck in the genuine, precious moments-capturing our love so perfectly. He was so very open to our goofy nature - from the shot of tequila after our first look to the rainy walk to the venue. He stood out there, getting soaked just to get that amazing shot. And AMAZING shots he got. He was not only incredibly open to what we wanted but also offered suggestions in a classy and inviting way. At one point, he told Dave to whisper something funny into my ear, an inside joke...and from that, we got some absolutely perfect shots. He was extremely in tune with us during the wedding-always checking in, making suggestions where he saw fit and half the time we didn’t even know he was shooting away! John captured the amazing thunderstorm pounding ceremony, the silly moments, the love filled speeches, the dance moves, the bride and groom being lifted into the air on chairs, the delicious food, the beautiful cakes, the photobooth, the ice cream truck, the sparkler send off-John was everywhere. When we looked at the photos, we just sat and cried. Our wedding was captured so perfectly through the lense of John Winters and we cannot reccommend him enough! He recorded every important and beautiful moment in his incredible photos; truly revealing all that we are to each other. -

Amazing! Fun & easy to work with.
Amazing! John is so easy to work with and really goes the extra mile. He captured our wedding for us on July 4, 2019 and we are beyond satisfied with the results. Just look through his website and you will immediately see the value in his work. It’s easy to feel comfortable around him, so he captures real moments and emotion in his photos. We got married on a boat and he was able to acclimate to the unusual venue and get some amazing photos of everyone who attended. We will treasure our day and these pictures forever. -

Passionate about getting the best shots!
John is passionate about getting the right shots. We liked his style of lighting and photography so much that we wanted him to take some liberties and creative pictures during our reception, and we couldn't be happier. As customers, my wife and I could tell, even before we booked him, that John truly loves what he does, and because of that we feel like we got the best results...We got sample pictures within 4 hours of him leaving our wedding!!
We had reached out to several photographers prior to talking with John, and his rates were above our initial budget, however, once seeing his work, and getting familiar with his style, choosing him as our photographer was a no-brainer!
John was prompt in responses, sometimes literally responding within 5 minutes at 11:30pm. He gave valuable feedback when we were deciding which options to go with. Even when not hearing from us for several months, we picked up our conversation where we left off. He also accepts multiple forms of payment which is convenient for the customer.
John came on time, stayed a little bit later than we paid for, and was flexible in dealing with our demands. Additionally he was patient and prepared, courteous and friendly.
We would 100% recommend John! -

We found John right here on Wedding Wire. We hired him to shoot our engagement and wedding photos. He was a total joy to work with! Our photos were everything I’d hoped for and more. They are technically beautiful but also have a sense of fun and most important to us, deep emotional content. John is a true artist! Between my wedding and my mom's wedding all the photos we received are everything AND MORE! I am constantly looking at our album because it is just that amazing, artistic and beautiful! Where do I even begin except by saying John is absolutely fantastic and I would recommend him to anyone and everyone! I researched lots of folks but was drawn to John's style and vision and knew I wanted him to be a part of our big day. I reached out and he got back with me almost immediately. Communication with John was a breeze and I always felt that my opinion and ideas mattered. John did bridal portraits with me and then photographed our wedding. He is so amiable and easy to work with. I felt very comfortable with his direction and trusted his expertise. Weddings are always filled with wavering decisions but choosing John as our photographer was one choice I never regretted. John was the first and best decision and hire we made when we started wedding planning. He was relaxed and easy to plan with leading up to the wedding. The day of, he made our wedding truly delightful. John was a lot of fun to work with, kept up with the flow of our crazy families, and made sure to catch everything that was important to us. When our photos came back, we were blown away. He somehow captured the spirit of our day entirely. We have every photo we specifically asked for, every planned moment. But the ones we love the most are of the spontaneous moments that we never could have planned for. The photos are serious and beautiful but also extremely playful and funny. I love his editing style, our photos feel honest and true to us.
I cannot recommend John Winters enough. Seriously, just hire him. -

Amber Sent on 09/11/2018John is the kindest person I have ever met in a photographer! after having to reschedule multiple time for our engagement shoot to only 72 hours before our wedding, he took everything in great stride. The shots we have received so far are impeccable. His artistic vision is very romantic and he is so easy to work with. Some photographers make pictures awkward but with him my now husband and I were laughing the whole time and I keep falling more in love with the pictures each one I get! John also knows how to deal with a bride who is very stressed out and having to call people over for photos. He is amazing and I will be using him again in the future!

