This guy never delivers the albums. Check out the reviews on Yelp. Three couples never got their promised albums after paying for them. He wouldn't return calls or emails. Not professional at all! And one reviewer called him a scam artist.
BEWARE!

We were married in May of 2008 and have yet to receive our album. It has been about 6 months from when I have last heard for him. He was great to work with up until the wedding but I expect that same service after the wedding until we get our deliverables. I constantly had to remind him to send our proofs and we did not get them for quite some time. I am getting stressed and worried and hope that the quality of work will be there for the amount of money that I paid. We will probably be celebrating our 2nd anniversary without an album to look at to cherish our memories. I am truly sad and disappointed with all the stress trying to chase after Gene and would pick another photographer in a heartbeat.

I will start off by saying that I loved working with Gene up until and throughout our wedding. He brings out a charm in you as a photographer that transfers to your photos. All of our photos are beautiful and we couldn't be happier with the end result.

That being said, I believe that offering a service should not stop at the day of the event or the camera lens. Post our wedding, we saw a drop off in both service and professionalism, to levels that I found unacceptable. We did receive some additional deliverables for our understanding and patience. But I would have traded them in a heartbeat to have avoided the incremental stress entirely.

I was married on 5/25/08. As of 3/9/10 I have all promised deliverables from my wedding in hand.

We are very fortunate to have Gene shot our wedding! As mentioned here and as you will find from other review sites, Gene is truly a one of a kind wedding photographer. We knew we will be in good hands after our first meeting. He’s very personable, perceptive, and truly pays attention to the details. We were completely at ease to give him complete freedom to work his magic. The images we got back captured our day beautifully, they were lyrical and authentic. Through the wedding planning process, I was beginning to feel that the wedding industry has a tendency to turn intimate celebration into extravagantly staged events, and was very worried about the wedding not reflect our true selves. After perusing through our photos, we see us, our family and friends as who we all are, the day is still alive and real in our minds eyes. It takes a lot to create provocative images, but it takes a special kind of sensitively to capture the individual spirits of the day.

gene's work is absolutely breathtaking. it's amazing how he was able to capture emotions and movement so naturally through still images. after meeting with several talented photographers, we decided to go with gene for his personality and final product. he was was soooo easy to work with and was well worth the price tag. he was fun and our family and friends loved him, too! we've gotten so many phone calls and emails complimenting his work! gene definitely lives up to his many many rave reviews.

If you can afford Gene Higa, hire him immediately! He does destination weddings, but will also travel to anywhere in the country to accomodate your needs. We had two weddings - one in Maui, HI and a reception in Albany, NY. He agreed to come to both. He was working on building his portfolio, so he worked within our budget and we both got something from the partnership. Gene has an artistic, photojournalistic approach to his wedding photography. You will not get any boring shots from his work. He was incredible - I was honored to have Gene as a guest at our wedding. He's quick, and smart and so talented. I highly recommend him, and can't imagine there is anyone better out there!
