Ron Lewis is a San Francisco based photojournalist who frequently contributes to local newspapers, the Associated Press and international photo agencies. A native of California, Lewis grew up in the Sierra Nevada Foothills historical gold rush community of Auburn. He spent several years working for the U.S Forest Service as a Tahoe Hotshot firefighter and then attended San Francisco State's journalism program. After earning his bachelors of arts in Journalism and finishing two newspaper internships, one in Plano, Texas, and another at the Toledo Blade, Lewis was fortunate enough to become a staff photographer for the Alameda Newspaper Group (now known as the Bay Area Newspaper Group). "Landing a staff job in this crowded and beat up print news business ain't an easy task," says Lewis, "i'm very lucky to shoot daily events, professional sports, dog shows, concerts, wildfires, celebrities, criminals and politicians." Since 1998, Lewis has been contributing daily news photos to the Oakland Tribune, Tri Valley Herald, The Hayward Daily Review, The San Mateo County Times, The Contra Costa Times, The San Jose Mercury News & several other locals. Recently, Lewis was offered a buyout from financially troubled Bay Area News Group. He now actively freelances for BANG, the AP and several agencies. His photos have been published in many National newspapers including the New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post, Seattle Times, San Francisco Chronicle, the Dallas Morning News and the Boston Globe. His photos have also appeared in several National and International magazines. Lewis lives with his wife Meagan and 17-year-old cat Kalamity in San Francisco's Mission District.
