When you RENT linens...

brandi, on September 20, 2011 at 10:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

When you rent tablecloths and such do you get any money back after they are returned?? It just seems so rediculous that you can BUY them for the same price that it costs to rent them for 5 hours. And when you are planning for 150 guest, those things get very costly!! I want to have nice looking table setups but its so expensive. Just for 18 plain tablecloths it will cost me almost $200!!! I cant believe how expensive that stuff is...

Maybe if you bought them, you could resell them afterwards

Guess it depends on the rental company. We rented table runners and napkins and didn't get any money back.

Nope, not from the company we are renting from. We were going to rent from another company and they have a damage waiver you don't get back either, even if you return everything just fine.

Ok... They lady didnt say anything about getting any money back when I was talking to her about renting them. I didnt think to ask either. I definatly will be buying them if I do get them so I can sell them after and at least get some money back for them. I dont know if ill be able to afford pretty tables though :-/

I guess you would get any security deposit back, but I think that applies more to broken dishes / glassware. I'm plannign on buying mine, the cost of rentals are ridiculous.

We are making our runners, and then I think a family member is going to line them for us so we can use them as curtains in our new home if they don't get too damaged at the wedding.

I was under the assumption that you wouldn't be getting any money back unless you gave any type of security deposit (like Sammi B stated).

We were going to buy our linen then realized how much of a pain it would be to clean and get all the wrinkles out so we are going to rent.

@Stephanie Z, don't get the mail order linens/ chair covers. Get from a company that you can pick up locally or they deliver to the venue. Went to FH uncle's wedding last year and they rented chair covers through the mail and had to iron 100 chair covers the day before their wedding, because the company just shoved them all in a box for mailing. They got money back for the wrinkles, but the mistake was still there.

I found floor length(90X130) linens on Ebay from a company called choiceweddingsupply.com. The total was $70. I will resell.

However, Sami B makes an excellent point. We washed and ironed all of the new linens and are still bringing a steamer with us to Vermont.

I bought my own in black organza for 3.20 a piece. I bought them in a color that if someone drops something won't show...I lucked out though because I already sold them to a friend who's getting married after our date for 2$ a piece. I am getting some of my money back which is nice.
