Wonderful Officiant

Janice was a joy to work with. She was friendly, flexible, responsive, and attentive to our needs and preferences. I couldn't wish for a better officiant for our little elopement.

A truly unique experience

Janice was great to work with. I received multiple compliments on the ceremony from my guests. She was pleasant, personable and really worked hard to create a ceremony that was both full of love and personalized to us. She went out of her way to incorporate both handfasting and knot-tying to create something truly unique, while also maintaining a few traditional elements that I wanted to include as well. Her delivery was excellent, and she spoke with brightness and emotion. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a unique and personalized ceremony.

Janice, a gem!

Janice (Hitch Maine) was the perfect fit for our intimate, non-religious, queer Portland city hall ceremony!

We chose Janice because she works on a college campus, and both of us do too. We met with her several times over the months leading up to our ceremony. We selected one of Janice’s beautiful prepared elopement scripts, which fit our values and priorities very nicely. My wife and I wrote our own vows, and Janice kindly reviewed their tone and length for consistency in advance of the ceremony.

Janice arrived to the venue early, set up quietly, wrangled our witnesses, and promptly submitted the notarized license for processing.

Janice is kind, thoughtful, professional, warm and has a lovely voice! She was fully present and in the moment—my grandmother even really enjoyed their conversation and has continued to compliment how wonderful her delivery was. Everyone in the room cried and were still quoting bits of the ceremony hours later at dinner!

If you’re queer and looking for written validation, let this be it! We’re two women. Queers (and everyone else), hire Janice!

Fantastic Experience

Janice was so great to work with - we opted for an intimate get together with our closest family members, and she made the process much easier! She helped paint a clearer picture on what our ceremony could look like over Zoom calls + emails, and even assisted in setting up chairs on site the day of! I couldn't have asked for better help and she made a great day even greater for the both of us!

Sweet Simple Ceremony in Maine!

I cannot begin to say enough wonderful things about working with Janice. In late October, my now-husband and I decided to finally get married quickly, but we didn’t have witnesses at the time and we did not know where to begin to find someone to officiate our small elopement. After a few internet searches, we found “Hitch Maine,” and not only was the site informative and easy to navigate, but the ceremonies and packages she offered were exactly what we were looking for. Janice is such an amazing person to work with - engaging, interesting, and personable, and she was there with such helpful guidance every step of the way. After some last-minute changes in plans, Janice was understanding and extremely flexible with those changes. I also highly recommend the handmade bouquets that she personally makes! I had a few ideas about colors and flower types, but I let her run with her creativity, and it was the most beautiful bouquet of flowers. On the day of the ceremony, it was cold and windy, but she was a trooper and right on time. And because of her experience in theatre, she is a most excellent orator, which made the ceremony and vows all the more magnificent. Thank you, Janice, for being an integral part of our special day!

Janice is awesome! She was professional, timely, and very enjoyable to speak with! She called me the first day I reached out to her. Janice was fantastic, flexible and so great to work with!

Janice officiated our elopement in Maine this summer. We met via Zoom and she was so helpful in providing template ceremonies and letting us adjust to personalize in advance. She brought such great energy to our day and ceremony as well. We loved working with her for our elopement and would 10/10 recommend!

Elopement near the water

Janice was great! She was knowledgeable on locations and time to hold our elopement. She had many different options to choose how we wanted our ceremony to go and also had options for cake, wine and witnesses if we didn’t have our own. Two lights state park was a perfect location to me and my now husband. The ceremony went very smooth and she was very sweet. I highly recommend her services to everyone.

Professional and eloquent officiant wows crowd

I knew within 2 minutes of meeting Janice over the phone that she was the right officiant for our wedding. She has a sense of humor, offered a lot of compassion during the stressful vendor hire period, and clearly understood what we wanted out of a ceremony: a personalized speech with traditional but non-religious undertones. She offered to look over our handwritten vows and work with our family during a rehearsal ceremony. She even put up with my nervous, jokester dad (thank you, Janice!). At the end of our ceremony, many guests approached me and asked where I had found our officiant because she had blown everyone away. I will be recommending Janice's services to everyone I come across going forward.

