Not completely necessary unless you are having a nontraditional ceremony or anything that may be out of the ordinary. Another reason is to introduce the wedding party and thank people.

    Thanks for the comment @Rachel....

I'm doing program fans....they'll serve a dual purpose

They're not absolutely necesssary...do them if you want.

Not nessisary. But I think the dual purpose of the fan programs are great. I am also looking a a line-up style for ours to incorporate our reception theme more into the ceremony itself. Mine wpuld include music selections since most are non-traditional for weddings. Most I found are contemporary christain worship songs.

Unnecessary unless the wedding is nontraditional in a lot of ways.

Totally unnecessary. We weren't going to do them, but FHs Aunt found some really cute ones that match our theme for a great price, and really wants us to have them, so we're accepting her gift.

I'm doing them because we're having a Catholic mass and it's going to be helpful for the guests.

Not necessary but they are a nice thing to have for your guests. A lot of people like to read them and they can be really inexpensive and simple.

I wasn't going to do them, but we incorporated a salt covenant into our ceremony and that is something not a lot of people are familar with. I got program paper for cheap at Party City, and was able to print them out fairly quickly a couple of days before the wedding. It was also a way to introduce the wedding party to the guests. But, had we not had the salt covenant, I probably would not have had programs.

We don't want to spend the money on 125 individual programs, so i kind of want to price out doing one or two big ones at kinkos that will be place on easels or something. if it's too much we're not doing it, but i'd like for everyone to have a feel for how the night is going to go so they can plan to stay the whole time or at least wait until the cake is cut before they go.

I'm doing them bc FS and I haven't been together long, so no one really knows each other. For us, they're a good way to explain the "who's who". We're also giving info about the venue since it's a 200-yr-old building.

IMO they are a waist of time and money...people usually leave them left behind..

I'd print 1 program per couple of guests. And don't print until the last possible moment in case someone has to drop out of the wedding party late.

Thought of another reason to have them. If your inviting children you could add word finds and pictures you can color to them to keep they from getting bored.

I don't think they're absolutely necessary, but I'm doing them for two reasons: 1) I want to give props to my friends and family for being in the wedding and helping out. And 2) the way I designed them, they'll hang on the chairs, thus saving me money on decor. The ribbon at the top is tied into a little triangle and will slip right over the top of the chair where the leg sticks out.

I'm skipping them too. For some reason on my FS side of the family only about 1/4 of them show up to the ceremony. So it'll be a waste for us to even have them. Although I love the idea of them and listing your wedding party and all.

We did them but we didn't spend a fortune on them. Ours was basically one page of paper folded the long way. It was nice to be able to recognize our friends for being a part of our day and it also let our guests know who was who. I suggest doing them but don't go crazy you can do them pretty cheap on your own.
