Here I am, 9 months to go, and I just contacted my photographer. I'm waiting for her to email me back to let me know if my date is open. I'm getting scared because quite a few people warned me that it might not be since I waited so long. Ehh :/ What do you think?? When is it necessary to book the...

Ehh :/ What do you think?? When is it necessary to book the photog, anyway?

18 months to as little as 6 months in advance. But it depends on your date as well. Some go a lot faster than others!

    Good luck!

I booked mine about a year in advance. I knew that June would be a busy month. Good Luck!

I found my photographer about 20 months out because I was moving out of town and wanted to research everything and have it ready to go... When we were ready to make a deposit (13 months out), my photographer was already booked! Smiley sad Luckily for me, the photography was able to refer me to a colleague who was able to fit in a consultation early Saturday morning! I would say if you find a photographer you like and want... BOOK IT!! Don't risk losing your date (especially if you have your hall booked)!!

I did my contract 4 months before my wedding and my wedding is in October of this year. If anything try to call and shoot another email and have another photographer in mind taht you want to do just in case this don't work out. I had to learn to do that with the DJ I was having problems with a DJ. Good luck to you.

I booked mine 10 months in advance. But it all depends on how "in demand" they are. I hired on a fairly new team of "weekend photographers" who were advertising a special. Some photographers will also give great prices for last-minute bookers who fill in gaps in their schedule.

    13 months in advance =/

I started school 4 weeks ago and I'm "not allowed" to plan until I graduate in December, so I won't neglect my school work. I do sneak on to WW sometimes though *hehehe*

My photographer was the first thing I booked (almost 15 months in advance). My situation is a bit unique though, because my cousin just happens to be a professional photographer who has tons of experience doing weddings, so as soon as we had a date, we let her know and it was booked.

I booked my photographer last week. My wedding is next month. It's a great photographer (they were my very first choice), and they even negotiated the price with me.

My wedding is in December and I am just now in the process of booking mine. I'm stuck between three photographers. None of the 12 photographers that I called were booked. December just doesn't seem too popular!

This is very interesting since my wedding wire checklist has not put "book photographer" on my list until this month, 10 months in advance

Here I am 25 days till my wedding and I have not booked my photographer. What I am finding is that, if you are not choosy, photographers are willing to wheel and deal right now. Okay, so I am a little picky, but there are a lot of talented photographers that are willing to cut their prices, do smaller packages, throw in free engagment sessions, etc. I actually have a fairly popular date 10-10-10, though it is a Sunday. The really fancy, popular, expensive photographers are booked, but the less well known, just starting out, photographers are still available. I did research a year beforehand and had a backup plan in case I didn't find someone I liked at the right price now.

Wow- I thought 10/10/10 would be a difficult day to find a last minute vendor for anything! Good luck Smiley smile

If you love the photographer's work, book them as soon as you are sure you want to use them. Finding someone you love is important and you wouldn't want to lose out on having them shoot your wedding. And yes photographer's can easily get booked out a year or two before the wedding date. Especially if they are good.

Book your photographer as soon as you know they are the one you want. We hestated a little at first because we still hadn't completely decided on a budget. A week later she called us to let us know that more inquiries had come in and she would be able to hold the date without a deposit. We knew Carla was the photographer we wanted because her style and personality meshed with ours. My sister just got engaged and contacted the photographer we used (Stehman Photography) for their October 2011 wedding and the date has already been booked. My sister is on a waiting list in case the date reopens, but Carla has also referred her to photographers in the area that she is familiar with.

It depend on date of your wedding. You should book 9 to 10 days before wedding. You should fix the price also at that time. You should give this responsibility to a responsible person.