Ocean side elopement

In need of a last minute elopement on a holiday weekend Janice was amazing! She not only pulled it off with very limited time but gave me the ability to customize our experience and made for a stress free wedding of my dreams! Thank you Janice!

Wonderful!

Janice was wonderful to work with! We changed our plans several times and she was flexible and understanding. From our first conversation, we knew she was professional and the right person for our small elopement ceremony. She provided options and helped us find the right words for the ceremony and vows. She took the time to talk with us and get to know us in the early planing stages. On the day of the ceremony, she was was prompt and helped us remember little things that we would have forgotten. Janice performed our wedding ceremony in July 2021. I thought it would be difficult planning a destination wedding and not being able to meet with our officiant in person; however, Janice put all our concerns at ease. She was available whenever we had questions or concerns, promptly replied to emails, spent as much time as needed on the phone with us, and helped personalize the ceremony. Janice was an absolute delight to work with and I received many compliments from our guests. I highly recommend her!

Janice made our wedding so special!

Working with Janice was exactly what I was looking for- personal, professional, easy, and genuine. Although our original wedding plans were changed due to COVID, Janice helped make our wedding perfect. We were able to meet and discuss our specifics over zoom and she helped us to craft a perfect ceremony that included our kids and our personalized vows. I felt her love come through in our ceremony and that made it so special. Janice was very helpful in suggesting and finding a sight for us (since we were traveling from out of state) and even brought help to hold our tablet to allow our family to zoom in. We can't say enough wonderful things about Janice! From our first call to the filing of our marriage certificate, Janice was knowledgeable, professional, patient - really a joy to work with. She truly understood what we were looking for in a ceremony, weaving in anecdotes about our relationship to make it personal but not cheesy. And her delivery was just absolutely perfect! Of course, we were disappointed when the pandemic ruined our original plans - but our COVID wedding turned out better than we could have ever imagined and a big reason for that is Janice. Fantastic Officiant

Janice was amazing to work with - she helped us put together the ceremony and wrote a beautiful address. Planning (& replanning) a covid wedding/elopement can be a bit stressful, and once I found Janice I knew we were in good hands for the ceremony. She was also incredible flexible when we moved up our weekday wedding by a day to avoid a storm! Highly recommend having Janice be part of your special day!

we could not have been happier with Janice and the services provided by Hitch Maine!

We found Janice last minute as we arrived in Maine to elope. While we hired her to officiate she helped us plan the whole thing and made our experience so easy and enjoyable. She was able to suggest venues, provide ceremony options and even provide the witnesses. She accommodated a couple of last minute changes and helped us obtain documents in record breaking time. While Jack and I were in Maine alone for the ceremony, Janice made us feel like we were among friends. She was a complete pro and a lovely part of our wedding. Serendipity I think!

Perfect in every way!

Contacted Janice and scheduled a ZOOM meeting. Got acquainted and discussed the type of wedding we wanted. We gave her some dates and she was flexible and accommodating to our location. She gave us some good resources to plan our Ceremony. When the day came, she was right on time. She was flexible and patient while we prepared. Just Perfect

After having to scramble at the last minute to find an officiant (4 days before our wedding date), Janice was super responsive, flexible, and accommodating. She worked with us to create a custom ceremony, blending some samples she provided with words and sentiments that were meaningful to us as a couple. Janice was an amazing officiant for our DIY wedding. She encouraged us to understand what we wanted in a ceremony and then provided us with the means to achieve it. Through her guidance and flexibility, we were able to have exactly the type of ceremony we wanted - despite not at first knowing what we truly wanted! She orchestrated the rehearsal and ceremony beautifully. She is a wonderful speaker (you can tell as soon as you speak to her) who delivered our ceremony in perfect fashion. We also sincerely appreciated all her help with the legal aspects of getting married as well! Do not hesitate to hire Janice; she is a talented officiant and also an all around great person.

I can't say enough nice things about Janice's performance. We were visiting Portland, Maine for the first time so we knew very little about it. Janice provided options not only for our wedding, but also our trip. We were very pleased with her suggestions. Janice couldn't have been more patience with us either. Getting married in Portland was once a whimsical idea, but something we wanted to happen--Janice was there every step of the way. Janice even grab a bouquet for me to give to my fiancee, now wife. If you're looking to do what we did, go with Janice!!!

