What are you putting IN your favor boxes??

Cindy, on April 21, 2011 at 1:38 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 27

I couldn't pass up favor boxes at Ollie's- 50 boxes for $3! Now, I don't know what I want to put in them. It's an outdoor wedding in July. I was thinking sponge candy or molded chocolate but there's the heat issue and having to do them at the last minute. Maybe some kind of wrapped candy? I don't know!

Share your ideas with me!

Maybe yours and your fella's favorite candy, current or from childhood. Or a locally produced candy. I am putting saltwater taffy and pecan pralines in our welcome packages as they are made locally where we live and the area is famous for them.

We aren't using favor boxes. But we are doing honey sticks since honey is incorporated into our ceremony. They won't melt or go bad either! I didn't even think about the heat issue with a July wedding for the favors so I'm glad we picked the honey sticks! You can get them pretty cheap too. Around 12-15 bucks for 100. Since your wedding is outdoors and July is usually hot, I'd do something like hard wrapped candy. Not chocolate! Because even in a wrapper in she shade and in a box, it will melt! Or maybe M&M's? They don't really melt unless you hold the candy in your hand. Even then, it just makes you a little colorful!

Is your reception indoors or outdoors? My reception is inside and we are doing M&Ms.

@Tara, we debated on doing personalized ones, but since we have a LOT of people, we figured it would be cheaper just to go to one of the candy stores and get them in our colors....

We're putting Bajadera in our favor boxes. They're Croatian hazlenut chocolates individually wrapped in pretty gold foil.

I'd definitely use @Rebecca's idea of something locally made or something that's unique to your or FH's heritage like we are.

What about a little bag of carmel corn? You can pack it days in advance and you won't have to worry about melting~ And fitting for outdoors in July.

Consider five foil wrapped Jordan almonds. See http://www.jordanalmonds.com/Pages/Tradition%20&%20History.htm for the significance. I might have to go with this in addition to the matches, mints, gold pens, AND reusable grocery totes. The fact that the almonds represent health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity, it goes with our theme of ingredients of a successful marriage.

I have to say you ladies are feeding my favor addiction!

We are going to do gerber daisy seeds in a little tin pail for them to plant and put a little saying on there like "Love grows where your heart is planted." or " Please plant these seeds and watch them bloom, just like the love of the bride and groom". We are doing a rustic theme wedding.

I originally wanted those custom M&Ms but we ended up going with Hershey's Kisses because they were much cheaper. We had 2 inch square boxes and they held 10 kisses (we did 5 silver foil regular kisses and 5 purple foil wrapped dark chocolate since purple white and silver were our colors).

We decided to do personalized coozies and shot glasses that say 'Stolen from Zack and Marisa's Wedding'. We decided on a small wedding/reception and big honeymoon.

We are doing M&M's. It's our thing. Whenever there is something to celebrate we get a little bag of M&M's and share them together. They will be in hot pink, hunter green and platinum.

As an aside, personally I am a baker, as all of my friends and family know. Our theme for our reception is Limes and Margaritaville (FH is a big Buffett fan, and I like him too, we wanted something fun!).

Our favors will be individual loaves of key lime bread I can make them over a month ahead of time, wrap tightly in saran wrap and foil, and store in the freezer until the day before the wedding. I will put them in cute little bags with a recipe card attached.

BUT in addition to that we will have a do-it-yourself s'mores table at the reception, fruity drink flavored Jelly Belly jelly beans to munch on, the placecards will be personalized shells they can take with them, to go boxes for the leftover cake, and mason jars for drinking to go with our southern location/theme.
