Who has booked their wedding vendors without meeting them in person?

Laura M, on January 29, 2013 at 6:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

If a vendor has really good reviews, and seems very nice and personable in their emails would you book them despite not meeting them in person? Just curious because I hear of so many brides meeting with several different vendors before choosing and I feel like maybe I'm not being picky enough?! My photographer was surprised at the lack of questions I had for him when we Skyped but I've done my research and found the answers i needed online..guess i'm not the typical bride lol.

I have =) every last one of them! We are getting married in Hawaii and couldn't afford 2 trips. We have talked on the phone and through emails. I did tons of research too and chose after all of that!

Yes, With all the technology it is much easier to do this. Basically most who do DW have no choice but to do this.

I am planning a destination in Florida so I had to go by reviews. I already booked them, some I skyped with and others I just talked to them on the phone. I just clicked with some, got their reviews and went with it. I am meeting them in March when we go to Florida for the food tasting! I feel like if you are too picky then you will drive yourself nuts!

Me too...DW with no time/budget to make a complete scouting trip or any scouting trip for that matter (it was planned then I couldn't get the time, rescheduled then I didn't have the money lol). My vendors all came through in a big way!!! Besides reading reviews on wedding sites, I tried to search for any other yelp, yahoo, etc reviews as well.

Wow I'm stupid, I didn't even think about the destination wedding brides, duh! The vendors I like are scattered everywhere in the same province and it just seems inconvenient to drive 4-5 hours when I could be using that gas money for my wedding lol.

I did too! We live 4 hours away so we have made some trips, but couldn't meet everyone. Phone calls, reviews, and vendor tips helped!

I've booked TONS of vendors without meeting them.. our wedding is 3 hours from where we live.. But usually there are plenty of emails and/or phone calls before I sent deposits! That's sort of the point of reviews, so I wouldn't worry too much! Smiley smile

We met with some vendors and not others.

In person: venue, celebrant, photographer, videographer, cupcake baker & jeweller.

Didn't meet: hairstylist, MUA, DJ & florist

We also picked our caterer without trying them first, as they are the exclusive caterers for the venue we picked. They have a restaurant on the waterfront in a very exclusive area, so we were sure they would be good. We went to the restaurant last year for our anniversary to check it out though and it was fantastic!

I think for some vendors you don't have to meet face to face, i.e. a photographer and a DJ. With technology the way it is, you can see a photographer's portfolio on line, read reviews and discuss things at length. The same goes with a DJ.

I wouldn't trust food, beverage, cake, make-up artist, hair stylist and flowers. I would have to meet with them to taste or see if we have a rapport.

Of course it is easy for me to say that because our wedding was in Vermont, not in Hawaii, across the country or on an island. Tastings and meeting vendors was a good excuse to go to Vermont for the weekend. Both hubbie and I are seriously picky about food. There was no way in God's green earth we were booking a caterer and a baker without tasting.

I can say in retrospect, I wish I had hired a planner to help find the vendors. What a serious PITA that was!

Before we postponed the wedding and were planning to have it in San Diego we did. I would rather have been in person but it went smooth

I have not booked any vendors prior to a having a face to face. But I did extensive research, selected one vendor to meet and booked them after that first meeting, with the exception of a florist....did not like the first one so I researced a another and just received their proposal.

Wedding site is over 5 hours away so booked all vendors without a face-to-face meeting. Relied on other reviews, recommendations from friends in the area and responses to our phone calls and emails.

Most of my clients I don't meet until the day of, as I do mostly destination weddings. And, they prefer to converse by email.

Sometimes, I don't even meet them the day of, if they have a planner or a friend taking care of things!

I haven't met most of my vendors, we're planning a Chicago wedding from Vegas! I'm only met our priest and the wonderful people that run the banquet hall for our reception. Everyone else we'll be meeting next month when we're in town!