My husband and I had Janice officiate our small, backyard wedding on September 10th. We recommend her without hesitation! After reaching out to her by email and confirming she was available that day, she scheduled a phone call to get to know us (we talked about how we met, how long we’ve been together, what our wedding was going to be like, etc.) During the call I could tell that she had a lovely speaking voice (important for an officiant!), and on the wedding day I was almost overcome with her delivery of our ceremony as it was happening. The perfect speed, volume, phrasing...it was just wonderful. Pertaining to things leading up to the wedding and afterwards she was extremely helpful (e.g. sending us a collection of sample ceremonies that we used as templates to create our ceremony), reliable and thorough (e.g. fast communication via email, completing and filing the marriage license after the ceremony, etc.). Janice definitely was an essential part of what made our day so special.

My husband and I are from Texas and eloped in Maine. Janice was so kind and helpful when my husband came to her with ideas for the ceremony (he wrote it himself) and checked in on us several times before the wedding. She also helped us find a beautiful location to get married and made the trek down some jagged boulders for our ceremony. She has a very warm personality and made us feel very comfortable throughout the entire process. 10/10 would recommend!

You couldn't ask for a better officiant on your special day.

Janice was impeccable in presentation and professionalism, but more importantly, she's kind, warm, and has a great sense of humor.

She helped plan our elopement, "round out" our wedding vows via email in the weeks prior, and secured the necessary witnesses for the ceremony. All part of her awesome and easy packages.

She's also the most efficient officiant I've met, responding promptly with questions, and arriving early to the ceremony.

Janice was absolutely wonderful to deal with! I surprised my husband with a 20 year vow renewal ceremony on the beach and she did everything she could to help make it perfect! There is no one who could have created a more beautiful and appropriate ceremony for us that the one she did! I can't say enough about how wonderful she is or what a great job she did! Janice was the most accommodating and gracious individual to perform our wedding after we had planned it one weekend and then had to reschedule for the next. Janice officiated our intimate wedding in March 2017. She was incredibly helpful as we wrote our ceremony, providing templates and ideas for us to start with, and brainstorming about a ring-warming ceremony we wanted included.

She moved her schedule around to meet up with us the day before ceremony, as we were coming in from out of town. And she may or may not have broken traffic laws when an unexpected traffic jam on the highway nearly kept her from making it to the ceremony.

Janice was a hit with our families and was a calming presence in what could have been an anxious moment right before the ceremony.

I'm so happy we found Janice, and I can't recommend Hitch Maine enough!

Where do I start? Well first of all, we decided to elope and didn't know how! Janice understood, and she was extremely prepared to take on the challenge of planning our elopement in only TWO weeks! Janice was just amazing. She stood by us, and kept in contact the entire time, even when we had to change things many times over. She even stood outside with us in the cold weather in Maine on the froze lake side. It was beautiful!
On the way to the ceremony Janice said she saw a bald eagle and what a wonderful sign that was! After the wedding when we went to leave church bells went off. It was amazing.
Thank you, Janice for the professional and personal touch. You made our day very special and I would highly recommend you. You were phenomenal! I just can't say enough good!

Janice was amazing! My fiancé and I decided to elope a week before we wanted the ceremony. Janice responded to us very quickly even though she was on a family vacation! She kept us updated throughout the process, followed through on everything she said she would do, helped us choose our vows and was just an amazing resource during a chaotic time.

When it came to the actual ceremony, Janice has a wonderful speaking voice! Her officiating of our wedding was more than I even hoped for!

Service was exactly what we were looking for in our short, sweet, and very casual elopement in Maine. Janice was very professional and a super nice person who put us both at ease. She offered to assist us wherever she could and provided us with samples of vows as well as options for ceremony locations. The two witnesses she provided were also great and took very nice pictures for us. They even brought treats for our dog. We couldn't be happier in our choice of a wedding officiant. Highly recommended!!!

