Hello all!

I’m not sure if this is the proper group for this discussion. However, I wanted to know if you ladies and/or gents wear your engagement rings all the time.

Recently, I was made to feel bad, perhaps unintentionally but perhaps not, about not wearing my engagement ring 24/7. My FHs family and I were talking about planning and my rings and such. When a member of his family said that an engagement ring should be worn at ALL times and never taken off, with quite the attitude. As if she judging me for taking it off. Mind you, I take it off right when I get home, and put it right back on when I go out anywhere. I don’t want to get it dirty, damaged, or lose its shine while I am doing my everyday tasks at home.

So tell me, what do you do? Do you wear it at all times, without taking it off? Or do you take it off for certain tasks?

Personally I wear mine all the time but that’s just my preference. I’m really bad about misplacing things and don’t want to risk it! I don’t think it’s a big deal.

I keep mine on most of the time! But I have a "fake" ring that I put on as a replacement when doing farm work and sports. I have a Claire's ring as my replacement... Smiley smile

24/7 sounds like it would be more difficult nowadays than it might have been in years past. I don't wear mine when gardening, doing dishes or showering. I'm also not permitted to wear it at work for safety reasons. As with most people on here, I am perfectly happy to have it on when I'm out and about. There is no wrong answer here.

I work with kids and I always carry heavy stuff. I also have a tendency of hitting my hands on walls so I bought a cheap ring on Groupon that I wear when I work, workout or travel. I’m one of those who feels naked without my ring so like this I’m always wearing one.

I wear it all the time. Only take it off for mixing up meat for hamburgers, etc. I sleep and shower with it. My ring makes me happy. ☺️

Take mine off when handling raw meat, putting on lotion, and swimming in the ocean. Otherwise it’s ok and I’m staring at it 🤣🤣

I never take my ring off. I have a skinny finger with thick knuckles so I put this spiral rubber underneath on my ring and my ring cannot come off. Even without that I still have trouble taking it off. I wear it all day everyday, if I do ever take it off, I did for a soccer game and felt weird like I was missing something. I like to keep it on as it is apart of me forever now.

When I first got my ring, I took it off all the time. Especially at night, when I would go to sleep or when I would take a shower. I was afraid to lose it. After a comment was made my FH, I now try to wear it all the time. I do find myself taking it off in my sleep for some reason.

I'm a special Ed teacher and I definitely swap my ring for a silicone band when I'm with the littles. Too much tactile temptation. I also wear a silicone band for working out. Showers, sleep, and deep cleaning it goes back in the box. So it's on maybe 60% of my non work time

I wear my engagement ring all the time. Some were raised that's the proper thing to do and others weren't. Just because u don't wear it all the time doesn't mean u don't love him/her and want to marry him/her. Some people can't wear it cuz of work

I take it off for showers, yard work, or any cooking that involves me really getting my hands in the food beyond just my fingertips (like making meatballs or kneading dough). I used to take it off for cleaning, but now I keep it on and use rubber gloves to keep my hands from getting dry from cleaning products and water.

    Hi Natalia,

I have also experienced the very judgement of "you should always wear your ring". Just recently, I spent the week helping my FSIL at fair with her 10 4H animals. I helped muck out stalls, feed, ride, and bathe the animals. I decided to leave my ring in a safe place most of the week (unless we were doing something fun and clean that night) so it wouldn't get damaged. As I was walking around the fair, I stopped at a wedding booth and the lady working was doing a free raffle for brides. So, I stopped in to sign up and she interrogated me on if I was even engaged or not! I really felt offended.

So, to answer your question, don't let anyone make you feel like you're a bad person for not wearing a ring. Did they pay for it? Are they going to replace it if you lose it? I don't think so! I always take mine off if I'm working outside, with animals, dishes, or really anything that might bring it harm.
