Where did you have/ where are you having your engagement party?

Kathryn, on October 23, 2011 at 8:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Just wondering! Looking around right now and wondering what others have done. I need some inspiration!

I'm planning mine at the moment. We're having it at a nice wine bar/bistro thingo. We're having canapes, drinks, and a dessert buffet. I ordered my invites off etsy (design) and vistaprint (to print). I'm hiring an amateur photographer to get some nice shots.

My FMIL threw a fantastic engagement party for us at a nice Cuban restaurant in Miami called Las Culebrinas. FH is Cuban, and I'm not. I guess that my FMIL wanted to expose my family more to the Cuban culture before we got married (that or she just knew that it was a good restaurant). We got the entire second floor of the restaurant. The second floor has its own bar. It overlooks the first floor so when they have musicians up there, customers on the first floor can hear them. The restaurant normally has live music on Fridays and Saturdays, so we lucked out with what seemed like private performances by a singer and guitarist. There was also a dance floor up there. It was SO much fun!

We actually didn't have one. I'm not sure why, it just never came up.

My cousin just got engaged, though, and they're having theirs at the condo club where they live.

If we were going to have one, I would say the Spanish restaurant nearby. I love sangria!

We didn't have one either. FH's brother had a house party to celebrate and announce the wedding party.

We are having an engagement dinner instead of an engagement party. We are going to have it at the same restaurant we ate at the night he proposed. Its a beautiful place right along the riverfront and the food and drinks are amazing. I think we are keeping it to family only, just so they get a chance to meet one time before the wedding.

We didn't have one. FH and I had been together so long and all our families and friends already knew each other, so we didn't feel the added cost was necessary.

We had ours at one of my bridesmaids house this summer.

she has a huge backyard, so we had a BBQ.

It was great...very laid back, the way we are as a couple.

it was just our bridal party, and our families...was the 1st time they were meeting

I THINK we know what we're doing... there's this little French bistro we've been to once or twice and it has a nice interior with brick walls and a loungey feel. They do wine tastings so we're thinking ordering a few bottles and inviting bridesmaids+groomsmen and their partners to come for a wine tasting! We'll probably just go out for a nice dinner with our immediate families to celebrate with them.

We had a casual outdoor BBQ in my parents backyard. My fiancé's family was unable to make it though, so we're thinking of doing another one sometime before the wedding, but we don't know what we're going to do.

Ours was pretty small, but it was at a great italian restaurant. FSIL made small flower centerpieces and we ordered a few bottles of wine, just like you're planning. It made it really feel like more of a party than just a regular dinner.

We had about 80 people at my parent's house. They have a great party house and mom hired a chef to come and run a hibachi style grill all night. We went through probably $500 worth of liquor too. It was a good night (the parts I remember at least)

We had it at a nice little resturant about mid way between us and most of our family. We did a brunch, it was really nice. We got lots of compiments from our families. It was mostly family there, & a few close friends.