Hitch Maine was a PERFECT solution to our elopement. We wanted an intimate ceremony without all the trappings and hassle of a huge wedding to plan. Niki made our elopement a truly wonderful experience. Planning a destination wedding can be daunting, but Niki's helpfulness and guidance put our minds at ease. Niki was simply fantastic! Our wedding/elopement was a destination wedding and we couldn't have asked for more in terms of communication and helpfulness from Niki. From recommending places for our outdoor ceremony to responding promptly to emails to talking on the phone and meeting in person, Niki showed genuine interest in our story and getting to know us so that she could craft a ceremony that fit us best. Despite the fact that we didn't really know what we wanted, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Niki somehow knew what we were looking for and played a huge role in making our day even more magical. When the time comes to renew our vows, we really hope that Niki is still working for Hitch Maine! We would (without a doubt) recommend their services as they clearly do what they do because they love it!!!

Nicole allowed us to create our own ceremony while giving examples that we could incorporate into it . She attended our rehersal and was very detail oriented. On my wedding day she was amazing. We were outside in a rain and thunder/lightening storm. She didn't skip a beat. She used humor throughout the ceremony which suited us, the crowd, and the situation. I would recommend her.

We could not have picked a more perfect officiant for our big day! Janice was amazing and like part of the family. My sister in law is a wedding photographer out of Boston and told us that Janice performed the best ceremony she had ever seen! We found Janice through a google search and WeddingWire. From the beginning she was responsive, warm, and completely accommodating. We really had no idea what we were doing and she really helped us figure out the perfect ceremony for us. She has a knack for that hard-to-find balance of recommending 'appropriate' ceremony procedures with creating a unique event that suits the couple. After filling out a little questionnaire and meeting with us once (although she would have met with us more if we had wanted to)- she was able to incorporate so many wonderful aspects of my husband and I- the ceremony truly was custom made for us. It was so special. Janice has an incredible talent for making people feel at ease and getting to the heart of what we wanted. I couldn't recommend her more- she was fabulous.

Janice officiated our outdoor ceremony and we arranged it long distance (Chicago to Maine). She made everything easy and we felt totally comfortable and confident that it would all go well. She was always available for advice and questions. During our rehearsal she was patient and kind and made sure we were all set. Most importantly she made sure that we got everything we wanted and that everyone involved was comfortable. The day of the ceremony she came early and mingled with our guests and was was thoroughly charming.

The ceremony itself was wonderful. Our guests remarked on what a fantastic job Janice did. She spoke with feeling and warmth and made each moment special for us and our guests. Our wedding was truly perfect and Janice was a big part of that.

From the moment we met Janice, we knew that she was the perfect person to perform our wedding ceremony. She took so much interest in who we are as people and what led us to fall in love that I felt like I was talking to a friend, not someone who I'd be hiring as an officiant! I knew immediately that she was not just a person who performs wedding as job, but that she does it because she loves it. And trust me, that shines through when she performs a ceremony.

While some couples want a family member or friend to become ordained to perform their ceremony, I would recommend that you consider how helpful it is to have someone who has the experience and knowledge to provide a flawless ceremony. We were worried about picking an officiant online, but had no choice since it was a destination wedding. We couldn't have picked a more perfect officiant! Janice was so warm and helpful over the phone and email with helping us write our ceremony. She offered her expert opinions in areas, but allowed us to choose whatever we wanted. On the big day (and the rehearsal the night before) she had such an accepting and calming demeanor, which helped ease our butterflies. I cannot recommend her enough for people to use as an officiant. If I could give her 10 stars I would.

Janice was absolutely wonderful! My *now* husband and I met with her a few months before the wedding, and left knowing that we were in such good hands. Janice was an absolute pleasure to work with.
We needed a last minute civil ceremony that was still special and memorable. Janice recommended locations, helped us consider vows, and even provided me with the perfect bouquet. We didn't have witnesses so Janice was able to provide those too.

