Additional Questions and Answers
You’re Wedding Consultant: 13 Questions to ask:
Strongly consider handing the planning baton to a wedding consultant if a) neither you nor your families have time to plan your wedding; b) neither you nor your families have any desire to plan your wedding; c) you're planning a wedding out of town; or d) you simply prefer -- and can afford -- professional help. They'll do the legwork, hire vendors, negotiate contracts, and may even cut you some money-saving deals.
1. Will the consultant commit to your budget and not push you in the direction of things you simply can't afford?Orlando Events by Design works with any budget. Our list of sites and vendors offers every bride all the options she needs to stay with in her budget. Everyone has a limit of what they can afford and we work hard to stay where you need to be.
2. Will the consultant devise a master plan mapping out all the little details, from announcement to zebra-striped decor? (This will clue you in to organizational prowess and a willingness to keep you in the loop on every matter imaginable.) Orlando Events by Design provides you will a specifically dated time line that covers every detail.
3. Can the consultant name the best and most original locations in your area (that would be suitable to your wedding size, style, and budget)? Trina Fard owner of Orlando Events by Design has been a resident of Orlando since 1964. She has grown up here and raised a family here. She has been in business since 1995 and over the years has learned and worked with every beautiful location Orlando has to offer.
4. Is the consultant familiar with the best florists, photographers, caterers, bands, and DJs in your price range? Can he/she explain their strongpoints to you briefly? (Ask yourself: Does the consultant seem both knowledgeable and passionate?)Trina has been in business since 1995. She worked with in the hotel industry for 12 years before that handling all the social occasions held there. With all this experience and exposure she has worked with most every well established wedding professional. The finest cake designers, florists, photographers, dj’s and more. This business is her life. Nothing brings her more pleasure than the smiles on the bride and groom’s faces the day of their most precious day.
5. Can the consultant score you some discounts with any vendors? (Consultants bring volume to favored vendors; often they'll reciprocate by slashing prices or throwing in extras.) Some of our proffered vendors do offer discounts or a free gift such as a photographer may offer a free engagement portrait since they were referred by us. However we do not require this as we do not want our couples limited by this. We feel you deserve the very best and some just feel their work and prices are good enough they do not need to.
6. Will the consultant read over the vendor contracts for you? What are some common traps to look out for?Yes! This is a big part of our job and we work hard to protect you. Some traps to look for would be cancellation policy, confirming who will be working that day and who would cover the event for the professional in case of an emergency.
7. Can the consultant create a timeline that tells everyone involved in the planning process -- vendors, members of the wedding party, bride/groom, and families -- what to do and when to do it? How will she/he make sure that everyone sticks to the schedule? Yes! Once your event and date are confirmed with us we provide a specifically dated time line to the bride, the groom, the bestman and the maid of honor. A planning program for professionals that we use lets of keep on top of each detail.
8. Will the consultant handle the invitations, from wording and ordering to the addressing and mailing? Yes! Actually we offer a selection of thousands of beautiful name brand invitations at a 30% discount. We sit with you to place the ordering to ensure the wording and layout are correct.
9. Can the consultant counsel you on etiquette matters and alert you to hot trends on the wedding horizon? Yes! We are a member of the Association of Bridal ConsultantsAssociation of Bridal Consultants. This association provides information on wedding trends, etiquette and seminars for the professional to attend to improve our business year after year.
10. Will the consultant coordinate delivery, arrival, and setup times with photographer, florist, musicians, caterer/banquet manager, etc.? Yes. A week before the wedding a final event resume is put together and either emailed or faxed to every vendor participating in the day. Our cell phone is given in emergency and a complete timeline is given for delivery, set up, event schedule and breakdown.
11. For the day of the wedding, will the consultant be willing to oversee the entire event by supervising vendors, troubleshooting emergencies, and soothing nerves? Can she/he share any anecdotes that required performing above and beyond the call of duty? Yes! This is the biggest reason to have a wedding consultant and we enjoy being there in the thick of things watching it all come together and seeing the bride, groom and guests enjoying the day.
12. Will the consultant be willing to step in as your advocate, conveying your visions and desires to vendors when you don't feel up to the task? Yes! We especially like to be present when you meet with the caterer or hotel staff to discuss menu, reception décor and set up. Most couples are fine meeting with the vendors on their own but we will be there when needed. It is never a problem for us to attend every vendor meeting if needed.
13. Will the consultant help plan and book your honeymoon? Yes! We can if needed. We work with some wonderful travel planners as well who can take excellent care of your every need.
Remember that the consultant should have plenty of questions for you too, in an effort to determine your wishes, needs, level of maintenance, budget, scope of imagination, and more. You're both trying to assess each other and how well you'll work together. The consultant will probably initiate discussions -- take this time to consider manner, personality, confidence, warmth, whatever you're looking for. Whomever you enlist, do not hire a consultant who doesn't want to listen, is bossy, tries to convince you of what's best for you, critiques your ideas, has no references, and won't sign a written agreement.
Trina Fard and Orlando Events by Design takes pride in the fact that we value your opinions and dreams. It is after all your special day. Every wedding is as different and unique as the couple. We think you deserve to have just what you both dream of and it is our job to assist both of you in putting it together. We are always happy to offer gentle suggestions but in the end the choice is always yours.

Tips and Advice
Getting Your Marriage License…
The legal age for marriage is 18 years of age. Couples under the age of 18 must have parental consent. Both the Bride and Groom must apply for and sign the license together, which is valid for 60 days. The county will ask the couple present a valid passport or state driver license, as well as their social security numbers. Residency or blood tests are not required. Previously married couples are asked to submit the date of divorce or death. If the marriage ended within the past 30 days, a certified copy of the divorce decree or death certificate is required.
Fees range $88.50 to $113.50, depending upon which court house you visit. A discount of $32.50 is offered to Florida residents who complete state sanctioned premarital counseling. Payment may be made with cash, money order, Visa or Master Card. No personal checks are accepted.
There is a three day waiting period to obtain the license for Florida residents only. Florida residents who wish to avoid the three day waiting period must register and complete a four-hour state sanctioned marriage preparation course prior to obtaining the marriage license. If the couple obtains counseling, the filing fee will be reduced by $32.50 and there is no waiting period.
Couples who reside in another state or country, and come to Florida to get married, are exempt from this three day waiting period provision. There is no discount on the fee.
Many officiates and ceremony sites require prior interview and/or counseling sessions with the Bride and Groom. In this case, a certificate can be obtained from the officiate stating the required meetings have occurred. Learn more about this from your officiate. There are a number of other qualified counseling providers, as well as online self-study courses available, although it is first best to ask your county court house for a list of their registered course providers.
Orlando Events strives to provide the most current and accurate information with regard to licensing. Please confirm all details with the local bureau.
