What do you guys think? I want to add a one shoulder to my dress. . .

KenWay, on December 31, 2010 at 4:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

I had my bridesmaid take a pic of me in my dress and I drew in a one shoulder strap in paint (lol) because I really really want the seamstress to add one on and wanted to see what it would look like. I think it would look cute! What do you guys think? cute right? It could work?!...

Looks like you could pull off any dress! I think it could definitely work and be pretty hot too.

I personally like the dress as is, but you have to be happy in it!

I wear one shoulder dresses all the time it is sort of my "thing" amoungst our friends, that's why I am adding the strap. I love love love my dress but I would look back later and wish I would have added the one shoulder, I didn't think about it until after I already bought the gown, so its going to be a detachable strap but I am adding one for sure, I just wanted to know if it would look okay with the strap. I don't want to buy another dress just to get the strap I want lol :-) @ binx and Anthony & Christina J, sorry guys.

@ Fun bride T., Thank you so much, I a want to be a little different but at the same time myself lol, the one shoulder is sooooo me.

Honestly, I think it looks weird. The bodice of the dress seems very clearly meant to be strapless to me.

That said, if YOU really want it, it shouldn't matter what I think.

I very much agree with Cabell. I have never seen a dress with that neckline have one strap.

Ok well I thanks guys for the input Smiley smile but I am still adding the strap though, I need to learn to not ask questions I am exited about if I really don't want to hear no's lol but its all good. I have never seen a sweetheart with a one shoulder either and this is clearly a strapless dress as I bought it that way BUT that's why I think it would be different. I love it. I'm going to roll with it because it will just be a little hook inside the bodice sort of like a cap sleeve and if I hate it I can always take it off :-) win win situation.

I agree with Cabell. I think one shoulder stuff looks funny with a sweetheart neckline.

I'd have it be a snap on the inside so you can remove it if it looks bad.

But as much as I love the one shoulder look, it doesn't go with that dress.

I agree with Cabell too. That neckline does not lend itself to a shoulder strap.

Pretty dress. i thin you should try and have the one shoulder comming from the other side. but it looks great.

Since you're going to roll w/ the one strap ... What does the back of the dress look like? are you going to try having it go strictly over one shoulder or will you bring it over one shoulder and then across the back? I think that could add some serious interest (if would work w/ the detailing on the back)

I think 2 straps or no straps. One looks off a bit. But whatever makes you happy is what matters.

I think one is okay, but I would put it off the shoulder a bit. It just doesn't fit cuz you are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. So be round and have some fun. I would take it to a seamstress and match the material and style as best you can. I saw a gorgeous dress that had the strap off the shoulder on one only, and it was unique and sassy!!

@ Jen C., this is the type of strap I am adding, my seamstress is awesome I have used her for custom things in the past and she is just going to add a hook in the inside sort of like a cap sleeve so it will be detachable. This is the strap look I am going for in an example picture below. For all the ladies that don't think this "neckline" can go with a one shoulder I disagree, I am not a fashion expert but I like unusual stuff and things that you don't always see Smiley smile but thanks for your opinion, I think she will make it look amazing.

@ Christine S., I want her to cross it in the back just like that because the back of my dress is shaped the same as that example

    @ Mom N, thanks.

I will totally take pics when she finishes it and I have a pulled together product and show all you WW ladies the results Smiley smile But I showed her those example pics and she told me that was no problem to add a detachable strap like that one.

Make sure that there is extra material within the dress so that the strap sits right where it is attached so it does not pull. An extra 2/3 inches or something would help the lay. I love how the the strap goes from narrow to wide then back to narrow. Also hooks not snaps. I am sure she knows all this but.....just some suggestions.
