Jacob Henry Mansion Estate is a ballroom in Joliet, Illinois, hosting weddings for couples in the greater Chicago area. Located two minutes from the Des Plaines River in Joliet, this venue is 45 minutes from Chicago’s O'Hare International Airport.
Facilities and Capacity
Couples can invite up to 275 guests to travel back in time with them to experience the beauty and splendor of the Jacob Henry Mansion Estate. The property hosts a number of buildings, such as The Old Central Church, formerly the most prominent congregation in Joliet. This building’s sparkling stained-glass windows and original pipe organ are historic touches for couples on their wedding day. Couple’s can also marry at the Jacob Henry Mansion, with hand-carved woodwork and vintage decor, or in the gardens under the pristine white trellis. Receptions take place in either of the latter two spaces or in the Victorian Ballroom, complete with cathedral ceilings and antique chandeliers.

History
The mansion was commissioned in 1873 by Jacob A. Henry as a private estate with 40 rooms. Each room contains a stately fireplace and the entire mansion is decorated with hand-carved oak and walnut. The main staircase is the central feature with a landing that boasts 119 hand carved octagonal spindles of burled walnut. In 1876 the mansion won the Architecture Award at the American Centennial Celebration in Philadelphia. Today, the estate is designated a National Historic Landmark and is one of the best examples of Renaissance Revival architecture in the state.

Beautiful Ceremony and Reception!
The Old Central Church is gorgeous and there are so many places on the grounds for great pictures! It was so easy to get married in the church, take photos before the ceremony and during the cocktail hour, and then move to the reception. I loved that my guests just had to drive to one place and then just move from room to room for each event as it’s all connected.
The food was fantastic, I actually ate so much of my dinner I was too stuffed for my dessert table! Overall, I would highly recommend this venue. My mom even mentioned that I looked so relaxed and happy in all my photos as the Jacob Henry had made it a stress free day.
The Perfect Ceremony!
She and our Reverend Jeremy, who we also hired through the Mansion, work great together and really know what they’re doing.
Amanda answered every single annoying email I threw at her and at all times made it clear she was on our side in all things. She was flexible with us too and was also upfront about all things, as far as costs and style goes. If I suddenly had a tacky idea she would save me from it and explain what might work better. Overall the venue was perfect and almost everything went off without a hitch. Amanda was perfect and was working hard throughout the night.
On a sadder note, something unfortunate was brought to our attention by some of our guests and family members, including my mother-in-law and sister. I have already brought this to the attention of Amanda and I told her I would be mentioning it here just to be clear to future couples. There were two bartenders at our bar and one of them, younger and blonde I believe, was consistently RUDE to my wedding guests. I heard about it from many different sources and when I brought it up to Amanda she was apologetic and understanding and disappointed to hear it, although not surprised. The bartenders rude behavior ranged from shortness to having an attitude. That is the only disappointment from the Jacob Henry.

Not to mention the fact that they entire staff is very respectful, and will drop everything to help and serve their clients -- no questions asked! Tucked away in the neighborhoods of Joliet, this is a true diamond in the rough that offers a historical, unique feel to your wedding reception. Do yourself a favor and do not overlook this place. It is gorgeous, the food is amazing, the staff are fantastic, and your guests will remember your perfect wedding day!
