Specialties

I am an artist, and wedding photography is my passion.
I specialize in contemporary portraiture and what I like to call intimate photojournalism.

History

Since 1999 I have been shooting weddings and family portraiture.
In January of 2005, James Mueller Photography was established.
I live with my lovely fiance Erika Mapes and our super-cute studio mascot Lola, in Laurel Heights, San Francisco.  You can find me at TheKnot.com, TheWeddingChannel.com, and Yelp.  I am a preferred vendor at Clos LaChance winery in the South Bay, Garre Winery in the Livermore Valley, and Vintner’s Inn in Napa.
Make sure to check out my Blog to see examples of my new full page slideshow presentations.
I look forward to hearing from you!

-James.

Endorsements
I have worked with James ones so far this year, and it was simply great. His style is very similar to mine -- unobtrusive and natural. I was also very impressed about his level of professionalism and energy... James is fun and easy to work with, and he is very respectful of other vendors and anybody who is involved in the wedding... I hope we get to work together many times in the future!
We have had the pleasure to work along side James Mueller Photography at many weddings. He is an expert in his field and delivers wonderful work to his clients!
James is a pleasure to work with! He seems to really capture the fun and excitement of a wedding in a relaxed atmosphere, which is a testament to his personality and working relationship with each bride and groom.
Well, what can I say? James is my very favorite photographer ever! His work is seamless, professional and the clients love him. Being a facility; I need vendors who work well with the client but also who also work well with the venue; and James is all about that! I just wish I could work with him more!
James has that rare talent/instinct of knowing how to handle people under the time pressures of a wedding, which helps him get the job done. I enjoy working with other passionate people like James. Our creativity feeds off each other. When we have the pleasure of working together, we work our butts off, laugh alot and have a fabulous time.

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
Black and white photography was my specialty in the film days, so I always have a space in my heart for sepia tone effects and other artistic techniques. Always to enhance an image, never to distract. I am an expert retoucher as well, please ask to see some before and after images.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
I am comfortable with softlight, candlelight, rainy-day light, you name it. Challenging situations provide an opportunity to show depth of experience.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I am digital.

How many photographers do you work with?
When necessary, an additional shooter is available.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
My life revolves around my client's weddings, you should see my fiancee trying to get me to even go out to dinner on the eve of a wedding. I have not been late to any of the 200+ weddings I have been responsible for.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
I will sometimes book multiple weddings in a weekend, but never more than 1 a day (who does that? they crazy) :)

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
yes.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
The week after your wedding, the images will be processed and posted both in an online slideshow and in the full service online ordering and proofing system. Many of my clients get to see their images while still on their honeymoon.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
The digital high resolution negatives are available in a 2-disc DVD set.

What kind of albums do you offer?
Traditional and custom hand-designed magazine-style albums.

Tips and Advice
My advice to brides and grooms is to weigh the artistic, service, and social skills of their photographer equally.  Capturing a wedding is a form of performance art that requires deep photography experience, amazing amounts patience and care, and the ability to balance blending in and working a crowd.  It is an honor to participate and document such an important event as your wedding day, that is the attitude I try to share and I hope you find in all of your vendors.  Best of luck!  James.
