About
Looking for candid, natural photos of your wedding or graduation or portraits of your family members that show them as they really are? Then contact Craig Paulson, an Australian-born photographer who’s been living and working in New York for 10 years. His “fly on the wall” approach means minimal direction and intrusion, resulting in beautiful photos capturing unique moments that you will treasure for a lifetime. Spontaneous and lifelike, these pictures make ideal gifts for birthdays, Mothers’ or Fathers’ Days or other special occasions. Starting with wedding photography, Craig soon realized that his relaxed approach consistently yielded magnificent photos of children and began offering packages for candid family photo shoots. As he uses a long lens, his pictures are very different from the stiff, awkward portraits that often result from “posed” photos shot against a grey background. Craig’s images capture a person’s true essence – the way he or she looks when no one is around. Craig can be hired for a special event – a child's or grandparent’s birthday party, an anniversary, christening or family reunion. But there is no need to plan the shoot around such a gathering. He will work with you to choose locations for unobtrusive shooting where people are most comfortable, whether at home, in the park, or at a playground or zoo. And his reportage-style coverage can embrace backstage preparations as well as the main event. At a wedding, for example, he might capture Dad in the garden practicing his speech, Mom ironing the best man’s tie, or the bride in her veil and jeans stealing a sip of champagne to calm her nerves. Rather than trying to create a picture, he follows the action – a stolen kiss, a joke among friends, a reaction to a speech, glance, or touch. The result is an artistic, thoughtful and dynamic documentation of the event as it unfolds.
