Additional Answers & Advice:
Are you self taught photographers?
No, we are not. We both have fine arts degrees, Tera's is in photography. After graduating from college, she worked with a professional commercial photographer before branching out on her own. Steve got his start in photography taking photo classes while pursuing his studies in illustration and printmaking. Steve also has a masters certificate in graphic design with minor in digital photography. We met in a photo-printmaking class. That being said, we have never stopped learning about photography and are self taught digital SLR photographers. Though the basic science is still the same, the technology involved with photography is ever changing and keeping up with it is one of the reasons we love this medium. Our background in film, printmaking and the fine arts give us an edge over photographers who have only ever shot digital. It has helped to develop and train our eye for composition and exposure. Tera's love of historic printing processes also influences her post processing techniques, which is one of the reasons our fine art prints are so popular with our clients. Why is it important to have two photographers? Two photographers provide you with two professionals taking high quality photographs. While one photographer can not be in two places at the same time, two photographers can. We split up to cover the groom and his groomsmen before the wedding at the same time as the bride and her bridesmaids are getting ready. While Tera sticks with the bride until she makes her entrance, Steve finishes up with the guys then heads into the ceremony site to capture the guests arriving, the church interior, decoration details and does portraits of special guests as they mingle and wait. At the ceremony, we spread out to provide the best coverage of the wedding itself. At the reception, we work together to cover all of the tables and special moments. While Tera focuses on the bride and groom's entrance, cake cutting, bouquet toss and first dances, Steve captures supplementary tradition images as well as focuses on the guests and getting capturing those priceless things that happen that the bride and groom might miss. You wedding day will be a blur. Having two professionals with the ability to capture spectacular images in any lighting condition is priceless. (Remember those blurry shots Uncle Bob took at your graduation party?) These are memories that you do not want to miss out on! I read that you shoot in RAW. What does that mean? Both of us shoot almost all of your wedding images in RAW, which is an image file format. All of the data from the scene we are shooting is captured and recorded into the file when we press the shutter. When we get back to our studio, we can not simply download the photos and print them out. The RAW images are exactly that - raw. We go through each and every image and custom develop it digitally. We can adjust the exposure, white balance, color, blacks, clarity and the list goes on. The adjustments can be subtle to dramatic - all done without compromising the quality of the image. This type of post processing is impossible to do with the type of photo file that comes from a standard camera. When all of our adjustments have been made and we are happy with the image, we save it as a JPEG so that it can be printed at the lab or viewed from your computer at home. |
