What are you doing amid Covid-19?

WESLEY, on May 23, 2020 at 12:26 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

These are some decisions that are difficult to make alone, so some advice will tremendously help my indecisiveness!

I love my family and fiance, but when it came to planning our wedding, my family basically said: "anything you want we will do." Therefore, I basically planned everything myself. I loved the planning process, but I do not know if I can do it all over again!!

We already made the difficult decision to postpone our wedding to 7/24/21. I am personally not happy with our decision, but I want to keep my loved ones safe. I really cannot believe I am going to have to wait over a year to get married! My fiance and I have been planning for our first child by next summer, so I am worried that I will look differently in my dress after having a child.

I am sure everything will work out, but I am so overwhelmed with emotions.

What is everyone doing? Are you planning on getting legally married this year, and celebrating with your guests next year? Are you waiting to get married and having kids now?

Hi there. I’m sorry you had to postpone. The stress from all the COVID restrictions is bad enough.
We are in coastal Virginia and scheduled to get married November 21st. We are proceeding as normal for the moment and will make the decision about whether to stick with it or postpone in September.
We are also planning on trying to start our family after our wedding so I definitely understand your stress. I’ve already talked with my OBGYN about when to stop taking my bc and when to start prenatals. I just hope that the virus will dissipate before we get pregnant/have the baby because I don’t think I’d be able to handle that stress.

I am December 6th, planning as normal but still worried about it mostly because my extended family is in another country and the borders are currently closed indefinitely. We will get married legally no matter what.

Part of my family lives in coastal Virginia! I heard they are taking this pandemic seriously, which I think it a great thing. I know we are living in crazy times! Planning is tough during this time, but I am sure everything will work out. Best of luck to you and your family!

Man that must be so nerve-racking! I am hoping that things will be back to some type of normalcy by the holidays for you to have your family attend your wedding! Having a fall or early winter wedding is better. I wished I could, but being a teacher, it is nearly impossible to have a wedding scheduled during the school year.

    Hi WESLEY,

I'm sorry that you've had to postpone your wedding and that you're not feeling great about the decision. If it helps, I'm not sure you had much of a decision to make in the first place. After all, so much of what's happening right now (and what happens next) is outside of our control.

If you're contemplating getting married legally before your actual wedding/reception, you're not alone! Some couples are adjusting their plans to get married (one way or another) on their original dates. Options include ceremony now/reception later, elopement now/full wedding later, micro weddings and more. Check out these posts if you're interested:
