When did you book your photographer?

*~WiiFeY~*, on September 9, 2010 at 10:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 39

Here I am, 9 months to go, and I just contacted my photographer. I'm waiting for her to email me back to let me know if my date is open. I'm getting scared because quite a few people warned me that it might not be since I waited so long.

Ehh :/ What do you think?? When is it necessary to book the photog, anyway?

Depends on your date..if its' not a holiday weekend/saturdady/sunday etc. you don't have much to worry abt. I am getting married in November on a Friday..so I knew most of the photographers weren't going to be crazy busy..so I booked him 3 months prior to the wedding..but sooner the better, just to be on the safe side..and also depends on how popular your photographer is Smiley smile Good luck!

I do have to say when I booked my photographer she had already booked weddings/sessions after my wedding and I was there 13 months before the wedding! So it just depends. I hope your photog isn't busy for your big day though Smiley smile

We booked our original photographer January 2010 for our September 2011 wedding. They then turned around and screwed us in June or July 2010. We are currently talking with another contract with another photographer and we are one year and one day away from the big day.

I booked mine 8 months in advanced but i was freaking out about it! A photographer was the first thing I wanted to book because I was afraid if I waited too long, all the good ones that weren't crazily priced would be gone!!! I Talked to her in November and then was a slacker and the first Photographer I wanted got booked, then in January I booked my Photographer, Rene Tate. Thank God she still had my date open! She was actually my top choice but a little over what I wanted to spend... but she was worth the money!!!!

I usually book my appointments about 9 months in advance...but I am just starting out with on location photography- I did studio photography for 4 years. So, it does kind of depend on how well known you're photographer is.

I booked mine back in May or early June, but I am 99.9% sure it was last May because I believe it was right after I graduated. Or maybe it was in April... either way, it was sometime around then and about a year away from the wedding. I wasn't worried about her booking up quickly, but wanted to get things off my list Smiley tongue I think 9-months is perfect and you still have plenty of time!!

I would certainly say that 40-50% of the requests coming in are for 2012 at this point. So if you're mid 2011, you should be getting on the ball!

We booked ours a year and a half hour (May 2010 for September 2011 wedding). He was already booking fall 2011 weddings and we wanted to be one of those

We booked ours about 14 months in advance. Around here the best photographers book up pretty fast, so we didn't want to take any chances. He already had two weekends filled for Sept '11.

I'm also a June 2011 bride (the 26th, a Sunday). For me, high quality photography is a priority. We booked 11 months in advance and are elated that we got our first choice photographer.

June weddings are high demand- book ASAP. I wouldn't rely on e-mail and would call her.

Wow Matt 2012 weddings already!? My wedding is in five months and I just booked a photographer, but she is booked so fast that I am so glad my wedding is off season. June weddings, people normally book a year before, please book asap and good luck Smiley smile

No one has actually booked for 2012 yet, but it is certainly around 40-50% of the requests coming in. So the weddings for that year are certainly out there looking, most likely price shopping.

As always is the case, you can save money usually the sooner you book. Beating the annual price increases by executing a contract with your photographer of choice!

By booking our photographer we set our date. We booked a photographer before the venue because I knew I wanted a friend of mine that started up her own photography business to do my wedding. We hadn't picked a date but were thinking of October since it would give us a good amount of time to plan and wouldn't be as expensive for out of town guests to fly as in summer. So I asked what her availability was and she said October was already starting to book so I randomly picked Oct. 16th. We later changed it to Oct. 23rd because FH's dad said that would be better for him. We booked our venue after we booked her. This was back in Feb/March of this year so 7-8 months in advance? ;-)

Once you set up your date, run and book your favorite photographer!
