Who's paying for their own wedding?

ETA: Because I forgot that people on the internet take offense to things that are not about them. This site is a guilty pleasure of mine. Yesterday I had the most stressful wedding planning day to date. I get online and the first post I read is titled "who pays". While reading through the comments, I come across a girl who is upset that her father refuses to pay even though he is financially able. She sounded like an entitled brat. She then commented that she really doubted the majority of us were paying on our own. This "rubbed me the wrong way" I started this post to prove a point that the majority of us are in fact paying on our own. I am in no way trying to shame those fortunate enough to have family help. Nor do I think I am better because I don't.

FH and I are, however, my mom paid for my dress. It was her and my dad's gift to me. And she made a comment about wanting to contribute some more. Either way we aren't asking for their help, and aren't expecting it either.

So far, my mom and stepdad have paid for my dress, videographer, photo booth, rehearsal dinner and they've pitched in for the venue/food costs. FH and I are paying the rest. So yeah, my mom and stepdad are awesome and we're beyond grateful that they offered, but I never would've asked. My dad and FH's parents haven't offered to pay anything. They're awesome, too. Love them all.

Also agree that this post comes off as a bit humble braggy for the people who are paying everything themselves. You guys, we're all adults and who pays for what aspect of the wedding won't change that. What WILL change that is having the nerve to tell your parents that it's their responsibility to pay for your wedding. 'Cause, ya know, entitlement is gross.

We are! 100% so far! And no debt!

Well, except for my small inheritance. My grandfather passed and apparently all grandkids are getting $500 per his will. This will be my dress budget. I like to think he would get a kick out of that. Smiley smile

We are!! We've had a friend offer to pay for our open bar, and my mom offered to pay for catering, which is AWESOME.... But we wouldn't accept anything that we couldn't pay for ourselves should for some reason they need to back out of the offer.

We're budgeting to pay for it ourselves. Hints have been dropped by his family that some assistance may be coming, but we're not planning or counting on it, and if it does it will be a huge blessing, but if not we'll have it in hand almost without debt. (I had an emergency surgery pop up for my dog the week I made a major wedding purchase....had cash for one or the other but did put a few hundred on the credit card...should be paid off by the end of Sept and back on track!)

Mom bought my dress and his parents are paying for rehearsal dinner since its traditionally the grooms family who pays for that and FH is an only child so they really wanted to pay for it. Other then that everything else were paying for

My fiancé and I actually talked about this before he proposed and we had the same thought on it. if you are not living at home you pay for your wedding. now with that said our parents did want to help because we are both the first to get married from both sides. with so many traditions being thrown out the window the who pays for what of a wedding should be too.

We're mostly paying for it ourselves. My mom bought my dress and is planning on buying my accessories, and FILs are paying for the rehearsal dinner because they're traditional. We're paying for everything else.

We are, and we are doing it without credit cards while both paying off student loans. Its all about budget and planning (And waiting a really long time). To be fair, we are waiting a full year for our honeymoon because celebrating with our families was more important than a vacation and we can't afford both.
