Lorraine Franklin runs an affair by the lake as if she is a wedding planner. She even makes a homemade brunch for us the morning of the wedding. If you have your wedding here you will not need to hire somebody to coordinate. From the beginning she was kind flexible and has an amazing attention to detail. The property is gorgeous you cannot find a better view of Lake Champlain! I could not be happier with where I chose to have my wedding

An Affair by the Lake is like having a wedding coordinator and venue all in one. There is so much attention to detail and so much concern for what the couple wants to see on their day. I really felt like Lorraine personally cared about us and what our unique style is. I really didn't have to prompt them for reminders. Everything that could be thought of was presented to us in a timely manner and over the course of the year so as not to overwhelm us.

The beautiful setting was transformed into something completely unique to us and shied away from the rustic look that we wanted to avoid. Lorraine helped us achieve our contemporary, simple elegance look that blended nicely into the Vermont backdrop but didn't follow the cookie cutter rustic wedding that is associated with Vermont (although she nails that look if desired).

I loved being able to use the venue from Friday through Sunday. It allowed my wedding party to relax and enjoy getting ready the morning of the wedding having spent the night at the venue. It also allowed my groom and I an official night together and morning after since we are not taking our honeymoon right away. Lorraine brings special touches like breakfasts and snacks and surprises for the couple.

From the moment my fiance-turned-husband and I met with the proprietors, I knew we were in good hands. We live in New York, so we had to place a lot of trust in our vendors while planning our out-of-state wedding. This mother and daughter duo is truly a dream team. They operate their business with the utmost professionalism and grace under pressure, all the while creating a very warm and inviting atmosphere. The natural beauty of the venue speaks for itself and the quiet elegance of the Cottonwood House only adds to its charm!

Throughout every stage of planning, Lorraine and Cheri helped keep us organized and on task. They helped facilitate site visits with vendors and were able to coordinate with them while we were in New York. They were even kind enough to invite us to their home for a planning session.

The Cottonwood House itself is gorgeous. It is beautifully furnished with a rustic barn and a gazebo overlooking Lake Champlain. Lorraine and Cheri even offered some of their own decorations to help put the finishing touches on our wedding day. We would both highly recommend An Affair by the Lake to anyone looking for the perfect Vermont wedding or any family affair. We can’t wait to go back and visit!
