She was pleasant, personable and really worked hard to create a ceremony that was both full of love and personalized to us. She went out of her way to incorporate both handfasting and knot-tying to create something truly unique, while also maintaining a few traditional elements that I wanted to include as well. Janice (Hitch Maine) was the perfect fit for our intimate, non-religious, queer Portland city hall ceremony!

We chose Janice because she works on a college campus, and both of us do too. We met with her several times over the months leading up to our ceremony. We selected one of Janice’s beautiful prepared elopement scripts, which fit our values and priorities very nicely. My wife and I wrote our own vows, and Janice kindly reviewed their tone and length for consistency in advance of the ceremony.

Janice arrived to the venue early, set up quietly, wrangled our witnesses, and promptly submitted the notarized license for processing.

Janice is kind, thoughtful, professional, warm and has a lovely voice! She was fully present and in the moment—my grandmother even really enjoyed their conversation and has continued to compliment how wonderful her delivery was. Everyone in the room cried and were still quoting bits of the ceremony hours later at dinner!

I cannot begin to say enough wonderful things about working with Janice. In late October, my now-husband and I decided to finally get married quickly, but we didn’t have witnesses at the time and we did not know where to begin to find someone to officiate our small elopement. After a few internet searches, we found “Hitch Maine,” and not only was the site informative and easy to navigate, but the ceremonies and packages she offered were exactly what we were looking for. Janice is such an amazing person to work with - engaging, interesting, and personable, and she was there with such helpful guidance every step of the way. After some last-minute changes in plans, Janice was understanding and extremely flexible with those changes. I also highly recommend the handmade bouquets that she personally makes! I had a few ideas about colors and flower types, but I let her run with her creativity, and it was the most beautiful bouquet of flowers. On the day of the ceremony, it was cold and windy, but she was a trooper and right on time. And because of her experience in theatre, she is a most excellent orator, which made the ceremony and vows all the more magnificent. Thank you, Janice, for being an integral part of our special day!

Janice officiated our elopement in Maine this summer. We met via Zoom and she was so helpful in providing template ceremonies and letting us adjust to personalize in advance. She brought such great energy to our day and ceremony as well. We loved working with her for our elopement and would 10/10 recommend!

Janice was great! She was knowledgeable on locations and time to hold our elopement. She had many different options to choose how we wanted our ceremony to go and also had options for cake, wine and witnesses if we didn’t have our own. I knew within 2 minutes of meeting Janice over the phone that she was the right officiant for our wedding. She has a sense of humor, offered a lot of compassion during the stressful vendor hire period, and clearly understood what we wanted out of a ceremony: a personalized speech with traditional but non-religious undertones.