I can't say enough good things about Janice. My husband and I got married on the beach in June 2012. Leading up to the ceremony Janice was great. She gave us examples of different types of ceremonies, and then told us to mix and match if we wanted to. We wrote our own based on her templates and she gave us some helpful tips for making it even better. We planned the whole event from out of town so we met Janice at the rehersal. She was wonderful, upbeat, and truly excited to perform our wedding ceremony. She made sure we all knew exactly what we were supposed to do at the ceremony and was a lot of fun to work with. On the day of the ceremony it was pouring rain out with hurricane spead winds. The wind was so bad that most of our guests umbrellas did not survive the entire ceremony. Janice was absolutely wonderful and certainly went above and beyond. By the time the ceremony started Janice was already soaking wet from going back and forth between my husband and I, yet she was still upbeat and reassuring us that it would still be a wonderful ceremony despite our doubts. She preformed the ceremony exactly as we had written it while managing to be heard over the storm and moving it right along so our guests didn't have to stand outside for too long. Our marriage license was waiting for us by the time we got back from our honeymoon as she filed the paperwork very quickly. My husband and I are very grateful that we picked Janice to officiate our ceremony and I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone better than her to do yours.

I really can’t say enough about Janice. She was absolutely perfect from beginning to end. She was there to walk us through every step of the wedding planning process and then offered a calming voice and personal feel to the actual ceremony. It’s easy to forget about the actual wedding ceremony amongst all the excitement of planning the reception, but Janice kept us on task and gently walked us through the process without making it seem overwhelming. She was incredibly good at keeping everyone on task at the rehearsal as well, making sure that everyone knew what they were doing and where they were going. She is professional, eloquent, kind, and organized. Having someone join you in marriage is a very personal thing. One of the other reviews said it well, Janice is like a member of the family during the wedding planning process and ceremony. I couldn’t have wished for anyone better to join me in marriage.

Janice is a truly amazing person. Within 30-sec of our initial phone call, I knew she was going to be our Officiant. Both her voice and temperament are ideal for a wedding ceremony of any kind. She was charming, very patient and extremely punctual.

When my wife and I were planning our wedding, we had a lot of expectations of our Officiant. During the planning phase, we needed someone that would listen to our goals, offer quality advice and help organize our ceremony. Then, during our rehearsal and wedding day, we needed a leader to calmly yet efficiently direct people (people who primarily just want to have fun). We also needed someone with a delicate touch; someone that makes you feel at ease. There are a lot of emotions swirling during a wedding and it's important to feel comfortable with the person leading your way.

Janice met all these expectations and more. Not to mention she officiated a beautiful ceremony. During the short time we spent with Janice, she felt like a temporary addition to our family. Go with Janice, you'll be happy you did.

Janice was amazing! We had plenty of meetings with her and each time we got everything we needed done. She was very professional and extremely flexible. At one point I was overwhelmed and backed out of a meeting, minutes before. She understood that planning the wedding was stressful and instead of being upset with us, she just scheduled us another meeting. She was very patient with my husband's groomsmen at the rehearsal, since they all hadn't seen eachother in a while and only wanted to talk and goof around. She was also very open and respectful of our religious needs and different aspects we wanted in the ceremony. On the day of the wedding she looked very professional and preformed just as well! Portland elopement

We were married in Portland, Maine, and Janice was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. She was extremely responsive, answered every question we had, and made us feel completely at ease. Janice gave me a few examples of ceremonies and I was able to select one of her choices while also including a little bit of my own pieces. She also took care of submitting our marriage license after the ceremony, which made the entire experience truly seamless.

I worked with Niki and she was awesome- so sweet and kind and truly made the ceremony special. I loved how flexible she was in letting us pick what components of the ceremony we did and did not want. Her input really made the ceremony beautiful and I am so grateful we picked a good vendor!!

Niki served as the officiant for our same-sex marriage in Portland, ME. Although she was initially a little difficult to touch base with via email (we were planning our event from afar), she eventually came through and was able to meet with us before our wedding and attend an informal rehearsal with only last-minute notice.

She worked with a second officiant (whom she didn't meet until the day before the wedding!) and was wonderful in her flexibility, calmness and sense of humor. We so appreciated her willingness to play whatever role we needed her to play, and she was more than we could have hoped for for the low fee she charged. I would definitely recommend Niki and Hitch Maine again!