John is an amazing person to work with! He is SO professional and you can really tell he loves what he does. He is very good at capturing those candid photos and getting you to laugh. My fiancé and I aren't from Austin so we decided to go with a local photographer, and we are so glad we did! The photos are beautifuly done and beautifuly edited. He is so easy to talk with, and he has such a bubbly personality that is prefect with this business. We would HIGHLY recommend John of any occasion, whether it is just a couple shoot, engagement shoot, or a wedding shoot. He is AMAZING and you wouldn't be disappointed at all!

Sunny Sent on 08/06/2018John Winters. What can I say about John Winters? Less than a year before my wedding, I learned that my fiancé and I would be moving from Texas to Colorado! I was totally thrown because I was so nervous about planning from afar. One person who made that process extremely easy was John. He listened to my concerns, offered suggestions, and generally walked me through the basics of the photography part so that I could understand what to expect and be less anxious. John is friendly, and super easy to work with! He makes you feel comfortable from the word “go.” I had numerous guests at my wedding approach me and ask about John and tell me how nice he was. John worked well with children, adults, and even made some adjustments during our shoot since my grandfather recently had a bad stroke and couldn’t stand or use his hands/arm in certain positions. John took the photos I requested and captured shots I couldn’t have dreamed about in my wildest fantasies. Not only was he a lot of fun but he was extremely professional. He was dressed appropriately, he answered calls and emails promptly, he was punctual, he even tried to accommodate a trip to take my bridal portraits (heartbroken that didn’t work out due to my dress being in alterations until the day we left town for the wedding! Haha) and he was ALL OVER the place taking pictures all night! Since posting my sneaks on social media, I’ve had several friends ask about my photographer and I’ve directed them all to his professional pages. If I did one thing right, it was choosing John Winters as our photographer and if he ever decides he wants to do maternity or newborn or family photos, I would hire him for everything forever!

Marisa Sent on 06/14/2018Wow... where do I begin? When searching for a wedding photographer, we came across John's page on Google and reached out, and boy are we so glad we did! John handled both the engagement photo shoot and day-of wedding photography, and I'm truly not exaggerating when I say these photos are some of the most breathtaking images I've ever seen. The way he captures the light in every photograph he takes is absolutely beautiful, and something not many wedding photographers do. After seeing the photos, countless family members reached out to me to compliment the photographer and ask for his name, which I think goes a long way towards explaining the quality of service he provided. From the very beginning, John was extremely responsive to emails and made sure both me and my now-husband were comfortable and relaxed throughout the whole process. He was easy to talk to and always provided clear instructions on how to pose for photos, which was helpful for us. On the day of, he arrived an hour early to photograph the venue, and stayed the entire night to ensure each moment was captured. Even better - when I awoke the next morning, I was surprised (and ECSTATIC) to find that he had sent over a handful of the photos of the night for me to look at and share. It was so touching that he was able to get those photos out so quickly, and I've never seen a photographer provide service so quickly. I truly cannot recommend him enough - thank you so much John!

He did amazing - we love our photos (seriously gorgeous)! He did incredible work with both daylight & night shots. John was great. I put together a list of photographers and my husband, who is an amateur photographer himself, picked John. Johns patiently answered all our questions as we prepared for the wedding. The wedding day was hectic, but we got some wonderful shots....despite the pouring rain that eliminated my sunset shots! I loved that he combined traditional with creative and artistic photos. -

John was such a joy to work with and even more talented artist! We had some demanding family members and through the whole process John was so patient and was so kind to everyone. He is so professional and was able to deliver such a calming effect at a high stress environment. He is so creative in his shots, we were blown away when we got all our pictures back. He has such great attention detail, it helped us enjoy our day without needing to worry about the details of photos! He is also incredibly flexible with timing and going with the flow. We could not recommend John anymore! If you're on the fence or not sure who to hire at all..John is your best man!
